What do full time TV people do??
What do f/t TV people do in the summertime?? Do you meet up with your friends at the clubhouse?? Go shopping?? Movies??
Thanks, LynnDeb:wave: |
All Of The Above...And More
While I will never complain about the increased traffic and crowds during "the season"...in the summer walking into any restaurant any time, or not experiencing heavy traffic and waits at the circles, playing golf on short notice and on just about any day (with much cheaper greens fees on the championship courses), enjoying many physical activities like yoga without having to arrive 45 minutes early, and on and on. Those are all things to do here in the summer.
There's very little not to like about The Villages in the summertime. The heat and humidity you say? I can play golf or pickle ball or take a long walk in the morning in the summer here, or go swimming anytime during the day. Could I do that in Chicago in January? |
I agree! Love the summer in TV. Can do everything you do in the winter without the long waits. I do like the winters too because friends return for a few months. TV is wonderful anytime if year!

Summertime in TV

When we first moved here I thought I was going to die in the heat, now I hate to go back to the cold or wet weather. |

I do the same as I do in winter except maybe earlier in the day before it gets too hot. And I also enjoy the lighter traffic and shorter waits at restaurants. In the fall, I love the anticipation of my neighbors and friends returning.

I do same thing in the summer I do in the winter. Only difference is more people to do it with in the winter plus I go back to the family for the holiday's and during the summer the family comes to us

You may already know this, but just in case.... we have LOTS and LOTS of groups, clubs, classes, lectures, special events and volunteer opportunities an addition to the golf and numerous other sports activities that you can participate in as a resident! Day OR evening! Every day! Many are free, or have a minimal cost to attend. Attendance is at your discretion, so often you can participate regularly, or just on occasion. We really don't have a 'clubhouse' per say. We have numerous recreational centers with different things going on continually, both passive and active, and any resident can attend anything going on anywhere. Our newspaper, The Daily Sun, has a Thursday pull-out which updates all our Recreational News. New, interesting things start up all the time, from art to card games to dance, kazoo bands to clown school, civil discourse to gourmet cooking..... and a bazillion more. We have support groups for lots of special needs and as I said, loads of volunteer opportunities. Transportation is necessary (car or golf car) to get to everything however, but the ride to and fro is entertainment in itself, for our 'campus' is beautiful. This place is never boring. Or lonely. And here's a  right back at ya! |
There is nothing to do here in the summer! Way to hot!! Don't even think of moving down here full time!!! Leave it to us that have to suffer all summer ;-)
|
set aside your notion of "it's too hot" in FL in the summer time. It is no hotter than most places between here and the great lakes in the summer time.
Also retirement is not seasonal....here anyway. The real beauty is there is so much to do and one can do it year around. January is the coldest month and that is when we usually "head South" by taking cruises to the tropics. You learn to really like the sun in the summertime. Some may have to go it at a different pace, but life in TV is not seasonal. btk |
Same thing you do wherever you are! Live "LIFE" and try to make the most of it here!!

So true

What I think you will find is that our heat lasts for a long time before you get a break. Whereas in the north the heat gets cleared out by a thunder storm and you get a cooler period for a time. |
We do the same things all summer maybe a little more swimming. Most of the inside activities are a real pleasure in the sumer, way less people. That's when I try out new activities, etc...We LOVE it here in the summer !
|
I've only been here a year, so I still avoid doing strenuous activities outside during summer afternoons. Otherwise my activities are about the same. But more so because there is more daylight.
I did not move to The Villages because it was in Florida, I moved to Florida because that's where The Villages is. |
Wish we had a "like" button/tab" on TOTV as so many of the positive answers here are true! We wouldn't have moved to FL either---except for The Villages! There's nothing like it anywhere else!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it here!

Again, the heat does not bother me and does not keep me from doing anything I want, though sometimes I go through 3 or more shirts in a day! in summary, summer heat would definitely NOT be a concern for me in considering a full-time move to TV. |

Actually same as winter only more pool time |
Have to admit - and I know this is going to sound silly but . . .
The heat does not bother me - it bothers my wife. Moved from Long Island to So. Fl. 7 years ago and love the weather. Of course it is funny - In NY around April when it started reaching 60 degrees it felt so nice. Now 60 is cold to me. Although I know I will get used to it MY silly concern is will moving to The Villages be "too cold" for me during the winter months. Basically I have become a "Florida Wimp." But, I do know that I will adapt and adjust and will be out there chasing that little white ball around 12 months a year! And, I imagine going from one side of the fairway to the other will help me stay warm !!!! :D |
As a wannabe, I don't know what one's schedule would be but I tend to think that people who are active would do things in the early morning and take it easy in the afternoon when it would be hot and then do things after the heat has died down. The heat does not bother me and I would enjoy it being warm all year round.
I personally feel that it's no picnic in the northeast when at certain times the temps can reach 100 with a 100 percent humidity. Then, like all older people must do, take it easy and stay in a/c. I'm sure there must be indoor activities one could partake of in a/c. |
[QUOTE=Regor;588017]There is nothing to do here in the summer! Way to hot!! Don't even think of moving down here full time!!! Leave it to us that have to suffer all summer ;-)[/QUOTE
Seriously, you must be trying to keep the crowds down, so we can have this place all to ourselves! |
In my home town in upstate New York the temps were low but the humidity always 80% plus so I thought ou summerswere warm. when I moved to Memphis found both temps and humidity high but back then it didn't bother me. In fact my neighbors many of whom were natives of Memphis thought I was nuts to be outside playing stick ball with the neighborhodd kids. I have lived in Iowa and the humidity was high there and in Minneapolis were the air was drier and so could handle the summers nd winters better.
I moved to TV about 6 1/2 years ago and handled the summers well until this past summer. The humidity is the culprit. But because I am an early riser I could avoid most of the higher heat thus diluting the affect of the humidity. My wife would never have moved to florida but for the fact of The Villages. She was made for The Villages loves people, loves to dance loves to talk. Her only problem is her spouse what a dud. |

Our first summer
This past summer was our first summer here so I wasn't sure how we were going to handle it because we had heard so many "it's too hot in Florida in the summer" stories. We loved it!! We have a pool so swimming was an activity that we did several times a day. We could get our ecerices and relax in the pool. We learned to go do activities early morning or later evening. The heat of the day was spent shopping, swimming, and most anything as long as we weren't really active in the heat. We always had people over to enjoy our lanai and pool and had a blast. If it rained we had an excuse to be lazy that day or actually get some housework done! The longer days are a bonus and we could eat 2-3 meals outside which we really enjoyed. If it got too hot outside we could always go inside or jump on the pool. We love the summer here and wouldn't trade it for anywhere else.

I play Saturday's on a neighborhood softball team all 12 months and usually twice during the week I play golf on one of the championship courses year round. On the other four days of the week I will usually do a two hour workout on at least two days using resistance bands, a 10 pound medicine ball and two 20 pound hand weights. I also try walk or ride my bike a day or two a week. Generally I try to do at least one physical exercise everyday. As we get later in life I came to realize you only have one body so you best take care of it, to me it doesn't really matter what month it is.
I can remember back in Baltimore in January or February thinking I wish I could go ride my bike or take a walk, golf didn't even enter the picture and it was just too cold to leave the house. I'll take this over any of those days. |

We have our clubs, golf, exercise classes, meet with friends! All of it! |
I play watervolleyball everyday then I chase Johnny bubbles around in my golf cart as he has a bubble machine putting out bubbles... If u get bored u can go to bubbas raceway and watch the car races or go out with the WINGNUTS an judge wings at different wing joints outside the bubble....don't worry u will love it in the summer

What do we do???? With all the oppressive heat, rain, severe thunder & lightning storms there's not much to do. Factor in there's no one here during the summer months so the golf courses, movies, restaurants and squares are just like ghost towns. Trust me you really would not like it here during the summer.
|
What to do in the summer, we'll; we do walk away the pounds two days a week, Pickleball two days a week, golf two days a week and water volleyball three days a week, around five we are either on our or a neighbors lanai with adult beverages or off to the squares for dancing, movies or just hanging. Biggest problem is figuring out what not to do because there is only so many hours in a day. Love this place especially in summer when there are no crowds.

Let's See
In the winter I play softball 4 days a week. In th summer I play softball 4 days a week.
In the winter I play golf 3 days a week..in the summer 4 days a week (cheaper) In the winter I play pickle ball -in the summer I play pickle ball! Oh ..I also work 34 hours a week @ night year round. |
It is a personal thing.
It is Hot in the summer. I think hotter than the mid-atlantic area. I can deal with it, but the wife does not like it. Many people have their grandchildren down during the summer and there is some type of summer camp for them. Much noisier at the family pools with the kids screaming all the time. We did not want to own 2 houses, so we chose heat over cold & snow.
