beginner golf league?

anyone know where a beginner golfer, can find other beginners to play with. It is so intimidating to get on a course, with two men as your foursome! Would love to play with a couple of other beginner women, until I get better.

Tom Hannon 12-12-2012 10:23 AM

My wife would be perfect. She's played a half dozen times and is uncomfortable playing with players of better talent. She hates being rushed and told to pick up her ball. But Caryl and I won't be in TV until mid January. If interested drop me a PM and I will pass it along to her. We live in Buttonwood and a course like Turtle Mound or Bonita would be a great place to begin.

maryj 12-12-2012 02:14 PM

Would love to play with other beginner ladies, will be out of town till January 4th- l have been trying to find a group to play with - Maryj

dajeannie 12-12-2012 10:26 PM

Billyg 12-12-2012 10:40 PM

I will be playing for the first time tomorrow so I'm a beginner. I would love to play. Please PM me and we can get together hopefully with another 2 beginner ladies. Good golfers intimidate me as well at this point.

siu74 12-13-2012 03:05 PM

I'm interested. I live in Buttonwood.

How did the first game go and what do you think??? I think your tomorrow was actually today and from what I hear the weather is less than ideal right now. But tell us how it went.

I would love to join.

Deter1 12-20-2012 10:21 PM

You have had plenty of replies to your Beginner Golf idea, but could you hold off until after the first of the year? Then, when most of the people interested are back in TV maybe you could have a meeting with everyone interested and get it off the ground.

I am actually writing for my friend who will not be back until early January.

Beginners Golf

I would like to golf with ladies who have just learned the game or simply just want to go out in have fun on the course. If you live near Sanibel or Gilchrest area let me know.

Marcia

janieb 09-09-2013 09:39 AM

I would also be interested, I used to golf more often, have never been very good and now I haven't golfed for over 2 years and I am terrible and a little nervous about hitting the courses until I get better. I would love to join you but will not be there until late December however

kfierle 09-09-2013 09:50 AM

I, too, would be interested playing with those with little experience who just want to go out and have fun. Unfortunately, I will not be there until the beginning of November.

I am new to golf and would love to find some ladies to play with.

jojo 09-09-2013 07:18 PM

Did anyone respond or get together to play as a result of this thread? I have reduced my work schedule and would like to play more and am essentially a beginner.

asianthree 09-09-2013 07:24 PM

will be down in mid october...will pm to see who is available

lovinganimals 09-09-2013 08:02 PM

I have only played twice and would love someone to play with who is new also. Sounds like there are enough people for us all to play with no matter when we are available. Maybe we could set a date and time for everyone to meet for lunch or something and we could all get to know each other and see when we would like to play.

Bonnevie 09-10-2013 06:23 AM

I may be interested as well...played a little with my son when he was learning but he was so competitive it wasn't fun...I might like it playing with people my own (lack of) skill level

I'm a full time resident in Amelia and would love to get out and golf more. PM me and let me know if and when a meeting is arranged. Great idea!

graciegirl 09-10-2013 08:02 AM

I volunteer to play with ladies who are just beginning. It is a very good idea to have one experienced golfer with the group who is patient and helpful and fun and will help keep the group moving at the pace of play.

That does mean that new golfers may have to pick up the ball after double par and learn where to park their carts and to quickly walk off the green and chat at the next tee.

There is a free orientation course given somewhere at some rec centers that teaches you the way golf is done, which does emphasize the etiquette of golf and how to play as a beginner, have fun and keep up with the group ahead of you.

No new golfer wants to be rushed, but it is a fact of life. We have all been new. You can have fun and keep moving.

I am available anytime . I am not mean.

I used to run a Par-3 League for General Mills when I was working there and you are correct, as important as it is to learn how to hit the ball, knowing basic golf etiquette and keeping the pace of the game going is also important and an essential part of learning the game.

getdul981 09-10-2013 08:57 AM

First off, let me say that I will not be playing with you ladies. However, I believe that you will do yourself and others a great service if you take lessons before you go out and try to play golf. My wife and I never picked up a club before we moved here and never planned to either. After we saw everyone out having fun and socializing, we decided to give it a shot. We took a lesson or two, bought a relatively inexpensive set of clubs and continued to take lessons. We took lessons for about 2 or 3 months before we ever went out to play. My wife was still too self conscious to try, so she still took lessons and we went to the driving range several times a week. We are still taking lessons, but we are also getting out and playing. My wife is way better than most people that have only been laying for a year and a half and I believe that is because of the lessons and going to the driving range. We are now playing 2-3 times a week.

Barefoot 09-10-2013 09:22 AM

I will be arriving in TV in mid November. I am volunteering to keep track of the names of all the late arrivals to TV, and I will contact you all. (If you wish, you can PM me your email address and your Village. If not, I'll contact you by PM.). If you don't hear from me in November, please rattle my chain. My hope is to set up a regular AFTERNOON game on a weekly basis with women who are new to golf, but have some idea of the basics. Perhaps we can have more than one foursome.

Myself, I took lessons at Palmers, and then didn't play for a year, so promptly forgot most of what I learned. Last year I golfed a few times, so I know the basics, and how to play ready ball and keep up the pace. I play for fun only, and for fresh air and exercise. I'm not athletic and I had a knee replacement in July, so I can assure you this will be basic fun golf, nothing more challenging. I thought we could start off playing easy courses and see how we like it.

Looking forward to some fun golf this winter!

PennyAnn 10-21-2013 07:32 PM

Would love to get in on this.... Just starting as well. Returning to TV Dec 28th.

cab1948 10-21-2013 08:16 PM

Consider myself a beginner golfer. I do play ready golf and know that is very important. Has anyone met yet? Is there a group already playing. Please PM me a time and place where we can all meet.

Erijo 10-21-2013 08:35 PM

I think I would like to learn. I am from NY , where do I begin?

beachx4me 10-22-2013 11:34 AM

This sounds like fun. I am taking lessons right now. I have never, ever played before. I will pm my information. It has been interesting to say the least, hit some straight, hit some to the left, and even dig some dirt!!!

kfierle 10-22-2013 02:22 PM

As stated before, I would like to be involved in this group. I am not new to golf but would like to play with some non-competitive, like-minded golfers and I have great patience. I will be back at the beginning of November.

If there is a group that is currently playing, please send me a PM if you would be willing to have me to join your group.

Karen

I began by taking "New to Golf" at Arnold Palmer Golf Course. Just a few morning hours for one week, to learn the basics. If you're like me, you'll probably promptly forget most of what you learn, but a few things will stick with you. You may meet some novice ladies there who are interested in golfing with you.

There are always lots of used golf clubs for sale at garage sales. And there are nearby driving ranges where you can practice your swing. (haha, I sound like I know what I'm talking about ... I don't).

When you feel like joining a group, PM me. If we have one going, I'll give you the details.

Karen, I'm not sure if there is a group of newbies currently playing. Hopefully someone will PM you if there is.

In early September, I volunteered to organize a "late arrivals" group for rookie women. I suppose it will be mostly seasonal (winter) residents. But I won't be arriving until mid November.

If there are a lot of interested rookies that are winter residents, it would probably make sense to organize several groups by area. I'll post on this thread when I'm there and unpacked and organized (ha). And I'll ask for email addresses for those who want to play fun golf on some of the Level 1 or 2 courses.

DonH57 10-22-2013 03:42 PM

I know I posted to this thread a while back and withdrew my post when I seen it was all ladies. I just wanted to add even men starting out in golf will have a hard time finding other newbies. So far I have found experienced men golfers don't really want to play golf with the least experienced but I keep trying. There is a singles golf club and it's basically a match making social club. No married golfers who's spouse don't play golf like me.

Most of us that have played golf for years know how important it is to take lessons BEFORE you ever step foot on the golf course. And PRACTICE at the driving range before you play your first round of golf.

This is where you start. The "good golf school" is a must for a beginner here in TV and it's free.
This is where you learn there is no "shame" in picking up your ball and moving on to the next tee and you learn some other things about golf etiquette.

You can play golf well into your 80's and 90's and it's really fun! You are never too old to have fun. Fore! :coolsmiley:

I agree Jim.

It is important to know the rules and the etiquette so you won't be friustrated if you are asked to step up the pace. This is all explained to you.

Again, I volunteer to go with any new girls in Bare's group. I think it is important to have a patient and experienced golfer with you when you start. (Notice, I didn't say GOOD, just experienced)
