I'm in the dark....what letter are you referring to?

BobnBev 12-13-2012 04:19 PM

What letter is that??

gomoho 12-13-2012 04:27 PM

Please share the letter you are referring to - we are all curious.

Lbmb24101 12-13-2012 04:44 PM

What letter did Mr Morse send?

pooh 12-13-2012 04:56 PM

Check your mailbox today, snail mailbox that is... :D.....we just read our letter....we're in, too.

swrinfla 12-13-2012 05:03 PM

I just wish there were signs of the appropriate doctors signing on; signs of the other facilities being under construction!

I know. All I hear is good doctors leaving. I don't know what letter you are talking about but with health issues being an older adult's number one worry, THIS isn't the best place to be.

See that all you varmints who say I never criticise this place?

AND...The Morses can build buildings but they cannot make good medical people come here.

NotGolfer 12-13-2012 05:14 PM

Have to say...we did not get a letter in our snail mail today from Gary Morse. Wonder if we will???!!! We never got the health-survey that went out neither.

bike42 12-13-2012 05:33 PM

The letter is addressed to all 92,154 residents. If yours wasn't in your mailbox today, check tomorrow or the next day. It's a very nicely written explanation of the neighborhood Care Centers (seven planned, with the first -- in Colony -- opening soon).

Did you pay your bounty fee when entering Florida?

eremite06 12-13-2012 06:46 PM

"Mayo Clinic" style of salaried doctors in 8 Health Centers. Success depends entirely on the quality of the doctors. The centers can be built quickly Villages style, but to hire 70 to 80 doctors may be time consuming. The doctors will be general practitioners that serve limited patients and have the patience to serve.

Sounds good to me.

I got a letter and I'm Canadian, so it definitely has been sent to each and every resident.

shcisamax 12-13-2012 06:56 PM

Is it a version of boutique medicine?

lovesports 12-14-2012 02:09 AM

I got it in the mail today.

If it is one thing we are really disappointed in here, it is the quality of the Drs. Coming here from MA, and just outside of Boston, we had wonderful Drs. to chose from. I just don't see the draw for highly qualified Drs. here.
What we see is just ok, very hit or miss. If my husband or I get a serious illness,we're out of here! What is the name of Gary Morse's Dr.?

Well, we will probably never get to know who he is, but it's pretty obvious he/she's at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.

I, too, moved from the suburbs of Boston and had really never been very sick while living in Massachusetts, but my primary care was at Beth Israel and it does not get much better than that! However after moving here my other half had a rare cancer and I had major kidney problems. My husband was diagnosed right here by our primary care, and I was diagnosed at one of the critical care clinics, and then passed along to a local urologist who sent me to Mayo.

So don't give up on the availability of good medical care right here just yet - oh, and while I'm about it, let me tell you that the 3 hr drive from here to Mayo is a piece of cake compared to getting in and out of the Beth Israel in the middle of Boston.

So sorry to hear of your health issues but good to hear that you found answers not too far away.

I suspect this will be concierge type of system. Pay a fixed amount to enroll, then co-pays with the rest being billed to your insurance.

Doc in a box

The "man" will take care of all of us,,, I am looking forward to this happening,,what a pain it is to get into see a doc quickly,,, u can bet if the powers that be are running this,,it will be ran efficient manner with satisfied customers. The problem will come is what kind of doc will come work for the lackluster salaries that are paid In this area?

Will for sure be lots new foreigners that have no solid ties to any home community,so they come here trying to establish themselves. So don't expect to get Marcus Welby . Will most likely be more dr Greg House, lots of wackos that can't get jobs in there hometowns or have been ran out there local areas.
I am looking foward to this this.we need better docs here...we are great guinea pigs for these docs we all are old and if we die they can pass it off as aging patients as opposed to making a mistake

Madelaine Amee 12-14-2012 08:32 AM

Totally disagree

With all respect for your opinion, I totally disagree with you on this. Do you really believe our local doctors work for local wages, you only have to see the clinics they build to see that they are doing very well.

"Foreigners" - I think you are assuming that all doctors with different names are not born, raised and educated right here in the U.S. My favorite and quite brilliant doctor at the Beth Israel was of Chinese parentage, and American born. Americans come in all colors, all shapes and all sizes these days; and living in Florida we are going to have more and more hispanic doctors practicing here. In my case at Mayo, my surgeon was of Greek parentage, my husband's Oncologist was Indian!

In our case, whenever we need to see a doctor we are not familiar with, I research where they did their residency and I have never yet found one locally who has not been educated right here in the U.S.

There is a watchmaker at one of the local flea markets who is from Vietnam. My husband was talking with him one day and found out that his six, yes six, children had all been born here, educated here and were ALL doctors, dentists, Engineers ........... you name it, and they had all done it on studying hard and getting scholarships.

Will most likely be more dr Greg House, lots of wackos that can't get jobs in there hometowns or have been ran out there local areas.
This is a really insulting comment.

Was told in July there is a waiting list, which we are supposedly on, and they would be contacting us in December to let us know who the doctors are etc.
It is a rather confusing process, but the building looks to be near completion so hopefully more information will be out soon.

tsew22 12-14-2012 09:12 AM

Thank you, for the encouragement, and glad you are both doing well.

I would have to come along side this comment/poster and say that one should never make judgements by skin color or ethnicity!! Whenever I make an app't with a new provider I try to do my "due diligence" to find out their credentials first. I have a specialist I see in Ocala, who is of a different race than me---she's top-notch and I like her very much. America, last I heard, is a melting pot of all people from around the world. So far, since moving here we've found our practioners to be fine. IF, Heaven forbid, either of us would get a catastrophic illness we'd probably look as this poster did for someone who could "best" address our illness.

I have to wonder "if" the food..... and health-care here is so bad---why is it this community is growing so quickly??

We received a call yesterday to say that we have been accepted to the new Colony facility. Informed that once we receive our new patient packet in the mail we can call to schedule our first time visit. Person who called also stated 300 ppl were selected, and selection was made geographically.

Did you do anything prior to this...like participate in a survey or program at the GHP (or whatever it's called) office in Lake Sumter Landing???

I'd LOVE to be a patient at the new clinic!!!

skyguy79 12-14-2012 09:34 AM

I haven't seen the letter yet, but when The Villages held the government day at Colony Rec, USF Health in The Villages was set up there. I got to speak with the director and in the conversation was told that if your provider was going to work in the new USF facility at Colony, you will be given the opportunity to continue with that same provider.

:2excited:
:pepper2:

... especially with my provider moving there and the difficulty I experienced in finding a provider I liked!

Several months ago there were articles in The Sun saying to call or write the USF office in Sumter Landing if you were interested in becoming a patient, to get put on their waiting list. I did that. Yesterday I received a letter (separate from the Gary Morse letter) saying that the Colony Care Center is not in my neighborhood so I would not be a patient there, but should wait for a Center to be built near us.

I went to the office in person not all that long ago..just a handful of weeks in fact. The woman at the desk was not helpful. ALL she said was you will have to wait until an article comes out in the Sun...so watch for it which I've done. There has been nothing in that article. My provider is stated by one name...I saw a nurse practioner (always) so her name wasn't on the insurance card that I have. Guess I'm out in the cold then.

NotGolfer 12-14-2012 11:26 AM

to add to comments...

I tried looking in The Villages Phone Book but couldn't locate The Villages USF office's phone number to check with them on all this information. Can anyone here help???

Dave n Sue 12-14-2012 11:51 AM

I called the Doctors of Belleview ofc several months ago and they placed me on a wait list.

NotGolfer 12-14-2012 12:21 PM

Thanks....I made my call(s) today! So will wait to see "if" we get the letter that folks speak of here!!!

Interesting, when we signed up in June we were told it would be done on a first come first served basis. Will have to call on Monday and see what's up.
