questions about life in the villages

we are a gay married couple from Niagara falls NY, thinking of possible move to the villages, are there any gay couples that would consider talking about life for gay couples in the villages?...thanks Jim & Ron...and our goldendoodle Portia too!!

lanabanana73 12-29-2012 07:08 PM

Welcome to TOTV!! I've sent you a PM with my observations during my October visit.

another Linda 12-29-2012 07:52 PM

There may not be many gay couples on TOTV, but remember that is only a fraction of the people in TV. I for one would welcome you as I would anyone else. I hope you get some responses from those who may know more than I do.

Happinow 12-29-2012 07:58 PM

All walks of life are here

I'm hoping that your life as a gay couple would not be any different than those who are heterosexual. People here are very kind and accepting from what I've observed. Welcome.

Nicely said.

I agree.

hotrodgirl 12-29-2012 09:32 PM

I think you would be most welcome in The Villages and would hope your life would be a happy one here! Personally, I would welcome you both as I would anyone else, and feel this is mostly the norm in TV. By the way, welcome!! FYI- Portia would love it here!

ducati1974 12-29-2012 09:37 PM

We have two gay couples living within four houses of us and as far as I'm concerned they're as welcome as anyone else.

Portia 12-29-2012 09:41 PM

thanks for the replys !!!

gerryann 12-29-2012 09:42 PM

You would be welcomed the same as everyone else is.

But, how would anyone know that you are a gay couple? You lost me on that one.

ilovetv 12-29-2012 09:57 PM

I think most of us are used to having gay friends, co-workers and neighbors in the places where we've lived previously, and it's no big deal. Like everywhere, what matters is that people, regardless of gay or straight, are well-mannered and considerate of others.

I actually think TV's population has a big concentration of "the best of" all the cities, towns and suburbs we've lived in.....the natural diversity here, with people from all states, various countries, walks of life, etc., is exceptional.

My partner and I went for a LSV in early Dec and are VERY interested in moving there. We spent a day with friends that moved from NH down there last year, if you're interested I could connect you so you can hear their experiences. And - check out About Us - Rainbow Family & Friends

Hi Jim / Ron, my partner and I visited TV for about 5 years prior to setting up a second home here...and always felt welcomed by all. We go back and forth to / from our home in Miami every couple of weeks...for we still have friends, and family to visit with, as well as some investment properties to manage...and it's been a great 18 months thus far. It seems that there's a whole lot more gay females than there is males...but heck all you need is a few buddies to enjoy all that TV has to offer. I'm in my 40's...but I've met a few guys in their 20's, 30's and 40's that live here. In most cases a lonely or ill parent was the reason for the move, but they all seem to have adjusted...and like it here. Call me anytime... Ray (786) 326-9375

USSGompers 12-31-2012 09:52 PM

I am so glad it was mentioned for you to contact the Rainbow Family Club here in the Villages. They can answer every question you may have.

See you two soon.

A friend of mine muses that it was easier to come out as gay in the Villages than to admit to being a democrat!

Portia 01-01-2013 07:29 AM

Ronnie and I are really really enjoying the feedback and look forward to our trip there on Jan 20th...for our 2nd look.....we have rented a gold cart for a couple of the days and look forward to getting lost all of the time..LOL..Jim

paulandjean 01-01-2013 08:06 AM

From what my partner and I have seen over the last 6 years tou will be welcome. However to much affection for each other, lets say a the squares would draw criticism. eg: holding hands, a small peck or a kiss..

Hope you enjoy your upcoming trip to TV for a second look. If you get lost in your golf cart, just pull off the golf cart path and take out a map of The Villages. Chances are someone will be along shortly who will be glad to give you directions.

By all means do not miss Petrina at The Waterfront Inn on Thursdays at 6:30. Lots of fun in the Lobby.

bachfan 01-01-2013 01:06 PM

I heard it said by a gay women that it was easier to come out as a lesbian in TV than as a Democrat. I thought that was a classic line. We Welcome all good, friendly people regardless.

Gay?

There are bigots everywhere. My best man was gay. We grew up together. Great guy. I've worked with "gay" people all my life and so have all of us. I care about the person, not their sex life. Come and Welcome!!

Geez Gracie, I wanted to come out to my family first before you outed me. Ah well, guess I won't have to take off my presidential bumper sticker before I get down there. :)

graciegirl 01-02-2013 05:34 AM

If it says you are voting for Harry Truman or even Brad Pitt, you are my friend.

And your friend was absolutely correct.

paulandjean 01-02-2013 08:01 AM

On a serious note, This is very "Republican" area, and we know of the track record in the past on this subject,Everyone seems to be painting this rosy feeling of accepting ones style, but in truth you have to be very careful. People will turn on you very quickly.

Moderator 01-02-2013 08:06 AM

This thread has veered far off topic into some partisan political comments, even if made in jest.

It appears the OP received enough serious answers to their question, so, the thread will be closed.
