Xmas up North, now back here and sick

Anyone else go North for Christmas and come back here deathly sick? We came back on Friday, I was throwing up all yesterday and now have a terrible hacking cough etc. etc. The other half is now sick and we sound as though we need a hospital, not a house, in TV.

graciegirl 12-30-2012 05:14 PM

Helene and I went for our six months exam at the doctors on Friday and the doctor was feeling very sick, coughing and leaving the room to sneeze and said the couldn't cancel, people would complain at the end of the year.

I dunno.

Welcome home!!!

marybb 12-30-2012 09:35 PM

We got back from Ma. Sat night, family up north with terrible colds, daughter now sick. Son who did not go up north sick. It's that time of year again. All I can say is hand washing, hand washing, hand washing.!!!

ssmith 12-30-2012 09:36 PM

miracle medicine...

... I speak in jest but....I had the Upper Respiratory infx and started by taking Tylenol cold and sinus but was advised to switch to Aleve Cold and Sinus and let me tell you there is no comparing. Aleve Cold and Sinus is much, much better, lasts 12 hrs and did not make me jittery even though it has a decongestant in it...cause it is spread over the 12 hrs. Hope this helps!

jblum315 12-30-2012 09:52 PM

Well, I flew up there and I flew back and somehow I didn't get the airplane cold that I thought was inevitable. Maybe because I flew north on Jet Blue and south on Southwest it confused the virus, it didn't know where to deploy its forces.

NotGolfer 12-31-2012 09:13 AM

Tis the season for illness's....whether "up north" or "down south", it doesn't matter. I know folks who caught stuff up there and some who live here and came down with it. The flu is going around regardless.

Drove past Paramount Urgent Care yesterday---their parking lot appeared quite full. Wash your hands frequently, stay home if you don't feel well and the rest of us...hope for the best!

Oh..the other day at Walgreens at Colony while picking up RX's the clerk asked if I'd my flu shot (I have) after which she said that the flu has been all through the workers at the store. A shot may or may not help!!!

Try to stay healthy

Two neighbors of mine have been sick...one with a terrible cold that lasted about 3 week (their family was at their house over Thanksgiving from Ohio and grand daughter had a cold) and the other just got back from the Outer Banks and they got sick while there. My other neighbor has flu like symptoms and his wife has a cold. Hubby and I, a few weeks ago, felt a cold coming on and we took Cold Eeze with Zink and Zicam. Both work wonders for us. Not sick yet....knock on wood.

I left work on Friday sick as a dog. After tossing my cookies and five hours of sleep, I felt much better. It's going around and I also had my flu shot but I guess it didn't stop it this time.

It's Monday and all is well again.

graciegirl 12-31-2012 09:41 AM

I always wonder why in the winter people get sick...seems like more often.

I also wonder what people think flu is.

I have heard of all kinds of symptoms attributed to flu and terms stomach flu and touch of flu.

Sweetie and I got the lalapalooza shot this year because we are over....a certain age ;) and got a sore arm for sure which I hope indicates we really got immune to what I think is a lulu virus that attacks head and chest and makes you feverish and achy. And this virus changes and mutates and that is the reason we have to get a new shot every year.

I was once told that once you had a certain type of cold you were immune to that particular virus for always, but the trouble is that there are tons of different cold viruses.

I think that you do have a shot at warding off some bugs if your general health is good.

Anyway. Welcome back snowbirds, germs and all. We love you and will share our germs with you.

Happy New Year.

I don't know why I typed all this.

I think it is because I don't feel like exercising this morning........

We are both really sick, but you are so right, nothing like sitting in your recliner, wrapped in a blanket, and watching the golfers go round in the sun, knowing that in a couple of days you will be feeling OK again.

Don't know if it is the same but there is an illness going around the country that includes a hacking caough and dripping noselasting two -three weeks. I've run into a number of people who hae complained abot it.

That super dosed flu shot sent some seniors to the Villages Hospital

My husband and I went up to my daughter's house in Kentucky two weeks before Christmas. We drove back on Saturday and I came down with a sore throat, hacking cough, no energy, etc, but no throwing up, on Monday. My husband got it two days later and we were both sick for a week. We are just now back to feeling like ourselves. We sat in front of the TV over Christmas. So sorry you are so sick. Hope you feel better really soon. Happy Girl.

Thank you for your kind words. My friend's husband was rushed into TV hospital last night at 3am, put through every test known to man, just got home with a diagnosis of - you guessed it - the flu! She said the hospital is out of beds and overloaded with sick people, supposedly they are ambulancing them out to surrounding hospitals.....................

But, you know, there are a lot worse things happening in this world than us having the flu. At least we know we will get over this.

No excuses here. Stayed home in So. Fl. Haven't had a cold since we moved down here 7 years ago. On Friday night came down with a whopper. Stayed in bed Sat - Mon. Today starting to feel a little better. Good ole dayquil and nyquil.

exwave 01-01-2013 08:40 PM

Did not go north, but have been coughing and sneezing , since christmas eve. Constant cough, etc...went to urgent care, and there was a lot of the same coughing there. I'm on anti biotic, and getting better...it"s new year's day and i still have it...something going around, and seems to be very contagious.

De Lis 01-02-2013 08:05 AM

Yup, same here (all sick). Seeming to become a family 'tradition'.
