I need to spray paint a new refrigerator
I know this is going to sound crazy, but here goes: I have all "Bisque" appliances in my kitchen. I hate the Side-By-Side refrigerator that came with the house, as it's too small....no place to put anything. We want to buy a French Door Fridge, which has more room. However, all the companies have stopped making "Bisque". I really can't deal with getting a refrigerator in a different color than the other appliances. However, I also can't justify replacing all the appliances, just so they match. The house is only 15 months old. I thought if I buy the fridge I want, and buy it in white, maybe it could be professionally spray painted "Bisque". First, I'm asking for any other ideas, opinions, etc. Secondly, I'm asking if anyone knows a company that is good that could do this. Someone suggested maybe an Automobile Painter. Any ideas?? HELP!!!! Trish

Why not get stainless steel?

Call Executive Auto Collision on 441 in Summerfield. They are flexible enough to paint just about anything. I was extremely pleased with the price and quality of a job they did for me.
ps: it's not a crazy idea |
The cost to have a good quality paint job done by a commercial autobody/paint shop might make you wince. But before discarding the idea, you might want to give a couple of places a call to see if they've done that kind of work before and what it might cost.
Another potential item to deal with if you'd go that route would be 'color match'. You'd probably need to take something or some part of something into the shop that's already the color of bisque you have. They can match the new paint to that. Otherwise, you're liable to wind up with a fridge in a bisque that's different from your other appliances. Or as jblum offered, maybe consider stainless as an option, just for the fridge. It won't clash - it might turn out to be a good complement what appliances you already have. Bill :) |

Thanks for the advice. I'll give it a shot. Did you deal with anyone in particular? Trish

Place an ad here, Daily Sun, and post it at the post office and ask for a used bisque refrig. Have seen many for sale over the years as people upgrade to stainless.

Painting refrigerator
There's nothing wrong with my 15 month old "Bisque" side-by-side refrigerator, other than the fact that it's too small. It came with our designer home. So, if I were to buy a used one from someone else, it would most likely be the same size or even smaller than the one I have. I am more than willing to go out and buy a BIGGER Bisque fridge. the problem is all the companies have discontinued making the Bisque color. The few that are left in the stores, are all smaller than the one I have. I don't want to buy a different color, as it won't match all the other Bisque appliances in my kitchen. Therefore, I'm trying to figure out a way to have it painted. As I said in my previous post, I'm very open to any and all solutions....other than replacing ALL my appliances. All suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, Trish

Years ago my dishwasher was a different color than the white stove & refrigerator I had. I did not want to replace dishwasher so I painted it white and it was perfect. I used a roller for a textured look and seriously it matched the finish on the fridge exact. I was never sorry that I chose that solution. Good luck

Color Wheel
Visit the Color Wheel store next to Ace Hardware in Southern Trace. They can give you some ideas and probably provide the names of some painters that can match the color and texture perfectly. Color Wheel is really good.

I have actually seen a commercial painting contractor go into a large office and paint desks and file cabinets in place to change the office color scheme. They used a system called electro-static painting, which involves connecting a source of low voltage electricity to the metal items to be painted, and spraying an opposite charged paint. The paint adheres amazingly well to the charged items, and nothing else. That leads me to believe a commercial painting contractor might be able to help.

I would still look for a resale. I have a home built in 2006 with a side by side very large bisque refrigerator. Water and ice in the door. I have also seen these for sale.

I say...think about the plan to paint it three or four more times. Maybe eleven.

My Brother used to be an automotive painter and painted a fridge for my Dad once. It was old fridge that my Dad had behind the bar with a keg and tapper in it.... it looked good for that application. Given a different color, it would looked fine in the kitchen.
I guess my only caution would be that you would most likely void any warranty you would have on the new refrigerator, in the outside chance it were to become defective. Personally, like other have suggested, I believe I would go stainless... Good Luck! |

Have you tried Sears ?
According to this link, they have some bisque French door refrigerators in stock. Bisque French Door Refrigerator - Refrigerators - Over 24.0 Cu.ft. - Compare Prices, Reviews and Buy at Nextag |
I am also wondering if you have looked on line. Also, you can check Sears outlet. There is one in Tampa, which I believe is our closest. I have been looking for a dishwasher that is out of production, and I have found several at the various Sears outlets by looking at them online. Usually they have a picture on the website and a description of why it is in the outlet. Often it says "new in the box". I plan to go to Tampa to actually look at the dishwasher before buying, but they will ship, not only from Tampa, but from many of the other locations around the country. As long as it's not too far north, it's the same shipping rate as Tampa.

Or maybe just buy a second referigerator and locate it in the garage or other room.
|
Up north I worked for GE and we used to refer people to a company that refinished bathtubs and also refinished appliances. You need someone that does electrostatic painting.
