I think I am Irish
I know I am a mutt |
Being Irish myself I had to laugh and find many of the statements true. Grew up in NJ where most were Irish or Scotch with a pub/tavern on just about every corner and a fish & chip store on the other corners. Laughter always abounded out of them too.
As a natural blonde, I have lived with all the blonde jokes all my life but don't take offense at them. I bet all those complaining about the so called Irish stereotyping didn't think twice about laughing at blonde jokes. Laughter is the best medicine and we all have to be able to laugh ourselves too. If not, you grow up being one miserable and crabby old fart. So lighten up all and quit taking yourselves or things so seriously. Laugh, love and be happy. :pepper2: |
I totally agree except I grew up in MA.

Oh yeah
Pick on us crabby old farts :a20: |

I married Irish. I'll have to check with my wife to see who I agree with! http://www.eevblog.com/forum/Smileys...y_laughing.gif

My daughter married a lad from ireland and all I can say is that the irish clan that attended their wedding knew how to party. Following the wedding this clan went to our downtown and took over the local pub. I thoroughly enjoyed their enthusaism

being of Irish descent, I agreed with most of it and didn't take any offense. I think most of us find the jokes about the Irish funny (probably because they tend to be true). I remember watching a music awards show one time and U2 (an Irish band) won....the camera of course turned on them and they were in the first row with bottles of beer in their hands....talk about perpetuating the stereotype....

When I was a young man I dated a very lovely Irish girl. So I checked out the items on your list. Here's what I found to be "true enough".
She had one brother who was a cop and another one was studying to become a priest. She became a nurse. She went to a Catholic high school. Her name, by the way, was Eileen. Talk about genetically incapable of keeping a secret: Oh, boy, after going out on a date with me, she would tell her sister everything we did.....in a romantic way. She wouild tell her every move I made. As far as grudges go, I would say yes but Italians are also very good at holding grudges, especially with relatives. |

She became a nurse. ...False, she didn't have a brother. She didn't become a nurse 3. She went to a Catholic high school. ...True but different school. I went to an all male Military School HS. 4. Her name, by the way, was Eileen. ...True, me too, but I married her! 5. Talk about genetically incapable of keeping a secret: Oh, boy, after going out on a date with me, she would tell her sister everything we did.....in a romantic way. She wouild tell her every move I made. ...False. Would you expect me to tell you and get a black eye even if it were true? http://forum.imperiaonline.org/int/S.../black_eye.gif 6. As far a grudges go, I would say yes but Italians are also very good at holding grudges, especially with relatives ...Oh how true! Happened on both my mothers and fathers side of the family! |
