What company did your solar tubes. Are you satisfied with the install? The price?

Solar Guys - excellent workmanship - highly recommend - been 8 years and we still walk around thinking we have left lights on! We made two major improvements to our home, and this is one of them!

Those of you that have had solar tubes installed in a Begonia, what rooms would you recommend putting them in? We are building this spring and taking lots of notes from all the great suggestions we have seen in TOTV! :pepper2:

Solar Guys. Don't remember the price but it was a long time ago and I'm very happy with them.

Bigben007 01-20-2013 09:48 AM

We have a Begonia and installed a tube in the kitchen, it made a big difference.

Where in the kitchen did you have it installed? Is it in the middle of the kitchen or the breakfast nook area? We were also thinking of maybe putting on in the master bath.
I see that at the top of you page you are in Fernandina. We are building in section 206 on Abana Path and can't wait! Where is your house?

In our Begonia, we had a small tube put in the guest bath and the laundry and larger tubes installed in the kitchen and in the center of the livingroom area. They were all very bright and helped to light up the areas. The best place that you can put one if you are only going to put one is the laundry area. There are no windows there and when you come in from the garage, you have to have some light. Not so with the solar tube. Depends on how your house sits on your lot, you may not need one in the guest bath. The installer from Solar Guys knew where the best spots to put them were.

We too went with the suggestions from the installer. We had one in our cathedral ceiling in the living area and one in the master bath. These people know what they are doing.

We had Solar Guys for our three solar tubes. They were installed 2 years ago. We love them. One in each bath and one in laundry room.

Another vote for Solar Guys. Solar tubes light up your life. They installed five tubes for us, one in kitchen, one in dining room, two in living room, one in a bathroom with no window.

gocubsgo 01-20-2013 01:08 PM

Pretty much any contractor can put in solar tubes and for much less than Solar Guys. They quoted me $737 for 1 tube and I had a private contractor install one for $520. Works great, no leaks and bright light!

Anna Lou 01-20-2013 01:21 PM

We had The Solarguys install our solartube and we are very pleased with the outcome. The opening into our kitchen looks like an upscale light fixture - very attractive bronze with a globe. The technician game exactly when they said he would, was very clean and did the entire install in about an hour and a half. No fuss, no muss.

As for the expense, I'm not sure what others pay but we required extra tubing because of the roof height but we were okay with the cost.

Bigben007 01-20-2013 01:47 PM

The tube is installed in the middle of the kitchen. We live on Killington Loop.

Lark7 01-20-2013 02:49 PM

Solar Guys - they installed three in our Lantana - made an exceptional difference. They are very professional - best investment we have made in our home.

Solar Tube -

The Solar Guys were at a street fair at Lake Sumter last July and I put my name in a bowl won a free tube (also included the permit fee). I had it installed in the laundry room and they did a great job. It is so bright in there that I still try to turn off the lites! I now want to get one for the kitchen area. He showed me where he would put the tube and how far the light would reach. They said they runs special pricing at the street fairs.

We have a Gardenia, which is basically like yours, in which we installed 4 solatubes: over the kitchen sink; in the middle of the laundry room; in the master bath dressing/sink area; and in the guest bathroom.
You might consider refraining from installations in the living and dining room areas because placement of the tubes and resulting light-spread can affect placement of your furniture, especially if you want to move things around every so often. Consider also placement of large screen TV's. We have a neighbor who had to block up a tube because of the daytime glare and reflection in the TV screen.

Thanks for all the great comments on our company! In response to “gocubsgo’s” comments, I would respectfully refer to Ben Franklin who said best: “The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.” While it is true that any tubular skylight will bring in some light, there are many reasons why the genuine Solatube brand is the only one that guarantees you “the highest performance or your money back”. Our Solatubes incorporate exclusive patented technology that is simply unavailable to all other imitation products out there. Investing in a “solar tube” is like purchasing a pillow or eyeglasses. You are not buying a “product,” you are buying what the product GIVES you: comfort and vision respectively. So with the purchase of a Solatube from The Solar Guys, you are not buying the same 10” hole in your roof and 10” solar tube no matter what company you choose, you are investing in the highest natural lighting performance that money can buy, as well as the peace of mind that the company installing the product is a licensed and insured contractor that has proven to be capable and trustworthy to back up their work. Our General Contractor and Roofing Contractor licensure, our Liability and Workers’ Comp insurance coverage, our BBB accreditation and rating, our pre-hire drug testing and background checks for employees, and over 60,000 installs with very pleased customers (see the comments on this thread) prove that to the discerning Villages customer, “to see the light, you need to come to the source: The Solar Guys!”
