Was driving on EL Camino this morning, doing my 35mph and a SUV passed me doing at least 70mph. Bet if I was doing 40mph a cop would have shown up.

You take your chances at speeding or u do the speed limit. It depends on what's more important to u.

Don't worry, sooner or later they'll get caught.

Saw radar cop there on El Camino yesterday at about 4 PM - don't know if they got anyone - should have had a proftable day

I rarely see police in TV. Only twice have I seen radar in the years we have been here. Surely, they give you 5 mph----no? I just figured they were out solving "real" crimes. This is what I use to tell my first cousin who was a State Trooper in Illinois. "Unless it is you Jim", I give them 10mph, he told me! I always wonder what he meant by that?

Really, rarely see police in TV? I guess they must follow me around....I see them all the time. Thank goodness I don't like to go too fast in TV.

Trust me they run radar everywhere. Everyday. They must lead the state in radar issued tickets.

Where are they?

they are on 466A in Fruitland Park. Nearly everyone I know has had one traffic ticket on that stretch of road since moving to The Villages. Another place for speed traps are Micro-Racetrack Road and Rolling Acres. It is posted 35 and believe me they will pick you off if you go anything over that speed.

That is true almost anywhere in FL. There is no 5-10 mph leeway here. A neighbor of mine got caught in Fruitland Park on 466A. One mile over the limit. I just put mine on cruise control and do the speed limit. Let someone else put money in the city coffers.

Funny thing.....I've lived in TV since August 2011, and in Sanibel since june 2012, no tickets.....just go the speed limit, you are fine!

:MOJE_whot: No such thing as a "speed trap!" Travel the posted speed limit and you'll never have a problem!! Always someone else's fault that we as humans screw up!

Lol...short of saying it is highly unlikely, something is wrong here. More than one side? Maybe the cop gave them a ticket for 1 mph OVER the limit but was actually doing more.
I used to manage in one of my positions the North American service centers regarding repair and replacement of odometers, DVDs, radios, OnStar, and other electronics in a car. The federal law at the time was an odometer could be no less than 2% off the actual speed. Check it with your GPS. Usually it is 2% higher. Think about it... If manufacturers made their speedometers go 2% faster, the miles driven is 2% more. Therefore your warranty on 36k is 2% less. Another reason why they give you a break on warranty repair when close.
Police also know the rule.

"Where are they" is a rhetorical question, and it's because where they are when the question is asked is not where they were when they were seen... unless of course one has some mysterious ability to know the unknown or see the unseen, maybe even see the unforseeable occasionally.

Radar south of Palmer on Buena Vista this morning around 9:30. Glad to see they had some customers!

Good explanation. I have always thought the 2% was to help keep the average driver from getting a ticket.

This thread makes me laugh. We have threads when people are ticketed asking why the sheriff is not out dealing with "real" crime instead of just raising money for the county through ticketing. Then we have threads where someone has seen another vehicle driving too fast, or blowing through a stop sign or red light, and they complain the cops aren't out looking for traffic violations. If I were in law enforcement, I would just shake my head. You can't win.

Sure I've seen them in Fruitland Park and the other municipalities. Most of TV does not have Police---county sheriff is the law. Some cops don't use common sense anymore than residents. Did you see where some of them were driving over 100 mph in the Orlando area (not in pursuit) just Because they thought they could? Several were put on leave for that reason. chilout
