Not really a lot of change. But if you just plot the last five years, up 28% over the CPI increase. However, the average MPG of cars is up 22% in the same period which mostly offsets the cost of driving. Still, for many, the cost of commuting is significant. Tip your servers.

When everyone stops running up and down the road all day wasting fuel. Lower consumption equals lower prices.

Keep in mind, some gas station charge 10 cents more for using your credit card and a surcharge if you are in one of those states that are affected.

Gas price will continue to rise well above supply costs due to supply/demand. As the world economy improves, countries with less domestic oil resources than the US will drive the price higher. And we subsidize this via our tax code that gives domestic oil producers huge tax breaks no matter where they sell their product. The people of India and China thank you.

While I hate it when the price goes up, we are pretty darned lucky compared to the rest of the world. And if fracking doesn't destroy our country, which some think it might, it is going to put a lot of downward pressure on world oil prices. Not that I don't think the big oil companies are satan's spawn, because I do.

To Blueash: I disagree with your sweeping condemnation of today's youth. My two children are two of the politest, kind and generous people I've ever met. I would hasten to say they are much better people that I ever was, being raised by an insane bigot. (My mother, not me) I'm very proud of them and I suspect many others here are of their kids and grandkids too. Sure there are lots of problem youth, but there were when you and I were that age also. And even if it is worse today, it isn't everyone.

I started to write a smartass comment about the need to stand when you walk into the room, but my better angels said no. Plus, I've seen my son do it. Again he's a better person than I am.

You can always buy unleaded gas futures and lock in your gas prices if you're that concerned.

Problem is no one said anything about lazy kids, other than you. The only other comment was that kids don't start cutting corners and saving early enough. I think that is a comment about not being able to see the future at a young age.

While the long term price of fuel will rise on overall global demand, these current spikes in price we see have little to nothing to do with demand. If fact, current US consumption is lower now than 4-5 years ago and global demand is been pretty much a flat line over the same time period.

Speculation, emotion and "because they can" are the reason that gas rises at the pump .25 in two weeks.

The profit tothe oil companies is much less than the Federal and State taxes on the fuel. And the oil companies have to do the work of finding the oil, extracting it, refining it, transporting it to market. As was said, the price is not bad adjusted for inflation.

And if you think it is bad here, go to Germany, close to an Euro/liter.

I don't like the price of gasoline but I don't have an alternative. It's pay the price or push your car. :smiley:
