Double tipping at Katie Belle's
I attended the Token's show at Katie Belle's tonight.Like other attendees ,the price of the ticket included show, dinner, tax, and gratuity. If you didn't order anything else then you paid nothing else.A few people seated at my table ordered dessert. This made for a second bill which included tax of course but also added a new automatically added gratuity. These people complained they were being double dipped on the tip as they paid the automatically added tip when they purchased their ticket.I see their point but the staff worked hard and the tip was a small amount so it wouldn't have bothered me.But it sure did bother them.

Just curious - How much tip are you talking about?
|
I feel your friend's pain - we strongly resented paying the 20% gratuity included with our bill for sunday buffet where we got our own food and almost had to get our own coffee and remove our used dishes! the server was atrocious! so bad that we asked the host for another server! didn't get one - and never got the glass of water that was requested 4 times!!!!! there are too many great breakfast restaurants in the area - we will not go back to kb's or to one that includes a gratuity! we like good service and we don't mind thanking a server for same. randy at obg tonite found that out and chased us to the door to thank us! will ask for him the next time we are there!

The couple bought two pieces of cake at $6 each. With tax and second added tip it came to $15.24.But remember they had already paid an included tip when they purchased a $50.00 ticket for show and dinner.Like I said additional tip was small amount and staffed worked hard but their point is they already paid the staff once.

Double Tipping at Katie Belle's
I would have expected to pay a 20% tip on anything I ordered that was not included in the $50 dinner/show ticket. If they ordered extra stuff, why would they think they didn't have to tip on it?

As people have said in other threads about service and tipping, this extra order involved extra work for the staff. |
I was at Katie Belle's tonight also for the great show - and it was great!
I had 2 beers and my wife had a glass of wine. I had already paid for the dinner and show. The beers and wine were extra. Where else can you get 2 beers and a large glass of wine for less than $10? The tip was an extra $1.90 and I never even thought of questioning it. You paid for the great entertainment and a good dinner. Alcohol and dessert were extra. Extra tip also. No problem. Don't be so cheap! |

As usual on here the messenger is being blamed.I said I had no problem with the extra tip,it was people at my table.Yet I'm being told ,don't be so cheap.Reread my two posts before you call me cheap and lump me in with others.
|
I personally wouldn't have ordered cake at $6 a pop but that's me.
I wouldn't have got upset but I understand, it's the principle of the thing. |
Automatic tip included ruins service if a server knows they are going to get a set amount why would they want to give good service. Thanks for letting me know about KB's I wont go there. Of course I dont go there anyway because the food and service is bad. I tip generously for good service servers do remember you. And you say they include tip on the buffet just because they said hello hell no.
|
Yep, they should expect to pay another tip. They ordered above & beyond what the original tip was for.
|
Folks that seem as though they have a problem tipping for reasonable services should stay home and not take up tables for folks who know how to treat people that are servicing them.

I've seen postings regarding low tips because of bad food (in the posters opinion). Wait staff does not cook the food, but should be told of unsatisfactory food and still given their 20%. |
Geezz.... It isn't a tip any longer. It's a labor subsidy for the restaurant, so they don't have to pay their employees a decent wage.
...and it has nothing to do with me being cheap. I do tip, but I just can't understand how the restaurant industry can get away with this, when other industries can't. OK....let the flaming to begin :D |
They should pay the waitstaff enough that tipping is not the norm. I'm with Memason.
But remenber, waiters don't want a regular wage!? "Hey, waiter, want $12//hour fixed wage?" "Hell, no!" Why? Because they make a fortune on tips (one of my family members is a waitress at a steak house and walks out with $200 each night in cash on any weekend with tips alone--sloooow weekdays it's more like $75--often untaxed---not bad for four hours work not even including their measly $5/hour salary). The restaurant theater wants to sell dessert, they ought not have everyone guessing about tips. Tip included, tip included (even if someone gets a piece of cake--is that really the same a serving a whole meal and deserving a tip? If I order at Corner Bakery and the wait staff brings a slice of pie to my table, I should tip them?) Tipping 20% automatically (on the bill) at a buffet is ludicrous. |

tip
Go back to page one posting where I'm told "don't be so cheap"-if the poster means the other people at the table and not me,he should have made that clear-if I'm wrong I apologize but this is getting way out of hand.I was just reporting some people's point of view.I'm out of here.
|
You didn't come off as cheap, only the folks that had a problem with the additional tip.....NOT you! Forget about it...over, done, adios, bye, bye...have a good night :)

"I see their point but the staff worked hard and the tip was a small amount so it wouldn't have bothered me.But it sure did bother them. "
Well, you did say "I see their point" but then contradicted yourself. I think that is where the confusion is... |
