Paczki

Does anyone sell Paczki here in the villages. We always looked forward to them in Toledo.

Quietman 02-11-2013 08:04 AM

I know Walmart does. I bought some yesterday.

Bonny 02-11-2013 08:11 AM

Hubby goes every year to Walmart to get his fix.

Cedwards38 02-11-2013 08:13 AM

OK, what's Paczki?

I saw them in Publix. Packzi is the Polish word for Fastnacht! (does anyone know what that means?)

Mmmmmmm.....paczki's from Wixey's in Toledo. for those of you that don't know, it is pronounced poonchkey and it is different from a jelly doughnut. I believe it is made with a more dense dough and yeast. Also made me sad to miss the Lagrange street polish festival!

marianne237 02-11-2013 08:56 PM

Fastnacht = Calories

graciegirl 02-11-2013 09:03 PM

A donut? A German donut eaten on Shrove Tuesday?

mfp509 02-12-2013 01:52 AM

I just saw a box of them at Publix.

Barry RX you must be from Toledo. I saw on WTOL website the polish ladies are busy baking. Makes me a little homesick too. Toledo is not all bad but I would rather be here...

Polish jelly doughnuts. My husband's mom used to make them.

You have that pronounciation right.........as well as the description.....
Hubby still remembers them from his childhood. He calls them punchky.
But his mom said it the way you mention above...........poonchkey.

polish jelly doughtnuts - Bing Images
Polish Jelly doughnuts “images”.........

There is a Polish bakery in Detroit that ships them.............authentic ones.

HDriders 02-12-2013 07:44 AM

Sounds like a fasnacht to me, w/o the jelly filling. I spent every year making fasnachts on Shrove Tuesday as part of my wonderful PA Dutch upbringing.....can still smell the aroma of those rising in the kitchen and then frying them up in lard, of course!!

bonrich 02-12-2013 07:58 AM

I just finished up our last paczki's last night. Bought two of each, bavarian cream, lemon, red raspberry, black raspberry. Been working on them, slowly since Saturday.
Talk about a sugar fix!!
BOOYAH!!

Hi Judylou, we actually lived in Maumee, right off the 16th green of Brandywine Country Club for the last 12 years. I agree, it is much better here than in Toledo!

Paczki's

There is a polish deli in Leesburg on 441 right after the "Y" in the road on your left is a small plaza. They're ok but I still make my own.
