Gate Crasher
Here is one that I have never seen before. It was raining and I was heading through the Del Mar gate from SS in the car. In front of me was a gal in her golf cart with the sunbrella down and zipped. As she approached the gate she was in the middle of the road and not even close to the card reader. I watched her pull up to the gate bar very slowly not to hit it and the gate opened. I know there are sensors in the road to trigger the opening or closing but I am not sure just how close they are to the actual gate.
Next time I am up that way I will take a closer look at the inroad sensors as this was a new one for me. Always someone trying to game the system. VG |

why do you think she is trying to game the system? that gate is programed to open if you pull up close to it. its been that way for very long time. thats a good lesson learned that one shouldnt jump to conclusions! |
The gates will open if you use your card....if you press the button.... And if you can't figure it out, it will open after 30 seconds.
|
Personally, I find it more than a little embarrassing that our user friendly gate system is actually dumbed down so that we can use it.

Jumping to conclusions? You have got to be kidding my. It is pure and simple witnessed fact. Why could she not at least pull up to the gate like every other normal law biding resident and either use her card or press the red button to gain access to TV. If what you say is correct that the gate will open if you pull up close enough to it then give me one good reason that TV powers to be do not inform everyone of that when they become a resident. Also wasting money on issuing the RFID cards. Just another villager thinking that there are better than ever one else and rules do not apply to them. From my neck of the woods that is called gaming the system, plain and simple. VG |

The reason may be as simple as this. That gate is the only one in the entire community where you need a gate pass with a golf cart. Most every other one the gate arm is shorter so as to not require a cart on the cart path to need a card. So I never carry a gate pass in the golf cart, I leave them in the car. So when I come to SS I either have to go out to Morse and down that direction to get home or somehow get through that gate. So far I have always used the red button or if following another cart will tail gate. Didn't know about the pull up close and it will open option. So now I have a third option.
|
i just thought the gates were to slow you down to give the golf carts a chance to cross the road quickly before the lawn guys run you over:MOJE_whot:

You don't even have to pull up close to get the gate to open. Just sit there by the sensor without pushing the red button and up the gate will go. Most of us don't have that much patience so if we don't have a card we'll be on the banging the button. When the MLS salesman was showing us homes that's how he went through all the gates.

what a laugh, I am amazed what people worry about. Here you are in one of the best places to live. A perfect place to relax and have fun for the rest of our lives. But some just have to complain about something LOL.

the other set of words that earn a :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl: are "TV and gated community" in the same sentence:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

1.The golf cart pulled up to a closed gate.
2. Golf cart stopped. 3. Gate opened. 4. Golf cart proceeded through open gate. 5. Mission accomplished. Does it make any difference how the gate was opened? |
1.The car pulled up to a closed gate.
2. Car almost completely stops, but not quite. 3. Gate is pushed slightly by car and is in enough of a bind that it fails to open. 4. Car backs up and drives over sidewalk. 5. Mission accomplished. Does it make any difference how the gate was opened? Hmmm.:1rotfl: |
I "believe" that when they put the 4 way stop signs on those corners (at the Del Mar gate), the traffic backed up so badly all around that intersection because people not having cards and waiting for the button to work, or the time needed to pull out a card to get the gate up, that the "powers" made that an automatic gate to open without a card. I NEVER use my card at that gate, that's defeating the purpose of the plan. For those who remember that far back, it has great improved the traffic jam on those streets.
The reason for the 4 way stop signs were, there were wayyyy tooo many accidents happening at that intersection. I personally witnessed one and it wasn't pretty, a golf cart and a car. Right after the stop signs went up. I did not know, however, that other gates automatically went up after a few seconds?? News to me. |

You are correct....no one ever told me it was for security! |

1. My post was intended to be both humorous as well as depict something that I observed here at one of the gates. 2. You could also infer that my post was making the point (especially since I observed this happen) that nosing your vehicle right up to the gate is inadvisable because the risk exists that the distance will be misjudged and damage will result. 3. If I had intended to ridicule your post, you would not have had to ask if that were my intentions. Check my old posts. I do not ridicule anyone. |

Just because the marketing people never addressed the "gated-community feature" , or lack thereof it doesn't mean that they were not being deceptive. The operation/utility of the gates has been problematic. So that it begs the question exactly why did Lake-Sumter, Inc bother with gates on public roads? Secondly why didn't Lake-Sumter, Inc. design incorporate gates for each of its villages? Its actually a rhetorical question. |

The gates are a total joke, there's no real security in them. Anyone can push the red button and gain access to any community. No wonder the crime rate is so high here.

JUST KIDDING BARE!!!:kiss::kiss::D:thumbup::clap2: |
There are other gates in TV that don't have the space for golf carts to pass on the right. The Medical Gate at Silver Lake and the Chula Vista gate are two that come to mind. I know I have seen others as well.
It seems to me that there are three ways to open the gates. Use your card, push the button or pull up to the gate and wait for it to open. I don;t see how any of these is "gaming the system". |
