wow after this carnival incident who is cruising now?? What are your thoughts on the people who want to sue Carnival??

There's enough for a class action suit. Attorneys love that.

I think they have a strong case and will get a nice settlement. I would not hesitate to board a cruise ship tomorrow and take any length cruise.

Just got off our 12th Carnival cruise on 2/9. Planning to take another Carnival in May and again in December. It was an accident---could happen while we are on a ship--- I could also fall out of bed----have an auto accident----golf cart accident---, etc. Cannot worry about something that hasn't happened yet-- Life is too short. Had actually taken around 20 cruises or more ----
Loved each and every cruise we have taken----the best vacation as far as we are concerned and the biggest "bang for your buck."

We leave March 3rd. Looking forward to it!

We leave Saturday the 23rd for a 7 day caribbean cruise on the Carnival Dream! Can't wait! We have no qualms or hesitation at all! We have cruised many times before and look forward to a fun and relaxing time!!

Why should anyone collect anything..The cruise line did nothing wrong.
Yes a generous discount for anther cruise would be a nice gesture for the inconvenience

I will be heading out for a 14 night Caribbean cruise on Celebrity in March. No, I am not concerned about taking a cruise anytime.

As far as I can tell, Carnival did nothing neglilent on this unfortunate incident. Carnival has plenty of high priced attorneys working for the corporation and they will not be paying off on lawsuits. That would set a terrible precedent for the cruise industry. No one got injured - just inconvenienced and a very unpleasant experience. All the passengers got a full reimbursement, a free future cruise, transporation to the home port, and a cash bonus.

All passengers accept a binding contract which basically does not allow one to collect anything for inconvenience or other such incidents. For example, if the ship is unable to get to any of the ports (weather, etc) the cruise line is not obligated to go somewhere else, nor are they obligated to go anywhere.....and there are no price adjustments or any such refunds. We have been on several cruises where one of the ports was dropped and we spent the day at sea. That's the breaks. .....FYI....I would never...never cruise again on Carnival; 2 times and that was 2 times too much. A second class experience.........sort of like the Days Inn and Golden Corral.....with wet t-shirt contests. (the molten lava chocolate cake is to die for...that is the only good thing about Carnival.)

Typical response to a random incident. This country is sue crazy. Ya get tired of all the frivolous lawsuits that these less than competent judges allow in their courtrooms. That's why we have all the stupid labels on things and McDonalds coffee. Own up to responsibilities, and move on. Someone was inconvenienced. They I heard are also being compensated too. But not as much as some want so they don't have to work another day.

A total refund for all costs would be a good start. I am not sure many of these particular travelers will want the free cruise ticket.

Hubby and I love cruising. ALWAYS looking for another cruise to book and that has not changed.

If i lived this way, I wouldn't cross a street for fear of being hit by a car. We have several cruises booked over the next 3 years, Carnival being one of them. Can't wait!

From what I heard on the news, the passengers got a total refund of the cruise. They also got the free future cruise. They also got transportation to the home port, hotel room, and free purchases on board the ship PLUS $500 cash.

Sure, this voyage was terrible but I would be willing to bet that the vast majority of those passengers take the free future cruise.

As I said before, I cruise with Celebrity since I like luxury cruises. This has not put a damper on my cruise plans. I am cruising on the Celebrity Eclipse on 3/23 for 14 days. Looking forward to it!!

We don’t know this for sure. Attorneys for the plaintiffs will be burdened with proving negligence on the part of the defendants in any lawsuit in connection with this unfortunate incident. Something as simple as an overlooked periodic inspection of a critical piece of hardware can result in a multi-million dollar settlement.

And from the numerous news reports of life aboard the Triumph while it drifted aimlessly in the Gulf without power or sanitary facilities for days, it was far more serious than the simple inconvenience of skipping a scheduled port of call.

Now is a good time to watch cruise prices. They may go down. Going again in November. Carnival Dream.

Cruising isn't the in thing up here, however, the few we know from Vermont that have gone on cruises and expensive ones at that, must have chosen the wrong season......as they all said they were on the cruise from hell.....meaning turbulent seas, noro virus, that type of problem. Not being able to stand up during storms.........feeling they wasted their money. One young couple was sick for their entire honeymoon cruise to Mexico.

We've never been on a cruise.....but we have been on boats to Nantucket, to Martha's Vineyard, in Maine, in Florida and to Canada........

The one out of Portland Maine "overnight" to Yarmouth Nova Scotia with our car onboard was a "nightmare". We "sailed" in the evening and the "crew" were all joking and making sarcastic comments as folks were standing at the railing as the ship left Portland.......saying things like "Oh smell that fresh sea air"...."watch out for the rats, etc."......"don't step in the vomit"........really a bad crew. No sooner did it get out to sea, we knew what they meant............gale force winds.........couldn't even eat our dinner..........hardly could walk upright.

The next morning there was vomit all over the deck.

We had a cabin, one of the better ones, in the front of the ship.
A big one. That was the mistake. We should have chosen the middle of the ship.

All night long it was like being on an elevaor. Could not sleep.
Up and down..........it felt like up to the ceiling and then down like an elevator.

In the morning,neither of us could stand upright to take a shower.
My husband couldn't shave. It was the first time in my life I felt seasick.
We couldn't wait to get off that ship..........and get our car on dry land.
Luckily, the little frig in the cabin had some coca cola to settle our stomachs and some gingerale.

We spent two weeks touring all the Canadian Maritimes but had to come back on the same ship........I bought "sea bands" on Prince Edward Island, Canada and wore them on each wrist............however, the sea was as calm and tranquil as could be........it was during the day going back, not overnight like the voyage from hell.

Our other voyage to hell was visiting North Haven Island, Maine, which is ten miles out at sea from Rockland Maine........on a car ferry. No causeway and no bridge to this little island where our daughter was teaching school for a year before returning to Vermont for her masters degree...........we had my elderly parents with us and my stepfather was sick with a gall bladder attack, my mom had diarrhea and my husband was at the top of the boat getting drenched and shouting "Here comes another big one"........meaning wave. Our daughter was holding my hand and her grandmother's hand........and telling us we would be fine.
"Look, there's the island doctor in the next car".........she'd say.
I would think, "A lot of good that will do when this boat capsizes".
God got us to shore........or to the dock.........10 miles of rough weather.

She told us later that the captain told her that he never should have taken the boat back from Rockland to North Haven in those gale force winds....but knew people wanted to be home for the weekend.

After the long weekend, again our return trip,10 miles back, was nice and calm...........but one never knows what the weather will be.

Basically, it was an island of loberster fishermen and their families plus in the summer the ultra rich who had summer homes there. Pretty place.
Needs a causeway. ha ha.

Not particularly fond of how rough weather feels......on the ocean.

Our daughter in law's mom went on one of those luxury cruises on the Baltics......a river cruise........immediately after the Italian ship went down. She had good weather and enjoyed it.

Comparing a luxury cruise ship - yes, the Carnival Triumph does (did?) qualify as a luxury cruise ship - to an overnight ferry ride is like comparing a Lexus to a Yugo.

Your trip on the ferry sounds terrible and I would not want to do that.

What I suggest for you to do is to come to Florida by air, rent a car for a few days and go to some of the areas around Palm Beach, Singer Island, Boca Raton and then take a 10 day cruise on the Celebrity line to the Southern Caribbean. Book a cabin with a verandah. You will become hooked on cruising. Best time to do this is late September to mid-November.

I agree, the best Caribbean cruise is the Southern Caribbean, beautiful islands, clear water. My favorite cruise line is Celebrity and I am going on the Silhouette March 24th to the Western Caribbean again, then in June I am sailing the Celebrity Summit to Bermuda. Celebrity is the best value and wins all the top awards on the Cruise Critic site. Try it again. The big cruise ships don't rock around that much unless you catch a hurricane. They have huge stabilizers that go out from the ship to reduce the turbulence.

Well, we're not "label" type folks and never had either a Lexus nor a Yugo.
We have a new Lincoln sedan and a Chrysler S.U.V.

We actually own our own pleasure boat......but as I said in another post, prefer to spend our vacation money in other ways......but thanks for your tips. Appreciate it. Cruising would not be our first choice of a vacation; we only use boats to get from point A to point B if necessary.......

The ship from Portland Maine to Yarmouth Nova Scotia was the Scotia Prince. Thankfully, now there is a "bridge" from New Brunswick to Prince Edward Island.........

I just looked up the SCOTIA PRINCE and am not really surprised that it is now GONE.

WOW........it’s gone to the scrap heap. Should have gone sooner. All I could think of was us drowning............

In later years we just "drove around" and then the Confederation Bridge was finished....so that made the trip even easier........

My wife & I have never had any desire to go on a cruise, and so this doesn't do anything for us one way or the other.

As far as the law suit thing...I just can't think that way. I wasn't brought up to think that way. Somehow as a people we've come to think that we have a right to be protected from all of life's disappointments and if things go wrong then we've been led to believe that somebody has to pay. I think that's nonsense. Sure..if the captain was drunk on duty or if Carnival & The Captain KNOWINGLY put out to sea in a boat what was KNOWN not to be seaworthy, then we're talking something entirely different. Then you're talking about criminal negligence. That's different.

Would I be very disappointed if my vacation was ruined? Absolutely! Has Carnival acted decently by refunding their money, giving them a free pass for another cruise and paying for lodging and other expenses? Yes. If we were on that cruise would we sue them? No. Sewage happens.
