What's up with this forum??
TOTV used to be a friendly forum where a lot of good information was found and folks were friendly with one another. It's changed a lot and a lot of folks are rude and downright mean with their comments. It's not very enjoyable anymore. Is this a seasonal problem?? .......or, what's up??

BTW I just do not see what you are seeing. |
Go to a thread such as "breakers tripping" and you will find a lot of good information. I could names many others too. Sometimes "things" get a little heated regarding certain topics but the moderator does a pretty good job keeping "things" civil. Nothing wrong with different opinions----information and facts along with informed opinion is what this forum is about.

I'm a Villagers wannabe and I have received much valuable information and kindness here in the last couple of months. I love TOTV and its members!!
|
I have noticed these things tend to run in cycles. Eventually, it all straights itself out and sometimes the moderator has to step in. If one takes a certain amount off care to clearly present what they are trying to impart, it usually is well received.
There are so many wonderful, smart people on this forum that usually agree to disagree respectfully. I present my point of view in a non confrontational manner and I don't let anyone rent space in my head. Life is too short to be too little. |

However, I can handle direct well. Direct but not rude or edgy fosters better communications. To some direct equates to mean. |

Please don't tar a great forum because of a very very small number of incidents that don't measure OK on someone's "agree" meter!

Idk

This is the most friendly forum of the several that I belong to. I don't know what you're talking about.
|
There's never been a forum that didn't have a small number of constant complainers, seeing the negative in everything. The percentage is smaller in ToTV than any other forum I've seen.

Some like to say they are "direct", not "rude", but in the world of the written word, perception is everything and these "direct" posters need more than a little introspection. A simple rule of thumb for posters on here is to Say Nothing Anonymously That You Would Not Say Face To Face. |

Sooner or later you will recognize their avatar name (ahead of time) so, if they really get under your skin, you can choose to skip over their posts, or block them from your screen, for your own comfort level. The administration also provides a flagging option ( red triangle) where by a particular post will be reviewed and dealt with if need be. Sometimes certain topics will trigger frustration out there. Sometimes posters aren't looking for civil discourse, they just want to tell others how it should be. Period. That is diversity. That is the contrast from which new thought springs forth. Not every child plays nice on the playground, even if they know how to do so. Be of good cheer. Don't let the turkeys (and some may feel I'm one!) get you down ... and all that kind of stuff. Don't hesitate to post, for there IS much to be enjoyed on this forum. :) |

I have seen a lot of troll post about old people and pets just to reaction. |

And I fall for it every time. I think it is the blonde hair! I think I just did it again about financing a house here. Someone please grab me the next time and say Goodnight Gracie or BOP me. I am so in awe of the posts above this one. JustJIm, 2BNTV, Dreamer 61, Rubicon,Indy Deal Maker and Uptown Girl and Cisco Kid and Golfing nut and Winston Boogie and CQuick and billethekid and Simpklin and SDavis and of course YOU, Gerry Ann. All of you are thoughtful and very fair people who always say things that difuse problems and clarify situations. If any of you post anything, I know it is valid information that I can trust and it always is helpful! |

Gracie I posted this below one of them but it was removed. My bad. It is directed at the poster not the post topic. I am still learning the rules. I am slow. |

If you see a post that violates the site guidelines (see site navigation in the upper left tower) please click on the red triangle in the upper right of that post and you can send it to us for review and help be a part of helping to improve the site.
Also, if there is a poster(s) that you consistently do not care to hear their comments you can put them on your ignore list by clicking on USERCP >Settings & Options > Edit Ignore list. Thanks to everyone who by and large offer so much to this forum! |
If you have ever read readers' comments after articles in, say, the NYT, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, NPR, you would be astounded at the level of rudeness and flaming that takes place. And these are top-class publications. A lot of other sites (reddit, for instance) have the same nasty flavor. I believe the anonymity brings out the worst in the posters on the above places, and perhaps a bit of that happens on TOTV too.
But TOTV is very mild compared to any other forum I've visited. Just ignore the crabbies and enjoy the rest. |
CFrance. I was just investigating the meaning of flaming on the internet and of being a troll.
I think a lot of us react to a topic that is sometimes only a deliberate attempt of a new poster to "get things going". Many people wish to remain anonymous on a public forum because of a fear of ....a lot of things, but usually normal, friendly people will post some kind of avatar, of a flower or puppy, or tell things about them that will give some clue as to whether they are moving from Ohio or live in Tamarind Grove and whether they are a golfer and want to buy a villa etc.etc.etc. When a new poster hits the forum with a real jab against something, my "hinky meter" goes on ...(That is what Patty says anyway) And as Judge Judy says, when it just doesn't sound right, it probably is a lie. It takes a lot to pull the wool over the eyes of us very smart seniors but some people sometimes.....with young sounding names just love to do it. I think I was suckered in this morning and yesterday for sure. You lives and you learns. I am going shopping and I am gonna buy me a new squirt gun. |

Do not feed trolls is the very hard lesson I learned. Ignore them in other words. |
I've been on threads where people get ugly. The moderators usually step in, but not always before you see people throwing darts at each other. People are still people, even in paradise. But there is so much positive in TV that a few bad apples don't spoil the whole bunch.
|
Just my 2 cents worth.
I have been on here since July and have received A LOT of good information. There are, of course, certain topics that I have my own strong opinions on but everyone is entitled to theirs even though I may vehemently disagree. I believe MOST people try to state their case in a persuasive, intelligent manner and try not to be rude. SOME JUST CAN'T OR WILL NOT ! |
This forum has been a Godsend to me. I joined six years ago before I purchased and I can't begin to tell you all that I learned in those years. Even now when I'm stumped by something I ask the question on the appopriate topic and inevitably I receive the answer I was looking for. When I joined there was a lot going on and people were sparring and being baned from the forum. Every now and then a troll sneaks by and shakes thing up a bit but that can be fun too.:evil6: This Admin keeps on top of contentious posts and shuts them down pronto. I have absolutely no complaints and only praise for TOTV and the Admin.
