I don't know much about Hugo Chavez but the little I read seems to indicate he is not high on my list for Mr. Nice Guy.

Mack184 03-05-2013 08:38 PM

Good riddance!

Really? Hoping Joe's Oil program continues and some explanation on your part why dancing peppers are appropriate when a man dies. Your Government has determined he was evil. Can you back that up? What harm did he do to us? Help me understand.

I watch the news.

Plus I have seen several interviews of him. Maybe 5 or 6 interviews total. Yup, he was a hater of America, no doubt about it.

PBS. Not that it matters, an interview is an interview, his words were his words, it doesn't matter who owns the camera. Are you a Chavez lover? You seem defensive.

USSGompers 03-05-2013 09:36 PM

Okay, I will bite. He was a Communist and I am here in the USA, trying to protect us, spending 12 yrs in the US Navy. Six yrs on my ship looking after us and our well-being. Do you not realize what you are talking about????

I think he destroyed his country and made it much worse for his people. I for one have not shed any tears on his passing.

Chavez and his country contributed a lot of heating oil to the Northeast USA for distribution to those who cannot afford it. American companies would not do it. Chavez made Venenzuela a more literate country and more prosperous than it had been before he came. Chavez called George W. Bush "the devil".

How many of the forum posters would have allowed Hugo Chavez to come to the USA for his cancer treatments that may have saved his life?

mulligan 03-08-2013 08:04 AM

Not me. Take care of AMERICANS FIRST.

Geewiz 03-08-2013 08:24 AM

Chavez used populist hatred of the US for his own political benefit (and much of the third world does hate us). While Chavez didn't like us, he didn't cut off the flow of oil - that he could have easily sold to China.

While Chavez wasn't a "good guy" - at least he didn't engage in crucifixion like our pals in Saudi Arabia.

When it comes to oil - we will get in bed with any regime that will feed our thirst and look the other way when they engage in genocide.

I am not saying Chavez was a good guy - but, he was far from being the worst - actually when he insulted us...he kinda had a sense of humor about it. The whole "Bush as the devil" thing was pretty funny whether you agreed with his assessment or not.

I think the man was GREAT ---- thank you - I do not believe the Americana propaganda -- I do not believe everything I read by the American press-- I am also happy to see Cuba is still alive and well after 50 years of the giant trying to crush ant - they probably dont have welfare and food stamps - why do you think they all (some) want to come to America - send them to North Dakota and see how many want to stay

Your comment makes me wonder why you choose to stay if here if you think their leaders are so great???

Obviously you have never known anyone who fled these totalitarian, torturous regimes.

"...What do 70,000 unsolved murders look like? That’s what Venezuelans tried to show today in a unique and passionate protest in Caracas.

The most visible legacy of Hugo Chavez’s regime is murder. As the entire governmental infrastructure becomes politicized, one hard hit section is the police. Bad cops, so long as they are Chavistically loyal, are the ones hired, while the ethical cops get thrown out. Not only that, the government is focusing its resources on prosecuting political, not criminal, cases. That leaves the cops who could make a difference out of luck.

Lastly, Chavez encourages lawlessness, telling people that to steal is all right, so long as it is for food. It doesn’t take long for a slippery slope to come down when the government itself endorses theft against private property. Like the Argentine Dirty War generals, whose attack on private property rapidly became mass murder and then an invasion of other lands, the Chavista slippery slope has rapidly advanced.

Crime is out of control in Caracas. One neighborhood, that’s right, neighborhood, I visited in Caracas, called Catia, had 563 unsolved murders in one year. More than one a day in one barrio!

People are fed up. Little different from the legacy of Fidel Castro, Chavismo’s consolidation of power is being accompanied by an orgy of murder.
Venezuelans are taking to the streets in their thousands to stop it....."

American oil companies did not contribute free heating oil to Americans in the NorthEast who did not have enough money to pay. Chavez did! I believe the number I heard was a half billion dollars of Venenuala oil was contributed to the Americans in the NorthEast US by Chavez.

Why did a dictatorship have to do this and not our own oil companies? Makes one wonder, doesn't it?

They did it so folks would believe they are the good guy - believe me it wasn't from the bottom of their heart. It was a calculated move and from some of these posts it apparently worked.

Remember, Chavez stole the American oil companies properties in Venezuala. He owned all the oil companies, CITGO, was his company, (remember it was Cities Service?)

I'm glad he's gone. He was a socialist thug, an anti-capitalist. For having so much oil you would think the country would be rich by now, but they are not. Although, he himself accumulated a lot of wealth. It was money he confiscated from others by taking over their businesses. Socialism only works for the benefit of dictators.

happy employee 03-08-2013 02:18 PM

I still won't purchase CITGO gas. Until they prove they are more American friendly.

Amen.

Socialism also works for the equal disribution of misery (except to the communist party bosses.....does that sound familiar?).

Heartnsoul 03-08-2013 05:55 PM

Great news!! One less DICTATOR to deal with!! Now if we can only get rid of a few more

Nitehawk, Why are you living in this country? I'm sure you'd be more happy living in Islamic or communist countries. I have no doubt that you are being watched and are on the radar of home security.

No, it does not sound familiar. Please expound on your mis-spelled statement.
