How you can tell a NEW Villager.

Help me here, let's poke a little fun at the wonderful new folks joining us every day here in this wonderful place. ADD something...and to the new people. We love you and we are glad you are here and it seems like only yesterday it was us...and in some cases it was...

How you can identify a new Villager.

Their golf cart is parked to the side of the path and they are looking at a map.

They wear "out to dinner" clothes out to dinner.

The girls still have long hair and have not yet got the "golf cart short hair cut".

Jump in Y'all.

asianthree 03-08-2013 08:22 AM

in the store buying everything mops, cleaning supplies, towels...the check out girl knew i was newbie and asked what village, and welcome

Bill-n-Brillo 03-08-2013 08:23 AM

The new folks are the ones with no checks left in the checkbook......

Bill :)

capecodkev 03-08-2013 08:24 AM

I can see this will be of great help for when we do move there! I don't want to stick out like a soar thumb too much.

NotGolfer 03-08-2013 08:25 AM

"How to you get to_____(fill in the blank)??? Just the other day someone was asked..."how do you get to Brownwood?

kittygilchrist 03-08-2013 08:40 AM

haha! Gracie, I'm about to be new in TV and recently during a month of renting at TV, I parked the golf cart on the path while collecting the beautiful red seed pods on koontie plants. It was clear that this was not normal behavior because other carts kept pausing to ask if I was OK. I realize now that having others see me bent over in the bushes might not be the best way to introduce myself!

skyguy79 03-08-2013 08:44 AM

You can tell by the women who have rope burns on their wrists from being tied up by their husbands to keep them from going out and spending all their money... or visa-verse! :coolsmiley::1rotfl:

A-4 Skyhawk 03-08-2013 09:09 AM

Their legs and bald spots are lacking a good tan.

AGREE! No matter how tanned you are when you arrive, you are not Florida tanned, but you will be.

jnieman 03-08-2013 09:21 AM

They speed through the yield sign on the roundabout without slowing down and without even looking.

KayakerNC 03-08-2013 09:26 AM

They complain about the heat on a cool 80 degree day.
Or, on a really cold Florida day, they say, "Cold? This ain't cold. Why, back home this would be......."

Great.

The really new ones are the ones who don't even have checks (so yesterday).

Russ_Boston 03-08-2013 09:34 AM

"How do you get back to Morris blvd?"

or

"How late is SumPter landing open?"

Either that or they come to a complete stop at the traffic circle waiting for a light to turn green.

Making a left hand turn from the center lane from Morse or Buena Vista onto 466 or 466a. I have seen this so many times I thought is might be a new Florida driving law that I was unaware of. I have found only one or two intersections that allow for two lane let turns.

Yup, guilty as charged last Feb. Except the checks part. But the map looking and the dining clothes, ding, ding, ding! You got me. :MOJE_whot:

ilovetv 03-08-2013 10:19 AM

They say with a wide-eyed look, "Toto, I have a feeling we're not in Florida anymore......"

I think this is a perfect description of far too many residents but does point out that whether new or not that is how they still enter a traffic circle!!!

Moral of story - Don't bring checks? :D

Joe

janmcn 03-08-2013 11:09 AM

While line dancing, a newbie goes right when everybody else goes left.

2BNTV 03-08-2013 11:31 AM

You can spot a newbie when they miss the golf cart path and wind-up on a road. :22yikes:

jblum315 03-08-2013 12:45 PM

It's February and they're wearing long pants

dengid 03-08-2013 12:59 PM

No, they are the ones wearing shorts....and have the sides up on their golf cart on cold mornings.

howardandsheila 03-08-2013 01:04 PM

Hey you guys, in 7 days, I will resemble these comments. Can't wait!!!

Villages PL 03-08-2013 01:07 PM

Along Belvedere Blvd., near the Villages Library, I have seen small sub-compact cars driving on the golf-cart path. And I once saw a golf cart driving down the sidewalk going East on Par Drive. Boy, talk about being new in The Villages. It doesn't get any better than that.

jdsl1998 03-08-2013 01:30 PM

wide eyed wonderment! I love to sit at the square and watch them, they are just so dang cute!

capecodkev 03-08-2013 01:35 PM

So how long does it take everyone to get aclimated so you don't look lost all the time?

rubicon 03-08-2013 01:48 PM

Well I have lived here 6 yars nd I still do mny of those newbie things, except drive my car onto a golf cart path. boy its great to be the perpetual newbie:MOJE_whot:

njbchbum 03-08-2013 02:02 PM

newbies go to the squares in the evening...and when they go there they don't save seats

they come on totv and post 'electric or gas' or 'cable/internet'

they don't yard sail to look for home accents

they don't think it is too far to drive from south of 466a to sweetbay or southern trace shopping centers/restaurants!

Rickg 03-08-2013 02:14 PM

:gc::gc:Ruff group... I'm going to wear sunglasses and a hat until I know all the ins and outs.

redwitch 03-08-2013 02:59 PM

They join every club they can and go to every meeting/event/social there is.

Does take some time to get used to TV's lifestyle and truly relax and enjoy it.

Steve & Deanna 03-08-2013 03:09 PM

A newbie just asked us while in Brownwood, where is a good restaurant in The Villages. We had to tell her that we've yet to have a bad meal anywhere, but we ate at Glenview recently and we thought they may have run out of food as were deciding where to go next to finish lunch. Guess we've been so fortunate 'cause we're so blessed.

Skybo 03-08-2013 03:33 PM

I’ve lived here just under two years and still consider myself somewhat of a newbie. I have TV maps in my house, car and golf carts, and still have to pull them out on occasion. I don’t go to the squares as frequently as I did when I first moved here, but I still love going to the squares. I am still amazed at the beauty, cleanliness, friendliness, and the opportunity for activities here. I still occasionally under-dress or over-dress for the weather/occasion. I still make mistakes, but I also still wake up with a smile on my face and peace in my heart every morning.

And I’ve just realized that I used the word “still” in every sentence, including this one. lol

I hope to keep feeling like a newbie for a long time...still.

manaboutown 03-08-2013 05:22 PM

They show up at the Publix in Colony Plaza after 9:00 p.m. expecting it to be open. They are shocked to see a sign advertising Happy Hours starting at 3:00 p.m. and beautiful custom golf cars parked on streets and in parking lots. They do not know why the map of The Villages has a huge white blank space near its center. Their clothing stands out in the crowds at SS and SL. They want to pet and feed the alligators.

Mudder 03-08-2013 07:26 PM

They show up for a line dancing class 5 minutes before it starts and expect to get in .

graciegirl 03-08-2013 07:27 PM

They wear heels.

Boy do I remember doing that, only Colony Plaza was only a twinkle in Gary Morse's eye back then. (And it wasn't that long ago!)

Newbies haven't figured out that dinner time is 4:30. (It's really 5:00 but you have to get there at 4:30, they show up at 5:30 and can't figure out why there is a 60 minute wait.)
