27 /441 Cart Crossing.
I believe it was in tuesdays Daily Sun I read that the Florida Department of transportation or some state authority named like that evaluated the possiblity of a golf cart crossing 27/441 at Buenas Aries and determined it to be a good location and was wondering what other steps would have to be taken and what other villagers thought about the move.

Did they say When?
I can't wait, No more "bumpy trails to you"....My logic, if handicap scooters, pedestrians and bicycles can cross, why not golf carts, just be careful!.....Yea!
|
I was under the impression that only street legal carts could be on Buenas Aries or El Caminio. If it is a done deal I hope the traffic signal system be designed for it.

I believe that it is the intersection at McDonalds or it is the one at Dell Webb.

Great long overdo.

Oh, ah ok. I thought the crossing mentioned was the one that would shoot you directly into Lowes, cracker barrel. My mistake.

We own an LSV cart and have crossed 441 several times...at lights, it's no different than "if" you are in a car. The cross-traffic has already stopped so there wouldn't be any "light runners". Only thing that might be dangerous is the left-turning folks who don't comply with the law of vehicles going straight. IMHO...it's more dangerous to be out on the 35mph or lower roads where some folks don't know what the laws are and don't drive defensively.

No..mixing non-street legal carts and cars & trucks at a major highway intersection is a recipe for disaster. |

THE STORY IN THE PAPER STATED - MARION CO. APPROVED CROSSING 27/441 at S.E. 176. THAT IS NORTH OF WALMART AT STONE CREST. |

I've driven an LSV across 441. I feel about as safe crossing 441 as I do going over the bridge. Both are hazardous; both require that you be extremely vigilant. Of the two, I think I'm safer on the street than on the bridge -- at least there's some room to maneuver on 441, plus I can see the traffic and see if vehicles have stopped. There's no room to get out of the way on the bridge and no way to see what's coming from the opposite direction when a drunk drives down the middle and coasts going downhill while halfway up the hill. Very scary!!! |

The crossing approved, is the intersection at the entrance of Spruce Creek South and Sun Trust bank, just after Stonecrest.
It is a very safe crossing, been crossing there for 8 years. The intersection at McDonalds was not approved, due to congestion. |
Once you get across 441/27 from Spruce Creek South to the east side by Sun Trust, can you legally drive your golf cart on the frontage roads to get to Stonecrest, Walmart and points south? Since the west side of the crossing is the controlled entrance gate to Spruce Creek South, is the 441/27 crossing only for Spruce Creek South residents and guests?
Can golf carts legally exit the Spruce Creek South gate near the Urgent Care and access the stores and restaurants by McDonalds/CVS? . |

I'm hoping once the construction by Lowes and Cracker Barrel is completed and the access road completed thru to the medical buildings the bumpy back trail I nicknamed the Mohave trek will go bye bye!
|
How come there are two "Spruce Creek" developments within 5 miles of each other?

I named it the Ho Chi Minh Trail. When the construction is complete south of Lowe's there will be a paved cart path and when Walmart and Progress Energy come to terms that portion will also be improved. . |

The highlighting is mine. 320.01 Definitions, general.—As used in the Florida Statutes, except as otherwise provided, the term: (1) “Motor vehicle” means: (a) An automobile, motorcycle, truck, trailer, semitrailer, truck tractor and semitrailer combination, or any other vehicle operated on the roads of this state, used to transport persons or property, and propelled by power other than muscular power, but the term does not include traction engines, road rollers, special mobile equipment as defined in s. 316.003(48), vehicles that run only upon a track, bicycles, swamp buggies, or mopeds. |
Ask and ye shall receive. Thanks for the post, downeaster.

It seems to me that because of The Villages and the proliferation of golf carts and encouragement of their use (and also special lanes and roadways for them) that tunnels and bridges should be mandatory over/under major roadways. As far as underwriting the costs of these infrastructural changes, because The Villages have caused the need for these improvements, it is only logical that the Developer should be liable for these projects. Just as Impact Fees may be imposed when large projects 'impact' a community, so should they be levied here.
|
"Private Community" does NOT apply to TV since TV is not fully gated and makes use of state, county & municipal roadways within it's boundaries.
Florida State Regulations for Golf Carts | GolfLink.com |
You are right Mack184, it is NOT a private community and they are public roads. And by your own reference, the road has previously been designated for their use, which makes the golf carts, in your terms, road-able vehicles since they have lights and reflectors, etc., according to FL State law. It says NOTHING about they need to be insured for travel on The Villages streets.

You stated "Golf carts are NOT road vehicles and thus do not have "road rights"." Some clarification on your part may help. |
