Villages Crime Scene

Does anyone know what happened in the park across from Sonnys in Sumter Landing this morning. Sheriffs dept had a spot taped off with crime scene tape next to the little pond. Crime scene techs were there with rubber gloves on, taking pictures this morning around 11.

Saw 4 police cars parked in the grass there this morning as we went into Toojays. Didn't know the reason, though.

My husband saw several police searching the field in that area, that was around 10:30 this morning. We always walk our dog around that walkway. It will be in the news for sure, this is the villages.

TOMCAT 04-07-2013 07:47 PM

Hoping it isn't something very serious. The Villages seems like a safe and peaceful town when I was there, but anything can happen anywhere one time or another!

DEWRDW 04-08-2013 06:22 AM

Did anyone see anything in the paper this morning? I didn't!

gocubsgo 04-08-2013 06:28 AM

It won't be in the paper...whatever it was is negative and won't sell houses. Look for it in the Leesburg paper maybe.

graciegirl 04-08-2013 06:43 AM

Is that park the childrens playground?

Now I am all paranoid. There ARE several sex offenders living here.

I just checked the breaking news in Orlando Sentinel, Ocala newspaper, Leesburg paper, and local television channels.......NOTHING.

Could it have been a "practice" ???? In our town, they sometimes role play a disaster to keep the response teams sharp.

It doesn't sound like a practice......but I can't find anything in the news.
I hope it wasn't a crime.

When the Leesburg paper first came up, there was a teenager who had drowned in a pond......but the paper didn't seem to be FLORIDA even though I had typed in Leesburg, Florida newspaper breaking news, etc.

TOMCAT 04-08-2013 06:56 AM

Could it be an alligator sighting??

Could very well be an alligator sighting.........that had entered my mind as well.

There is nothing in the bigger newspapers.....or on television.

If it was a murder, or a body was found....it would be on local television......

Watch for it in the Daily Sun, as they report what is verified by police. Not rumor gossip, but verified news, good and bad.

Can you wager a guestimate as to how long it might take to get onto television news? Up here, even in a tiny town, if a murder had occurred or even just an accident, the Albany New York t.v. news team would send out a truck with reporters, camera crew etc. immediately......they cover Vermont.

Apparently this happened two days ago????? Someone said it was NOT in The Villages Daily Sun (which we enjoyed tremendously while there).

Golfingnut 04-08-2013 07:40 AM

We don't know at this time even if a crime was committed. This is similar to folks slowing down on the highway to a crawl and gawking at an accident. What are those folks looking for, perhaps an arm or even a severed head lying in the ditch. I guess it falls into the fact that it takes all kinds to make a world revolve.

I like a good comedy movie, where some prefer the blood and guts of violence on the big screen. OH WELL>

It apparently happened late last night or very early this morning.

Do Alligators get all romantic in APRIL? I thought it was May.

I hope it was just an alligator.

If I call the Daily Sun one more time they will hang up on me. I don't think they like to be...what is the word when someone else does a story before you do??

Scooped! Probably a dog peeing on Harold's statute or pooping on it. They had to track it down and get the DNA.

Gators get romantic whenever they want to, because no-one is going to step in and interfere.

Tal usually knows what is happening. I'm sure he will let us know if it appears anywhere on a police record.

Sanibel7 04-08-2013 10:01 AM

actually they found a missing sand trap machine form one of the country clubs in the weeds that was missing for 6 days

The word is "scooped" and yes, they hate it.

Are you kidding? What is a sand trap machine? The only thing I can think of is one of those pull behind the tractors raker things.

Certainly they wouldn't put up crime scene tape for that.

You were kidding weren't you.

I hope no little one has been harmed.

I hope it wasn't anything awful.

Before the conspiracy theorists, and rumor mongers are done with this, I'm sure it will ramp up to "the sky is falling"

Old' folks curious

Hey, us ol' folks like to know what's going on----when we are not playing golf, softball, pickelball or attending something else important. Many came from places where reporters were there almost before "it" happen. TOTV needs it own reporter......or do we?

[QUOTE=TOMCAT;655889]Could it be an alligator sighting??[/QUOTEIf it was an alligator the Animal Rescue Control would've been there to "apprehend" it....:police:

Geewiz 04-08-2013 04:47 PM

Wild zebras run a muck in LSL looking for the Morse family who are in Trump Towers NYC researching everyones'' birth cert and telling Gery Busey he's not crazy...while Da Mayor bans cured meat causing 15 delis to go into bankruptcy.

Yes, I thought of that too. But I was thinking maybe the police want to verify if it really was a alligator that might have be sighted and if it was, then call Animal Rescue. Whatever it was, it seems to be not that important, because no one heard anything yet.

tucson 04-08-2013 05:19 PM

If there was something illegal there, it will probably be "hush-hush" while they're doing an investigation. I do know for a fact that when it is a gator gone astray that it's always the Animal Control that comes out to investigate it.

paulandjean 04-08-2013 06:19 PM

Wonder if the gator, respects the yellow crime tape. Never seen crime tape used looking for a gator.Maybe connected to the turtle and squirrel being run over this morning.

Raen Dear 04-08-2013 06:35 PM

Need TOTV Reporter

I nominate geewiz. Even if wrong, the news would be funny.:police:police:

Several?????? there are at least 30, maybe 50 if you take in Lady Lake and Summerfield. I review the list several times yearly. I have seven within two miles of my home.

Hey Warren
You must be from the planet called TACTLESS. Absolutely no reason to respond like that.
Take it slow cause life is getting shorter.

Yes I am. I read about crime in the daily sun all the time. They do not report rumors, but they do report what the police and fire department verify as fact.

Yes, the Villages is very safe but things can and do happen here too.
This link is of a man arrested in that very childrens park. It happened in August.

Thank you for this bit of news. One of the first things I noticed a few years back was the sex offenders living in The Villages......if you read it, most of them go after, or "went after" young girls.......not retired middle aged or elderly women.

Having a beautiful 18 year old grand daughter who would indeed be visiting us, plus a lovely 8 year old grand daughter , as well as two "baby" grand daughters.........I would be concerned that these sexual predators are "out and about". The babies and 8 year old wouldn't be out "alone" but the 18 year old might be out jogging, etc .
Not to forget our 11 year old grandson.........some of these perverts don't care at all.......

I had most recently pointed out to my husband the playground area in question as a nice location (any of the nearby villages) to purchase a home.......as the Lake Sumter Landing area was my all time favorite.....it's all nice, but I just liked it there.....or Virginia Trace area, Village of Caroline, etc., Creekside Landing area.......or right around Lake Sumter Landing.

Again, I for one.......do appreciate your re-posting that link......
Thank you. Concerned grandparents have a need to know.

Anyone know what they eventually found in that pond??????????
Thanks in advance.
