Does your neighborhood have an AED?
I understand that there are 73 AED neighborhoods in TV. (Automatic External Defibrilator). Does your neighborhood have this program? If so, please tell the pros and cons and if it has been successful.

We have 2 in our area of Buttonwood. Can't say if it has been successful, since it has not had to be used. And hopefully it never will.

We have 2 on our street that has 65 houses. The other 4 streets in our section of Caroline, 65 homes total on those streets, 2 more. We have not had to use them, so, far, thankfully. They've been in place for a few years now. One is attached to my house as a matter of fact.

We just today completed our initial fundraising for 7 AED machines for our Village neighborhood. We raised $15,670 in 2 1/2 weeks from 40% of our villa neighborhood. We will be the largest AED program in The Villages. I expect it to be a wonderful investment in being a proactive intervention should any of our precious neighbors need it. Our next step will be a call fo volunteer responders and then training in CPR and AED implementation. We are also having a community informational meeting for anyone who wants to attend from our Village neighborhood. Captain Gail Lazenby is a wealth of information and a wonderful leader in this effort.

My parents contributed for one in Sanibel. Some don't think it's necessary. Thank all the folks that have begun these programs!:BigApplause:

Just remember someone needs to do CPR while waiting for someone to bring the AED...take a life saving course...for those who have had to do CPR for real its not easy...
|
YES. We have 3 in MacClenny at Fernandina.

We are in the process of having them installed in Hadley on Lacrosse/Edmonton. Havanna already has them. Am so appreciative of the gentleman that has co-ordinated this program, but baffled by the lack of financial support on the 2 streets. Two streets were combined to make it work financially. I understand the response time on Havanna during the drills is phenomenal - don't know if they have had to use the AED at this point.

The Villages provides the CPR and AED training for free to all responders. It also stymies me why some people do not see the amazing benefit of this program if it can save one life. I am very proud of the 40% of Haciendas of Mission Hills neighborhood who in 2 1/2 weeks responded to my request for support and we raised enough to purchase the equipment we need and surpassed our initial goal of $15,330. It is overwhelmingly emotional to me to see such amazing caring for one's fellow person. I love my neighbors.

I know it has been in the Daily Sun but I do not remember. What is the cost to have the AED's installed in a neighborhood and how many of the residents of the immediate area of the AED have to have had the training in both the AED and the CPR before they can be installed?

The units themselves are approx. $1000 each. |

i was wondering if they would be a help considering how efficient our 911 service is?
|
Target response time for neighborhood AED's is I believe under 2 minutes. When you are talking a heart attack - seconds count - so yes they are efficient.
|
Our neighborhood in Mallory have two AEDs and we have received CPR and AED training along with additional training follow-ups. As far as as how efficienit, it is a fact that the sooner CPR is started the better the chance of survival. So, if a neighbor can get to someone sooner than 911 services the greater the chance of survival especially with an AED brought to the patient. Well worth the investment.

Every minute after a respiratory/coronary attack you lose 10% of your chance to live. 911 is excellent, but sometimes they are out at another call so you the response may not come from your closest emergency center. The AED program provides CPR by a trained neighbor responder until another trained neighbor responder comes with the AED. This can be a life saver until the medics arrive and take over. You hope you never need it, but it is a reasonably priced life insurance policy to have at your access in your neighbobrhood. We all have our activities, meals out, Happy Hours, shopping, trips out of the Villages, so many ways we spend our dollars. This is one investment that is long term and life saving. I encourage people to support them in the Village community.

Our neighborhood which is also new has collected the money and several volunteers are ready to be trained. We have 53 homes and will have two units. Not everyone will opt in, but everyone will be protected. When the 911 call comes in, then a call goes out immediately to the trained volunteers in your neighborhood who go to the home and administer chest compressions until the unit is brought from the nearby home. The unit self directs. |
