Dating in the villages

I am considering moving to the villages in the fall from New Hampshire. The Villages appears to have everything, but, in all of the videos I've watched it seems that everyone is married or at least coupled up. Is it difficult for single women - I'm 60 - to meet men to date? So far the only men I've noticed on the dating sites are married, looking for affairs. I would hate to think that is the typical situation in the villages. Call me old fashioned but I would like to think romance can blossom at any age.

It may have to do with life expectancy for men vs women. You may want to PM Chachacha for more insight into the TV singles life

chachacha 04-25-2013 10:22 AM

i think if you read my posts you will see that there is a fun single life here but very hard to meet someone who really wants a serious commitment. lots of dancing, golf etc but the pool of men is about one for every ten women, and they are spoiled by women being the aggressors! :) if you make some good gal friends you will have a nice social life and maybe even find "the one." hope springs eternal!

As a single male in his late sixties I spent a month in The Villages about a year and a half ago. A couple of the wonderful single ladies who post on this forum welcomed me and throughout the month assisted me in getting out and meeting other singles. I also attended meetings of two of the singles clubs. The singles I met of both sexes were quite happy and active. I was very surprised to find there are a large number of singles in TV. Check out the photos on the singles club websites.

On my own I met some couples, too. Just go into a restaurant. Sit down and when the waitress comes to take you order slightly loudly announce to her you are new to TV. Within minutes you will meet at least two couples from nearby tables and enjoy some pleasant conversation with them. You see, practically everyone is from somewhere else and wants to make new friends just as you do. Remarkably, I found the couples I met really did not care whether I was single or married, something I have never experienced elsewhere. Although at present I am tied down by a child's health issue I am still seriously considering becoming a frog.

As far as the ratio of women to men goes I can not say what it might be. Although I rarely disagree with Cha x 3 on anything 10:1 seems over the top to me. By the way, a significant number of the singles I met were in some sort of dating relationship and/or had dance and activity partners. Marriages do occur in TV.

Where do I meet the aggressive women? A nice aggressor with a penchant for modern art and edgy music...along with a good sense of humor would be most welcome. Hey, I just added 3 palm trees to the CYV...this has to be a plus.

MAT - thanks for the tip, I'll have to use it when I get down to TV in August.

Best of luck to you.

Hi Katie

My name is Katie too, and am divorced so I have returned to being a singleton. There are single men in TV. Go to a pool...they will find you. Go to a rec center event, they will find you. Believe it or not, the grocery store is a big one. All your married neighbors will try to set you up on blind dates...I have one that is trying to convince me to go out with her son.......

I hear the singles groups are also a lot of fun, but I have not joined any. But I think I am of the mindset of find yourself some really good friends first that you can have fun with, then work on finding that special guy, or let that special guy find you. BTW...I have found the married people here fantastic, and they are very nice to me and my neighbors are always looking out for me. Even though I am not a part of one of the singles group, I think you would get the biggest exposure in one of those groups.

I too am a little bit old fashioned and Southern...therefore I am not aggressive, when it comes to men. That man has to come looking for me, and be witty, charming and exceptionally polite. Probably a really big order.

Why don't you set up a visit to TV and a few of us can show you around. I don't know any of the other singles on this board, but I don't think any of us bite. Fall is a lovely time in Florida.

There's a nice story in this morning's SUN on the front page about a couple meeting in the Villages.

KathieI 04-26-2013 09:07 AM

Yes, lots of dating goes on here. Over the last 5 years, I have at least 5 or 6 friends that have married and even more who are in a serious relationship. It can happen even at our ripe old ages...

And then there are those of us (meeeee!!) who is extremely happy with my single life here and between single people that I hang with and married couples who I adore,,, we have a grand old time. My major interest is dancing, dancing, dancing,,, and karaoke of course.

Come have some fun with us and when you set your dates, let Chachacha or I know and one of us will bring you around to meet the troops.

Midvale 04-26-2013 09:27 AM

Yikes! 10 to 1!? I should really move down there.

katerogers 04-26-2013 11:00 AM

Thanks everyone...

I have to say that your responses to my thread make me realize that making this leap of faith might be the best decision I've made in a long time. You are all so friendly and helpful. I think I'm about to enter the world of the 'Golden Girls', although Blanche Devereaux I'm not, so I'm more likely to be intimidated by these aggressive women than to emulate them. It was also nice to get the male perspective of this phenomenon- that is dating in the Villages. Apparently they have yet to experience their being in such demand. It's just good to know that making friends, both male and female, will be relatively easy if I'm willing to make the effort.

Well, i have been a widow for over 30 years and have lived in the Villages for 13 years. Best move I ever made. Lots to do, lots of single people, many, many clubs, come on down. I really think you will love it.

I wouldn't discount the possibility of marriage. Two sets of our neighbors are newly weds, and we have several sets of friends that met in The Villages and married here. I have several single friends who seem to love their single lives down here - there are many opportunities for socialization that don't require being part of a couple. With all the thousands of clubs available, there is no excuse to be sitting home alone.

daxx12 05-20-2013 07:24 PM

friends first?

I moved to the villages last Nov. as a single person and still single. I would not consider moving here for the prime purpose of dating men. I came here to find girlfriends and fun activities to do. I'm afraid to say the ratio is many many more women then men. Objective should be to be active, play tennis, etc. etc. and meet friends and if you happen to meet a man and it works great but I wouldn't put my eggs in one basket.

I've only been here one year which has been very busy! You are right that MOST are married or couples. I moved here knowing that but it does feel a little uncomfortable. Good luck on your decision!

As a recently widowed male I came to TV a few years ago and joined a singles club. Made lots of friends, both male and female. Did lots of dating and have been with one woman for over a year. This is a wonderful, and caring, singles community.

I have a gorgeous neighbor who is straight, available, fit, available and as fun as it gets. I love this man. He does NOT have a revolving door on his home or bedroom. BTW, did I mention he is AVAILABLE????

Wow, that is the strangest post I've ever seen and the funniest. Does this poor man know you're pimping for him?

I'm impressed by the kind offers to help others curious about singles here. Nicely done, Villagers, nicely done.
