Hofmann Hot Dogs

Upstate New Yorkers favorite hot dog, HOFMANN'S, is now in our Publix Grocery. Yes, there are Coney's also!

First of all, Hoffman's is only the favorite if you live in Syracuse. The real favorite is Zweigle's, and you can aquire them at Athens' at Spranish Springs. Also, you have to go to SC to get Sahlen's dogs, Buffalo's finest. Sorry, but Hoffman's comes in third. It is better than anything you can get in FL, but still third.

We like the Koegels hot dogs. Very hard to get them unless shipped at an expensive cost. Would be nice to have someone up there coming down to bring us some.

I miss the good ole 'dirty water dogs' from the street vendors in NYC. :pepper2:

Us Jersey Shoreites from NJ were spoiled by Windmill hot dogs. I splurged and had 1 dozen shipped down here and it cost $93. I'm not offering to share them with my friends at that price;)

I'll tell you what, I'm married to a man from Northern New York and I love Hoffman's and I love Ted's in Buffalo. I love salt potatoes and cheese curd. Crogan bologna can't be beat. But you are outta your mind to pay $7.75 a piece for a hot dog. Unless it comes ready made with fries and a shake, no way. PS Don't tell my husband what you did. He'll want to do the same thing. :pepper2:

princesspat 04-30-2013 06:12 PM

Yeah, Hoffmans. I, too, would love salt potatoes. While we're at it how about some Dinosaur BBQ sauce?

drcar 04-30-2013 06:28 PM

Everybody has a favorite depending on where you are from and what you are used to. Being from Maine my favorite is the great natural casing red hot dogs from W.A. Bean from Bangor, Maine. But they need to be nestled into a real frankfort roll, not a mini-sub roll like they are served in most places. I can almost hear the snap when I bite into it.

gatherer47 05-01-2013 12:58 PM

Now I'm drooling for a dog with mustard and pickle from the Oakland Original Hot Dog Shop on the campus of the University Of Pittsburgh.Right in the heart of the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, the "Dirty O" can't be beat. They have those "snappers" when you bite into one.YUM!!!!!
