Jimbo's pool install "All Natural" no chlorine
5 Attachment(s)
Well i started on this idea in Dec., did the ARC stuff took 3 weeks, then building dept 2 more weeks.
Waited for the actual pool.....finally came last Thursday. The crane guy didn't show up:cus: can't let that stop me! A few strong guys is all it takes, |
I had a dig plan but it needed some tweaking, in the meantime I installed the Spa in ground built the forms for the concrete base to build an enclosed pergola rather than a bird cage.
Ran all the electrical and got my first building dept approval Monday. Today did all the plumbing on the pool itself should be ready to drop it in the ground tomorrow or Thursday. Oh fun, I did tweak my knee 2 weeks ago that slowed me down a bit, but it's almost better. In between all this did most of the landscaping. |
wow you are one busy man

Jimbo~~
Thank YOU for posting the photos... In your 'spare' time (LOL!), we would love to keep living vicariously through additional photos. Congrats to you, for your new pool and spa! You have a wonderful summer ahead of you!! Angie |
I agree with Angie, would love to see more photos. You are amazing!
|
TV now allows pergolas and gazebos? Interesting.
|
U can see pergolas in the older sections so not a new deal
|
But you can see lawn flamingos and seven dwarf statues over there too.

You’re over reacting again. My post was not judgmental, just factual. It’s a well known fact that the restrictions in the historical section of TV are more permissive than the newer sections. So it does not necessarily follow that pergolas allowed over there would necessarily be allowed in Jim’s district.
In either case if the pergola was included in his approved ARC plans, there should not be an issue. |
I live south of 466 and I'm starting to see a lot of things, like pergolas and short fences around concrete slabs, etc. that I thought were not authorized. Hope it doesn't get to 6 ft privacy fences.
|
No fences.
|
Just because U see it doesn't mean it was approved
|
Good job!
And in pic #4 I see quite a few new palms on a big new berm. Wonder who did that? We need to see more pics of those, too. |
Haa you caught that did 'ya.
Just about 25 types and 30 planted. Yep we hired a new landscaper took a chance in "Jimbo's landscapes" :beer3: He had the lowest prices in town.......... Also the help of Fl State plant folks which I thank very much for their help in design and approvals with ARC and a unique design. |

Pool dropped in place

It took 4 tries to get it just right.
Pool & rocks took just under 2 hours, not bad for my first pool. Amazingly it was level without any adjustment. |

While the crane was there I had two huge rocks to locate.
One was 1850lbs the other 725. Cathy tied the knots (sailing exp helped) |
Jimbo. You are somethin' else.
I just saw that solar airplane and thought of you. Too bad you didn't think of it first. You are on the cutting edge. The reason I like you is that you aren't afraid of work and doing things yourself and you are a thrifty guy and you are always thinking outside the box. I may not always agree with you, but I admire you for sure. |
Is this the project on Hillsborough off Anna Marie.
We wondered what was going on? |
yes, stop by and say hello anytime
|
Jim,
What an impressive job that you are doing. Like Sinatra sang, I did it my way...... |
Okay...when's the christening???? I copied A-4 and went out to get a speedo this afternoon after seeing the install. Looks wonderful!
|
Please don't tell my mother I asked this impertinent question, but nosey me wants to know about what percentage you saved and pocketed with the pool doing it "your way".
I LOVE saving money. You never know when you'll need it. |
Water
Hey Solar Bob . . . . . you got water in the beast yet? The Mayor, me, and 3 others have new speedo's we're ready to try out.

Concrete work

The way these trucks work they charge a delivery fee of $125 for anything under 5 yards.
I needed about 2.75 for the pergola foundation steps and pump platform. A few weeks ago we were driving around the premier homes a new area and saw there were several with front patio's, I measured them and promised Cathy she could have it just needed to move some bushes around slap a 2x4 form and throw in the concrete. So I got 5 yards from Evans (best price) for just under $500, I could have had 2.75 yards for $400. So it was almost free. Here's a pic just roughing in the knee high wall. . |
Everything looks like it really moving along Jimbo. Pond, wall, pool? You are amazing!
I love to here the trickling water from a pond or water feature. Keep the pictures coming. |
I agree w Angie
Love the pics and ENJOY!!!!!!! |
Ok- I would love to hear how this pool is going to be maintained. You say "no chlorine", will you need other chemicals? Do you expect to need algacide? I am surmising the pond is involved since you are building both at the same time. Is the pool small enough to empty and refill periodically? Will you have solar heat? Thanks so much, I am very interested in how this will work.

I have two solar systems, one with 4 panels that R usually used for residential hot water - these will heat the spa. Another system with 6 panels like most U see here in TV, will do the pool hopefully warm enough to swim in mid winter. Also a solar hot water shower will be worked in there. All water in the entire system will be filtered thru my Nova Whole House filter for pure water in pool, pond & spa. . |
Oh the gravel garden not in pics above is crushed sea shells from the beach in Fernandina!!!!
Kinda cool being in the village of the same name. |

I am totally fascinated by your non-chemical pool and am looking forward to hearing how it works out. |
You're on the right trac, but no fish, that would be too much for the bio-load.
The Nova water filter was not selected for pool/pond it is the same size one I installed in about two dozen homes in The Villages and several hundred back in NY. It is however a commercial rather than a residential unit. Assuming the system works to filter as planned with no chemicals I will be offering similar installations starting in October for those wishing to eliminate chemicals in their pools. |

Just picked up all the cypress on Monday, getting ready to erect pergola.
Back fill most of the pool area. In the mean time started to pavers in the lanai which will continue around pool & spa. |
Fabulous!
Quote:
It looks absolutely fabulous! :super: It looks so much bigger now you have the bits and bobs out and the pavers down. Well done. :bigbow: On another topic, which is the smallest airport in NY, JFK or Newark, we are going to fly Millie (and us) into there from the UK, end of August or beginning of September, just looking for flights now. See you soon! :a040: |
Jimbo, do you ever sleep????
