50 Things to Think About Before Buying a Home in The Villages
As I was surfing the web this AM, I came across this paper titled:
50 Things to Think About Before Buying a Home in The Villages, by Parker SykesI went back and looked to see if folks already knew of this, but did not find any reference, so I figured I would share. Sorry if this is old news, it was not for me. I also have yet to read the whole thing, but seems to have many of the items hashed out on TOTV. |
Thanks AJ

Is Parker Sykes a poster on here? |
I have to go golfing now, and only read a few pages, so please do not spoil the ending :1rotfl:
You can actually thank TOTV user paulandjean. I was once again giving Google the wrong keywords to find out the name of the Michigan to ASU football coach that lived in TV and found the paper .... |

My quick research says that Mr Sykes is a villager..... Check this link.... http://www.thevillagesfloridabook.com/50-things/ and... https://plus.google.com/105024752597...58647021/posts |
The website itself has some good articles and an interesting video on new vs resale in addition to the article posted.

These are questions that can be asked almost anywhere whether in TV, FL or another state.
All things that you can ponder. We moved from MI in 2004 to Winter Park and thought we were moving there forever. Then we visited TV ONCE and bought a lot and built our home. Been here since June 2012 and no regrets. Our renters in WP are leaving so we could move back after trying TV. NO WAY. Relisted it and staying here. |
Before I visited The Villages in 2011 I found the predecessor to this questionnaire on the internet and printed it out. I still have it on file. It was very helpful to me in thinking over my retirement plans in general as well as considering The Villages in particular. It is the best preretirement checklist I have come across.
By the way, Mr. Parker Sykes does exist. Thank you Mr. Sykes. |

Just printed it and will read. Thanks AJ.

Well thought out easy read. Seems to take a middle of the road and present both sides of most concerns. Nothing will be a surprise to those who already live here. Even covers dog poop and round-abouts.

Moved here in 2008 the same as us. If he reads this, I wish he would post and tell us if he is still happy. I hope so. |

When I saw this post I did not want to read it. But I knew I would have to so I am now about half way through the article and I read it with one eye kinda closed, you know when you know you are getting ready to open something or read something or get the bill for something you know is not going to be good, that kind of one eye closed.
So far it is mostly what I have expected and things I have asked and thought about. One area that I may not be up to yet or maybe not in the article is if one of the spouses is not as eager to move there as the other one is, but maybe that is just one of the spouses being in Phase 1 still and the other has moved to or started in Phase 2. Good article though. Thanks |
