tainsley 05-23-2013 08:35 AM

Welcome to Tamarind Grove! We have pending on the two CYV in Montbrook. Where did you buy?

Do you play softball? Tamarind Grove has two teams but for this summer we lost about 6 players who were snowbirds. We had to combine with a Liberty Park team that was also shorthanded to field a complete team. TV plays with 11 players on a team.

Which Tamarind Grove CYV community are you in? There are four in Tamarind Grove, I'm in Southern Star. I guess we have more CYV's than most villages because we have no Patio Villas.

Before he can play a game, he has to be evaluated. Every player goes through that before they are allowed on a team. It's held at the Buffalo Glen softball fields near TV High School. Going west on 466 turn left at the light on Totonka, Red Lobster is on the corner.

It held every Tuesday morning at 8am, although they would like you to be there by 7:30. Once you go to your first evaluation, you have a year to finish all three. I found it best to get all three done in a row. They don't have evaluation the last two weeks of August and the first week of September, the fields close for yearly maintenance.

I would recommend first going to the games on Saturday to see if you like what you see. We play at two different complexes, this season we are at Buffalo Glen Fields. This Saturday we play at 9:45 on Field #4. You can go and watch any games, they go from 8:30 to about 2pm every Saturday.

We have about 30 players in Tamarind Grove, but since we have two teams and about ten players are snowbirds, the roster changes season to season. Myself and one other player are the only ones to have played on the same team for Tamarind Grove all five seasons that we have been in existence.

Welcome - you didn't mention which villa community you are moving to in Tamarind Grove or if you're a softball player. In Southern Star Villas there is a furnished 3BR for sale on Nautilus Lane. I saw the listing is now 'Pending', it's three doors down from me. Is that that you're home? I walked through it during open house, the place looked brand new, I liked the hardwood floors in the kitchen and dining room. I also saw the 'Mirror Mate' in the master bath and it gave me the idea to put Mirror Mate in our bathrooms.

There are three social groups that plan get togethers and parties in Tamarind Grove. They are determined by the area you live. I'm on the east side of St. Charles by the executive courses which includes Southern Star Villas and the street Odessa Circle. That's 88 villas and 80 designer homes. Our group is the smallest, it is run by Rosie Baird. She use to send out emails all the time. There is probably less communication now because it's summer and in the beginning a lot of groups such as golf, restaurant, and other social activies were just getting started, now most of them are already set up.

West of St. Charles the two other groups are divided by Tamarind Grove Blvd. That is south of the TG Blvd is called 'pool side' group and north is called 'lake side' group. I use to see a lot of emails from the pool side group. Sometimes when they are having an event, you see one of the groups with a table at the mail boxes selling tickets.

In March of this year and last year a neighbor in Southern Star Villas named 'Jackie' had a block party with live music. This year every area was invited, although I don't know how well the lakeside and poolside were informed. We had probably 250-300 people in the street.

I only have the email for Rosie, not the other two groups. One way to get info is to hangout at our neighborhood pool. I was there yesterday and by 2pm there must of been 40 people there. It's that way just about every afternoon. That's how I first found out about the groups. Also, go to the Sterling Heights Rec Center, that's where most of the groups hold meetings and parties. I'm sure the would have contact info.

I do play softball and would love to play when I am there. Will be there in July but probably not much softball being played then.

tainsley 05-27-2013 07:55 PM

I attended the block party. Fun, fun! The hostesses did a great job! We are poolside TG and found out about it up at the table set up in front of the postal area several weeks before!

Hi Richard - we play all year. The neighborhood leagues play 3 seasons, each is 14 games. We just played our third game of the summer season, it will end August 17th and then the fall season will start around Sept. 7th. There is usually a 3 week break between each season.

Before you can play on any team you must be evaluated. On this thread, go back to an earlier page and I wrote the details about being evaluated. Even if you only get evaluated in July, you could play in the fall or whenever you come back. Once you've been evaluated you won't have to go through that again, it does take 3 weeks. As I suggested to another poster, come out any Saturday to Buffalo Glen Field by the TV high school or Saddlebrook Fields by the Saddlebrook Rec Center near the polo fields. We rotate every season, Tamarind Grove is playing at Buffalo Glen this season. We have another Tamarind Grove team as well, so we have two teams but that also made us shorthanded during the summer. We had to get 4 subs for our last game, we play with 11 players on the field.

Duckfinger2 05-29-2013 07:17 AM

Thanks for the information, we will check out the pool.

Sweet Caroline 05-31-2013 03:47 PM

The Street is Tamarind Grove RUN and it sounds like you are in the "pool side" group. As John W. said there is a lot going on and TGR is known as the friendliest Village in TV. Since I am a "lake sider" we claim to be the most active . We have a ladies Bunco group that meets on Friday mornings at Sterling Heights called the Groovy Grover Babes and we play just for fun and to socialize. We have the Dancing Divas who are ladies who get together and go to the square to dance and there are many monthly socials and other functions that have grown out of the original groups. We also have a shuffle board league and are looking for players. We practice during the summer and the league play is in the fall and winter. PM me and I will send you the details if you are interested.

When we first moved in there was a driveway gathering, that was good to meet the people around us. Is there a email list one can get on to find out about the different social events ? We are not full time yet, but would like to try the different events. We both golf and like the outdoors.

Here is Rosie's email. She started the TG social group two years ago, which has now split into three different groups. She handles the Golf Course side now but she can give you info about the pool side.
