Restaurant shortage

Does anyone have a problem finding a restaurant, who lives below Lake Sumter Landing, and close to 466A, where I am? Colony has only a few, which are generally packed at dinner times. THere is plenty of open space for new places. We need new outlets for dining. I have suggested to the Villages Commercial Real Estate Office, that they should pursue looking into the Boston Market as a viable restaurant. Everyone on this Forum should write to them 'enmasse' to get something going. Please help.Thanks.

Hmmm! Residents near Mulberry Grove have been complaining for years! "No restaurants!".

Chain restaurants will go where they are CERTAIN to make a profit. They don't speculate. They don't build and then "hope". They do serious market research and when they find a place where they are CERTAIN that they will do well, then you'll see one go in.

justjim 05-25-2013 03:54 PM

Bopper: I think most people south of 466A agree with you. It will take some time but I think supply will catch up with the demand. Personally, I would like breakfast at someplace besides McDonalds in this area of TV.

logdog 05-25-2013 03:57 PM

Colony has 7 eateries with another on the way, Lake Sumter Landing has around 15 and it's only 15 minutes away from Colony by golf cart and there are 5 Country Clubs south of Lake Sumter Landing. That's quite a few choices (IMHO) without ever getting in your car.

:coolsmiley: You are pretty much correct Logdog. But if you want an old' fashion breakfast at 1:00pm, it's a much longer ride.

asianthree 05-25-2013 04:23 PM

i agree breakfast 24/7 would be great

jblum315 05-25-2013 04:29 PM

There used to be a chain called Steak & Eggs, and I think it served breakfast type meals 24.7. It was great. Wish they were still around.

gocubsgo 05-25-2013 04:55 PM

I'm tired of seeing the same restaurants opening all the time..Cody's, Panera, TGI Fridays...nothing but chains. Maybe TV will lower their rents and stop taking 10% profits so smaller restaurants can open? (and maybe monkeys will fly out me arse! :) )

I'd like 7 days but don't need 24 hours. I would like a place that serves eggs, bacon, potatoes, pancakes, etc. No buffet please. It would be great for Billy's Cafe, Athens, or 2-Jays to open another place in Coloney or Brownwood.

ilovetv 05-25-2013 05:56 PM

I wish we had a Bob Evans or IHOP at either Colony or the new shopping plaza being built by Pinellas.

What is going into the former CiCi's Pizza space?

I sure hope it's not another jewelry store, dress shop, or tire store.

They continue to open because they are successful, which means a lot of people go there. Many like chains. They have proven success and experience and can pull the franchise if things aren't kept to their standards. Why would someone lower the rent? Would you?If you owned a home to rent and could keep it rented, would you lower the price of rent? People are in business to make money. There is nothing wrong with that

It's an Italian Restaurant----not a chain. :coolsmiley:

I mentioned what was going into the former CiCi's at Colony in a previous thread I started. Click here >>> https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...119-post1.html

There is a 24/7 breakfast place called Denny's just 5 miles (10 minutes) from Colony Plaza if you're willing to venture outside of the golf cart bubble. There are also at least 3 other breakfasts places within that 5 miles from Colony, but they're not 24/7. See the map link for Colony Plaza to Denny's below:

https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=c...=13&iwloc=ddw1

rubicon 05-25-2013 07:16 PM

I suspect it is all relative. if you lived in a fairly big city with several suburbs surrounding its perimeter then you are use to widening your scope and their are just too many restaurants to chose from.

If your mind set is in need of golf cart assessable then you narrow your search and selections.

Add or subtract from that your tastes, etc and....well you get the picture.

Wildwood has restaurants and is just down the road.

That area is scarce due ONLY to Marion County stopping development in that area.

asianthree 05-25-2013 07:27 PM

well when they build down to the turnpike maybe a CB will come

marianne237 05-25-2013 07:47 PM

Wildwood is growing due in part to Villagers. The olde coffee pot (or whatever it's name is) has okay food and does serve breakfast. Their chicken buffet at lunch is small but satisfying.

I'd love to see a Boston Market here and also a fish restaurant...Capt. D or something similar.

There IS a Cracker Barrel on Hwy 441/27 just a couple of blocks from Lowe's hardware store. They do serve breakfast all day. Not the healthiest food around with all the country fried stuff and sausage gravy but downright tasty once in a great while.

Sounds like the folks living south of 466A who are griping about a lack of restaurants down there did not do "drive around research" before buying their house.

More chains............that are really closing rather than opening new sites.

Have you written to any of those Resteraunts and asked them to come? Where is all this open space? I know of 3 plots by Colony the rest is claimed or not GC accesable.

TooJay serves breakfast until 2pm on weekends. But you're right if you want breakfast later or on weekdays. It's 30 minutes by cart (Spanish Springs or Southern Trace) or 15 minutes by car to several 24/7 breakfast locations in and out of TV.

Bogie Shooter 05-26-2013 01:32 PM

go read some of the negative posts about the Irish Pub and then ask "Why would anyone want to start a restaurant"?
Wonder how many of those complainers are the same ones that are complaining about not enough restaurants?

So we can't complain also? At least Beef O'Brady's added breakfast. Now that they are building a Marcus Welby place and a Lake Imaging place we might get more attention. We already have the VA place.

I want a McDonald's and a Denny's and a Red Lobster or a Longhorns.

If you can dream why can't I?

Why not hire a chef to come in a few times a week and fix something at your home? It's just a thought.

I love to cook for others, unfortunately I am unable to take criticism for a meal that I've prepared using fine ingredients and love.

P. S. In my next life I am going to culinary school and becoming a chef

Really??? You don't care for Bonefish Grille, Johnny Carrabas, Oakwood Barbecue, Cody's Roadhouse, Longhorn Steakhouse, etc??? You must have a very limited choice of restaurants.

not always, locals depend on good food and service or they can't feed their family..we have eaten at longhorns once and not only was the service on the same level at Mc Ds, the food was not worth the stop...ran out of three things we ordered and then brought out what was left and asked what we wanted to do for a replacement after bringing the one dinner that had not run out...

skyguy79 05-26-2013 06:13 PM

There are 83 restaurants in our area listed on the following link... and that's just the ones that are accessible by golf cart.

The Villages Gourmet Club Restaurant Reviews Page 1

And another 241 restaurants within a 30 mile drive on this page.

The Villages Gourmet Club Restaurant Reviews Page 2

Want to go a little further, you can find another 325 restaurants within a 30 to 100 mile drive on this site. With this information, you can draw your own conclusions about restaurant shortages.

what you think when everyone drove down to pick out a lot south of 466a that the sand got in their eyes and didn't see that there was only dirt. nope been coming here since 2007 we know what's south of 466a, and would like to lighten up the load for new residents coming in...

applesoffh 05-26-2013 07:41 PM

Had breakfast at Rae Rae's last week (on 441) in Fruitland Park on a TOTV recom mendation. Delish! A lot closer to us than either Athens NY or Billy's, both of which we love.
