new fuel injection yamaha cart clutch issue
We bought new Yamaha fuel injection cart (2013). The dealer said we may some slip/jerk under startup acceleration or accelerating up a hill from a stop. The dealer says if we don't like the clutch they'll switch it to another type of clutch that operates more smoothly on fast or hilly start. We wonder if we should pursue replacement or just live with it. The problem is not severe and is avoidable. However we are wondering about long term wear/tear as well as the relative quality between the two clutch options. Anyone have any experience/knowledge that can help us?

We have the same model cart. We noticed a distinct jerk when starting from a stop with moderate acceleration. The dealer offered to change the drive belt to reduce or eliminate the problem. It appears to be a wider/thicker belt and the result is slower acceleration. At first, the new belt created a shudder upon starting out, but the dealer warned that might happen and that it would disappear, and it did. But the jerky start is gone. I think they told us the new belt was one used for rental carts and was intended to last longer.
BTW, the installer had us keep the original belt in case we wanted to change back. |
belt change satisfaction
Thanks for the info. Sounds like a soln. Before I pursue further two questions.
Is the slower acceleration enough to be an issue for you? Are you happy with the new belt? |

I had problems with my clutch. They suggested I take the model with the replacement clutch for a ride. It was like a gold cart on steroids. Loud, engined reved at max RPMS. I told them to FORGET the new clutch. They changed my belt and did something else I'll live with the jerking over the replacement clutch.

I purchased a 2013 Yamaha, as well. I experienced those belt slipping/jerk issues discussed above also. I took it back to TV Cart Store yesterday and the salesman who sold the cart to me drove it. We experienced the same issues on the drive and he said its fine; just indicative of carts with fuel injection. It's disappointing to say the least, to have to accept a engineering design flaw. May have bought the wrong brand!

You will not find this issue with their carts. You may have to talk to someone, other than your salesman... |
Before you buy a new yamaha, check out carts and clubs in ocala. They are a authorized yamaha dealer and 3 of my friends bought their yamaha gas carts from them. They claim they are built better and have a better service dept. They come to your house for all maintenance issues.

Please go back to TV Cart store and insist they fix your cart, free of charge. You should still be under warranty. Janet |
I am thinking about a gas cart but have decided on Club Car. does Club and Carts sell club cars also? If not where are residents buying their gas club Car Carts?
|
Another major thumbs-up for Carts and Clubs near Ocala on 27/441. On our street 29 home owners out of 31 bought at Carts and Clubs. The enclosure is superior. The lighting is much better. Almost all service is done at the end of our driveway. We're just a bunch of really happy cart owners.

I had it fixed on my 2013 EFI cart and think its quicker off the line.

I have the same cart and had the same problem. TV took the cart in and replaced the clutch but I said it was too loud, they then picked it up again and replaced it again. Seems better
I am looking for some help to quiet it down! Too noisy for me. |
Clutch problem on 2013 Yamaha carts
Does anyone know if Yamaha intends to fix the problem of poor performance on the 2013 gas carts or just continue to try and fix the problem after market? Seems they are not succeeding after market with any type of success.
Thanks:confused::confused: |
EFI Yamaha Cart is a new technology for golf carts. Like most new models (including cars) there is usually problems and it takes a couple of model years to get out all the startup "bugs".
|
I've got a 2013 Yamaha gas cart and have no problems what so ever. Have about 800 miles on the OD and she runs great. I do know my dealer will do a "tune" on the cart in the fall. Sometimes the belt needs adjusting. A good dealer should take care of that for you.

If you bought it from the villages store call them up and tell them your clutch slams into gear. They will repair it. They did repair mine. No problems.

Went into The Villages Cart store today to price out a new Yamaha gas cart. I mentioned to the salesman that I heard that the new 2013's were having complaints about slipping clutches. His reply was that Yahama wasn't going to change anything in 2014, and that they stood behind the existing clutch configuration. He stated that the problem was the way carts were used in The Villages and it was our problem and not Yamaha's.
All carts on the floor had the orginal clutches. When I said that I heard that the Ocala dealership was installing the "all terrain clutch" the salesman did an about face and said they would replace orginal clutches free before delivery if customers insisted. Go figure. A hidden recall situation, just like the auto makers?? A real honest salesperson. Really want to trust him?? Tomorrow I'm off to Ocala to see what they have to offer. |

I have nothing but praise for Carts n Clubs . They're Carts & service is far superior then The Villages. |
We bought our Club Car at Masters in Belleview, BUT they only do remanufactured. We got the 2008 as we didn't really like the new Precident. If you want new, try Granda and Grandpa's in Summerfield on 441. The will be more reasonably priced than the large dealer and do new Club car and Yamahas. They will "build" whatever you want. Both of these will be sure to make you happy.

We like our older Yamaha gas golf cart and it gets up to speed (just the speed limit, officer) quickly. Can you explain why this new fuel injection feature is a plus?

Any of you guys/gals own a 2014 fuel injected cart having this problem with the clutch like the 2013 carts are having??
|
Had the same problem. Cannot believe a jerking start is good long term. My dealer, off TV said he put in a heavier clutch. Does rev higher when starting up but no jerking. No cost. I reccomend fixing.
|
They may be good and provide all good things but they don't take credit cards to purchase your cart.

The main benefits to using direct injection is that the amount of fuel and air can be perfectly released and then injected into the cylinder according to the engine load conditions. The electronics used in the system will calculate this information and constantly adjust. This type of controlled fuel injection results in a higher power output, greater fuel efficiency and much lower emissions. Fuel injection isnt very important for us southerns but for the northern gold in cold temps the fi is a big plus. The fi will have better fuel mileage, less exhaust fumes, and more forgoving when using ethanol gas.

2013 clutch update
Finally we have a cart that starts and runs well. Put a note on the cart during annual tune up. They put on a high speed, heavy duty belt at their cost. That solved half the problem but the startup slippage continued. Called the dealer to complain and insisted on talking to the manager. He was very sympathetic and understanding. This is a big issue for them and one they have been struggling with. Yamaha wiped their hands of the problem and said Villages franchise puts on the high speed gear and modified the cart with big wheels. You changed it, the problem is yours. Villages took our cart back and put in a new clutch and possibly made other adjustments. The improvement is great and the problem resolved. The new cart does not startup as smoothly as our 2008 cart but it starts up OK and it runs much quieter. We love the lower noise level. This has to be an expensive headache for the Villages Yamaha dealer. Based on my experience they will solve the problem if you explain the problem and insist on a fix. I talked to a person who just bought a new cart and they have no problem. Maybe they are just eating the cost of putting on the new belt and clutch from the get go now that they know a soln.
|
The cost of the cart at the time of purchase might be at a higher rate to cover the cost they are eating later on after the purchase. Is the villages offering good prices on new carts?? A 2014 efi yamaha with the street package with lights, brakes lights, horn etc should be around 6000$
