I called t/d about the pool flooding. mine will (hopefully) drain into the lanai grates and flow out near the steps onto the grass. they say it won't hurt the yard...?

Wow. Do you have an overflow valve outside on your pump? You could probably open it and bleed some of the water out that way. I just learned yesterday that we have one, so you might check.

I do have a drain on the pump...just in case...not sure about overflow valve.

Hmmm. Most pools SHOULD have a drain valve by your pump. I connected a hose to mine, let the pump keep running, turned on the valve, and let it drain in the driveway. I was told probably wouldn't hurt the yard, depending on the pool and chlorine levels, but why take the chance. I drained off at least 4" of water so far. Easy to do. I am surprised why T&D didn't tell you. It is used for this reason or IF you have to drain the pool for maintenance without using a sump.

Looks like a dry spell, no rain for roughly an hour(?) Total rainfall for today in the Village of Charlotte at 3:45 PM is 3.00 inches. Wind has kicked up.

Oh no, my pool isnt ready for water yet...Thanks for the update, we have a CYV in Charlotte, yet we are currently in Michigan for another month while our pool is installed.

4:25 Sun shown for brief spell near 466 and now gustier winds whipping the bushes and trees a bit.

We had 2.38 today and more coming.

Hadley - winds have picked up considerably - probably the strongest all day - and the rain has started again. The good news is we did have a break that allowed the excess water to soak in or drain off so we can be off to the races again.

Rain gauge in back yard from Wed downpour was 3"
and last night till today when I checked, it was another 4"

I opened mine last year with TS Debbie...and it did kill the grass along the water path it created...the grass did grow back over time with additional watering.
Looks like my pool added about 4" today. Did not have to open the valve this time.

All pools are supposed to be built with an automatic overflow outlet just for such an event.

To drain out water with chlorine and expect it not to kill the grass is wishful thinking, don't you think?

tropical storm rain totals
 

During the course of the approx 2 day storm i emptied my rain gauge twice. Once after day one was over and once after the whole thing was over and it quit raining. Heres my totals. First time i emptied it i had 2 inches in it. Second time i emptied it i had 1and 3/4 inches in it. Total for the whole event 3and 3/4 inches of rain. Like they always say the ammount you got may vary. It depends on where your located in the villages. Im in santo domingo village close to hwy 441. But this gives the out of towners who wernt here some idea .

Is the grass in TV particularly sensitive to chlorine in the water? I understand the TV irrigation water is not potable but most all areas use city water to water the grass and it contains chlorine.
If the chlorine in the pool is diluted due to the 4" of rain and the water discharged into the lawn is further diluted by the 4" of rain, would you still expect it to kill the grass? I don't have a pool, just curious growing up with city water.

Really, just exactly where does this info come from? My pool was built in 2008 and does not have an automatic overflow. I know of others built before and soon after ours that do not have them either.

Total rain fall for yesterday, 6/6/13 was 3.25" in Buttonwood near Fishhawk rec center.

The items you mention are additional costs associated with a pool, not necessarily built incorrectly. My pool happens to have an autofill/drain however I paid extra for it. The basic pool (most every T&D pool I've ever seen) has a gutter that buffers the pool from the house and when the water leaks over the edge it goes into the gutter and out on the lawn, which by the way is where my auto drain effluent ends up as well. As for chlorine killing grass, I've pumped thousands of gallons of water through my pump drain valve onto my lawn during pool draining operations and never saw any evidence of killing the grass. Actually seemed to perk it up.

I never said my pool or any others were built incorrectly. My point is that as far as I know there is nothing in the Florida code that "requires" the auto lever. My contractor was T&D and when I asked them, after we bought this house, we were told the auto levers were an option not a requirement. And as I have been doing for over five years if the water level gets too high due to rain then I put out the hose by the filter and lower the water level. No big deal.

Yes it is extra, just like a regular light is $200 but a multi color LED light is $900. And $25 worth of PVC has nothing to do with the cost and labor associated with trenching and backfill, glueing and running and setting the level for the drain line.

Can you come over to my house and mow my lawn for $5? It shouldn't cost any more than that for the gas.

Guess you never built a pool or understand construction or know where a drain goes, that $25 would cover the all the costs.

Ahh but I did and I do. I like the lawn mowed on Friday if possible.:wave:

The final rain amount provided by Andrea in Amelia on the east side of The Villages was 2.8 inches.

The Lake near Amelia pool is as high as I have seen it in awhile. Looks like it is about a foot from the highest level and up about 2 feet from the pre Andrea level.
