Working while living in the Villages
We will be moving to the Villages this fall/winter. I am a few years behind my spouse as far as retirement goes and will continue to work even once moving to the Villages. Does anyone else out there work full-time jobs? I may need to start a support group for those of us who still have a few years to go! :22yikes:
|
I work full time and hubby works part time. We'd love to join your group but we work too much and don't have time!! :)
|
A support group sounds good! Nobody much wants to hear me bitch about my job. :-)
According to my countdown timer, I've got 1665 days, 9 hours and 33 minutes to retirement. Yay, I guess? Other than perhaps not fully utilizing your amenity fees, it's still very pleasant to live here, completely retired or not. |
we both work full time and will continue to do so for the forseeable future. salaries are considerably less than almost any other place in the US.
|
I will be moving to TV in a few months and will also be working full time. I am so glad to know I won't be alone. A support group sounds like a great idea! :)

Don't count on being able to find a DECENT PAYING full time job here...great place to retire to, but not to work.

My wife and I are both working and will be for a while. We are both 40something and have lived in here over a year now. It is a bit of a different experience since you are still employed and most activities are built around folks that are retired. But all in all, you do well!!!!

Are your jobs located in TV? If not, how far is your commute? This is my first post, so apologies for all the questions! |
So appreciative of all the posts. I am so glad to know I will not be alone. I was a bit worried that I would be a working outcast.

my husband will be coming in two years and working part time about the same money but less hours

My partner and I are moving to TV next year. We are both social workers working with seniors so hope to find jobs easily. I am 55 years old and she is 50 years old, so we have some working years left, but we want to move to TV before full retirement so we can establish a social community and enjoy the culture before we retire.

10 to 11 dollars?

as there are so many volunteers available to work for 0.00 the wages have been artifically lowered by..........TV! may sound cynical, but have experienced this since we arrived in fall 2008. and it has not changed.:024: |
I too will be moving down only after securing a health care position. What the going rate for RNs in the area? Ali's is there a HR for the new "Marcus Welby" offices?

Here's how I imagine the conversation going: "How about Wednesday at 1pm?" "Sorry, I have a meeting then. Are you free on Thursday?" "No, I'm giving a presentation." "Any time next week?" "We're doing our update then and I'll be swamped." "Should we try for Saturday?" "That's my club meeting day, and Sunday is brunch with my family." etc.:laugh: |

I am retired but my old company has asked me to work full-time on a project which will last about 15 months. The company I worked for is in Minneapolis but now I live in Michigan so I am working remotely. We just bought in TV but do not plan to more there full time for a couple of years but will be down there for a couple of weeks in June, a couple of weeks in August or September and at least 3 months next winter and I figure I can work from home just as well in FL as I can in MI, so at least for my first year, I will be working full time. The nice thing about the contract job is that it is helping pay the mortgage on two homes.

2. TVRH (my place of employment) has many openings for full-time or part-time RN's. The pay (I'm guessing low to mid 20's per hour) is very low compared to up north but they do offer full benefits for both PT or FT work. 3. I work pool, my choice, and don't get insurance benefits (but I do get 401 match, bonus etc.). Our rate ($35 base) during the day for pool with shift and weekend diff comes to around $39 per hour. Night would be about $43 per hour. PM me for more info - Russ |

This is too funny, now I have heard of everything "a support group for people who have jobs"! Uh, count me in, I have 2 years to go.
|
I work full time and spouse is retired. Most of our social life continues to be on the weekend. Sometimes its frustrating that i cant participate in everything i would like to because they are during the day but we were able to move here 5 yrs sooner than we thought because i found a good paying job in the Orlando area. I look forward to the day I can enjoy all the fun things my friends do during the day M-F.

Hi Everyone! We're Pat and Tom from Michigan and we're headed to The Villages by the end of this year...can't wait!! You can add me to the group too as I will continue to work full time for several more years (hopefully) but Tom will be retiring! Glad to hear I won't be alone and it will be quite a unique club for The Villages!!
Has anyone had any luck landing a job in health care BEFORE you moved to The Villages? Will TVRH HR talk to you if you already have a Florida license but don't yet live in Florida? I don't know how you all did this...we are getting VERY overwhelmed with all the planning and timing of events! :sigh: |
