Craft Groups
I know that there are tons of craft groups here in TV but nothing seems to have trickled over to Gilchrist as yet. Any one interested in seeing if we can get something going over this way? Perhaps at either Bradenton or Captiva? I was thinking very general - knit, crochet, embroider, cross stitch, needlepoint, quilt - Whatever you like to do. Not to teach but to help each other and for comraderie. There seems to be availability in both of these locations and I'm willing to approach the "powers that be" to get something started but I'm curious if there is any interest.

There is a quilting group at Captiva and one at Bradenton.

I think I was thinking of more than just quilting. The Captiva group meets once a month I believe.

The bradenton and captiva quilt groups meet weekly. They may have waiting lists, so stop in if you are interested. Also, once a month all of the chapters can go to the main quilt guild meeting where they have fabulous speakers and lots of learning ops. One Saturday a month Captiva has a sit and sew, all are welcome to work on their own projects. Captiva also has a pine needle basket group, I believe it is every other Tuesday afternoon. Saturday afternoon is a sewing group at seabreeze called fabric fun who do all kinds of sewing projects on their own and with the group. Both colony and seabreeze have lots of painting in various mediums available. I know people come from all different villages to participate so give some of these groups a try or start one of your own. The talent and creativity of villagers is amazing!

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be giving these options a try.

I would be very interested. I belong to two knitting groups but they meet at Churchill and Coconut Cove. I'm also looking for people who enjoy machine embroidery. Does anyone else do English smocking?

I'm not really a sewer. Don't know how to use a sewing machine. I'm looking for a closer venue for other avenues of creativity and neighborly camaraderie.

I'm in Tamarind grove and I would come to a club similar to Happy Stichers! Keep me posted!

I would also be interested in a Happy Stitchers South. You can get a form to fill out at the regional rec centers, like Seabreeze. They will help you fill it out. After its submitted and approved they will advertise the club and let you know what facilities are available. It's really pretty simple. I'd suggest you don't ask for Tuesdays since a lot of the stitching groups meet that day. Let me know when this starts.
