Early riser or staying up late????
I notice by some of the post times folks are up at all hours of the early AM.
Are you an early riser for what ever reason or a late night/AM person. I, on occasion, will awaken during the night and not be able to fall back asleep. I am thankful it does not happen very often. How about you? btk |
I have always been an early riser since I was very very young. My internal clock wakes me up between 5-6 a.m. never have needed an alarm clock. I love the mornings, the quietness, watching the sun come up over a cup of coffee. I workout in the mornings as it is my best time to get the day started.
|
Based on my lifestyle as student/worker getting up at 4:00 AM is so ingrained that while I set my alarm I always get to it before schedule.
Early mornings are quiet and allow me time to internalize, set my daily tasks and read my papers without any distractions. I will nap mid-day for about 0 minutes. I love the arly morning and the sunrise |
Same here in bed around 9:00pm, up at 5:00am everyday. love the morning.
|
All the early risers are chiming in...me too. Though my starting time does seem to flow with the daylight/seasons. Earlier, 6ish, in June and later, 7ish in December. Start to bed by 10pm most nights. Certainly don't sleep as well as I did in my 20s.
Love the mornings here...the quiet, mild weather, read the paper, do my 'puter surfing, Pickleball/exercise. This time of year, great way to beat the heat and get exercise in before the storms! |
Watching sunsets is wonderful - watching sunrises even more so.
|
I've always been an owl. Love the peace of the dark silent night.
|
I go to bed usually about midnight & up at 4:30 - 5:00 am. I never was a big sleeper. Guess I was always afraid I would miss something.
|
I'm usually up and around between 6 and 7 AM. I almost never go to bed before 11:30 PM. It's usually between midnight and 1 AM. If I nap, it's late afternoon for 20 minutes sitting in my chair.

Early riser also here. Always had to be to work at 5:00am each day, so really used to early hour. Feel energetic in the morning. Don't like rushing to golf course in morning, so getting up early, lets me do it at my pace for tee time @ 7:30-8:15. I notice lots of people out early, walking. Its always a beautiful morning in The Villages
|
In bed by 10:00 or 11:00 PM and up around 5:00 AM. Just never seem to need much sleep.

Late to bed, early to rise. Have to slow the mind down before I can even consider sleep. Four to five hours a night (sometimes less, no more than 5 unless I'm ill), a 15-minute nap in the day if I have the time. This has worked for me my entire life.
|
Natural body time
I spent 32 years having to be at school by 7:00 a.m. and the last five years got home around 7:00 p.m.
Since moving to The Villages I have found my natural bedtime is around 12:30 A.M. and my natural wake up time is 9:00 a.m. Hubby is pretty good about letting me sleep until then as I can be a grumpy bear if awakened before. He gets up really early two days a week to work and golf (5:45 a.m. and 6:15 a.m.). Other days he walks the dog and looks at the computer until I get up. Bless his heart! |
I go to bed at midnight but I usualy can't fall asleep until around 2 or 3am. Get up between 7 or 7:30am
|
after living four years in madrid, my body got on the late schedule...am always awake until after midnight, sometimes get to watch craig ferguson until one thirty :) like to wake up around eight thirty when the light seeps through my eyelids :) never have been a "jump out of bed full of enthusiasm" type. since no one cares what i am doing at those hours, why not? i need a hubby like teachnmo's!
|
I go to bed around 4-5am and get up at 9. I have never allowed myself to require much sleep as I have always thought that sleep was a waste of time. I love the midnight to 4 am period as I am able to write with no interruption.

I'm very flexible now in my retirement.
For many years, fighting the traffic in LA, It was to bed at 9pm and awake at 3am to try to avoid early morning traffic. Then work all day until 7 or 8pm and getting home around 9 pm and go straight to bed again. I never saw my house, my family or my dogs and it wasn't pleasant. Now in retirement, if I'm out dancing, it could be 1am before I get to bed and wake up whenever I want to.... and even after waking up, I don't have to get out of bed until I want to. My naps are as I want.... every day or sometimes... and if I need a long one, I take it. Who says retirement isn't great!!! I worked 48 years straight to enjoy this life and enjoy it I will....:pepper2: |
Always been a late night person.
Seem to be very lazy during the day (except for golf) but then wake up. Last night around 9:30-10:00 pm started prepping my garage for painting. Put on some music, cooler weather and just gooooooooooo. Usually up around 7 am. |
asleep at midnight up at 4:10am no alarm just don't need sleep
|
I love sleep! It's like death with the responsibility.
When I was younger I would be out like a light for 9 hours every night, but now it's rare if I doze off before midnight and never sleep through without waking a couple of times. I'm generally up around 6-7am. I don't feel sleepy or fatigued, though, so I guess my body just needs less rest these days. I suppose in retirement many people are finding out what their natural circadian rhythms are since they're no longer being forced to adhere to typical daytime work schedules. There was one period when I was unemployed for a few months and my cycle gradually got pushed back until I was staying up until 3-4am and sleeping until noon. |
I wake up around 5:30 to 6:00 am...go to bed around midnight.. Guess its the way my system is programmed after many years of working.
|
Love this quote on the wall at one of the Regional Recreational Centers....How beautiful it is to do nothing and rest afterwards.
With that usually go to bed by 10 PM and wake at 5 AM..........love the peacefulness of the morning. An afternoon power nap of 45 to 60 minutes is rejuvenating especially when there is an evening TV sports event to watch. |
Up by 5:45 AM and in bed around 11 PM depending on whether or not the game I am watching runs late.

My internal clock stopped working years ago, so I threw it out!:throwtomatoes:

I have the dubious honor of being an insomniac. I am up at all times around the clock I hate, Hate, Hate it!!!!
|
I'm a night owl! Always have been.
Go to bed midnight plus and up 9 or so. Love reading at night. |
This is what retirement is all about. Finally able to go to sleep when I want, which is between 12:30 and 1 am. If I'm not playing golf in the morning I'll sleep till 9:30

I'm the night owl and DH is the early bird.
Most couples we know are opposites like this. How about you? |
I'm still working (three days a week), and without a set schedule. On my work day I'm up at 5:10 and to bed around 10:30ish. If I happen to be off the next morning, I sit in front of the tv and usually unwind and watch a sitcom, with the tablet on my lap. I'll head to bed around midnight and sleep until 8-8:30, or when the dog comes in and licks my face! (My day off alarm clock).
|
Definitely not a morning person
After 41 years of having to be up by 6 to go to work, I am thrilled that I can sleep until 8:30 am. I go to bed around midnight. I am so happy to get needed rest. Yeah!!!!!!

I envy you morning people. I think you get a lot more done than I do! |
I like to go to bed early and wake up late.
|
It's 1:30 AM. Does that answer the question?
|
Three hours earlier than you guys

Also Patfla06.... Hubby and I are like you said opposites. He is up at 4:30 when he sleeps in and will fall asleep in his chair if up past 11pm. Quite often he is at the starter shack when it opens on days he plays golf and we live 30 min from the course. Can't wait to see what happens in retirement next month if he will change after all these years. |
I like to stay up late and get up early. My whole life I have really only needed 6 hours of sleep or less. Lucky I guess.
