Best ribs in town.

Hey guys my lady and I had the best ribs today since we got to TV. New place in Wildwood on 301 by the north flyover.T Westons Smokehouse. Great food, we had ribs and tri-tip roast, service was great and food was fast, real smoke taste.Tried the wings too-so good. The best part was that the place was sparkling clean. I flagged the owner down to compliment him on how clean the john was. Not something we see often. We're going back for the prime rib soon.
Way better than the other "new" BBQ"S IMHO.
Benj.

Really? I went to Weston's about a month ago and my dinner was miserable, almost inedible.

justjim 07-03-2013 06:15 AM

Oakwood last night---full slab baby backs fell off the bone and right into my mouth and only 12.95! We are always up for a new rib place but haven't found one that beats Oakwood.

SoccerCoach 07-03-2013 06:20 AM

I would vote Oakwood and Westons as the best in the area for BBQ. Cleanliness, speed, food quality, taste, and attention to clients at the top. That's only my opinion!

I agree jblum! We think Texas Stockyards can't be beat!

I agree. It's really good. I especially like the sides namely the sweet corn, the twice baked potato casserole and green beans. Yum.:mmmm:

Bill32 07-03-2013 03:10 PM

We go to Texas, Burkes and Oakwood and feel each is somewhat unique and and like the variety+

I agree! I heard they were getting ready to fold. We had a pulled pork sandwich there a week ago that was horrible. Soggy bread and so much fat, it was gross.

If you get over toward Umatilla or Eustis, try Umatilla Inn restaurant and bar on 19, just past the 450 turn. He smokes his own ribs and has a full rack for $13.99 or 1/2 rack for $8.99. I think they are better than Texas Stockyards and was told they're better than Oakwood, which I haven't tried!

I'm with you there Jim!

The best of all is SugarBoo's in Mt. Dora. Google it, they have a web site. If you eat their ribs you'll be spoiled for anywhere else

marianne237 07-03-2013 05:44 PM

We personally don't care for "dry rubs" which is what we encountered at Westons. So, we have a tendency to stay with Oakwood or Woody's. We did try a place in Eustis which is north of town on rte 19...looked like a biker bar, but the ribs were good.

Did you know Woody's is closed? We're going to miss them.

rockyisle 07-03-2013 08:02 PM

We went back to Burke's BBQ last night - Again, another great meal. I love ribs of any kind - but I do love the dry rub, true smoke of these real ribs. Went for different sides - sweet potato casserole (major yum) and cole slaw - delicious. They had biscuits or texas toast last night - biscuit was great, really love their corn bread.
Had a chance to talk with the owner and he said business has been picking up - so thanks to all of you who frequent this home-grown business. If we want variety, we have to support these local business owners or we'll have to settle for the chains on 466.
This is an oober clean restaurant.. Restrooms were sparkling too. If you are not a rib fan, their smoked chicken is fabulous too. Haven't had their pulled pork, but it looked fabulous. Let's keep these places busy and successful.

That is prob DAM SMOKER BBQ ..... good Q!

A little further north on 19 past Umatilla you will find Old Crow BBQ. Been there forever and very good Q! But be aware that they are only open Wednesday - Saturday.

Sugar Boo in Mt Dora is very good.

OK, so no one likes Sonny's. I get it. But, c'mon, y'all gotta admit Larry is the best host of any in The Villages.

Texas stockyard on 441, almost as good as Elm street BBQ in Newark NJ

rdhdleo 07-06-2013 01:56 PM

We just tried Burkes BBQ today, I had the Spare Rib Platter with scalloped potato and corn and the corn bread for $10 hubby had the 2 meat pulled pork and sausage , baked beans and texas toast and okra. The Ribs were fall off the bone awesome and very meaty, corn ok, scalloped potatoes ok, corn bread very yummy. Hubbys pork delicious and huge amount, sausage excellent, baked beans best ever . We will be back. Very clean and friendly. Net time wan to try their homemade from scratch cake it looked delicious! I ope they do good. We have been to Texas Stockyard twice and were not impressed at all, it was ok at best for the price. Like Oakwood a lot but usually so crowded. Haven't tried Westons but seems like more bad than good reviews.

beachx4me 08-21-2013 07:51 PM

Tried Texas Stockyard this evening and the food was very good. Had the pulled pork platter and had enough to bring home some. The sauce is a little different than what I am used to (but it was good). Being from VA, I am used to the Carolina style, vinegar based sauce. Maybe I will sneak in a little of my own sauce next time!!! Will definitely go back.

leftyf 08-27-2013 07:23 AM

We are Oakwood fans too. Best ribs in the area.

Snookie 08-28-2013 03:30 PM

Oakwood is the best I have never anything good about Burke's, I don't like sitting outside with bugs and eating offof paper plates for the same price I can go to Oakwood and get the best in town. [I][U]Weston"s is the lousiest service and food I have ever had. Never again.

jblum315 08-28-2013 03:38 PM

Good thing somebody likes Weston's I guess. Worst meal I've had since I've been here

graciegirl 08-28-2013 03:43 PM

Oakwood! Not purty, but GOOD. Yum.

Indydealmaker 08-28-2013 03:54 PM

When it comes to BBQ, I support mom n pop shops. I have never had a bad meal at Burke's. Robin and I have eaten there at least a dozen times. They even have a good cheeseburger with meat that was smoked before it was grilled as a burger.

As far as eating outside goes, most people that come to Florida will go out of their way to find a restaurant with outdoor seating. Hey! Its Florida. And Burke's is loaded with outdoor seating. Unpretentious and homey. You might even get to be entertained by their little grandson.

As always dining choices are highly personal, almost like religion, but I vote for the mom n pops of this world!

Hey. Without mom and pops we wouldn't be here.

Sorry Steve. I had too.

it must have been terrible. you've posted it twice!

Jwatk 08-29-2013 10:37 PM

Will have to try texas Smokehouse. Tried Weston,s last week and it was delicious, especially the brisket. Friend had the prime rib and said it was ok.oakwood is always delish, even the cheeseburger!

jblum315 08-30-2013 04:45 AM

Sorry about that, but yep, it was beyond terrible. Terrible times two.

redwitch 08-30-2013 06:00 AM

I'm a rib fiend. Love 'em -- beef or pork. I'm not a fan of the East Coast sweet sauce -- I want some bite to my sauce. That being said, went to Weston's once -- never again. Food was really bad. Ribs were all fat, no meat; sauce was sweet enough to use in sweet tea; service was okay. Love Burke's and eat there every chance I get (their chicken was okay the one time I had it but the ribs have been yummy each and every time). Haven't been to Texas Smokehouse in awhile. I need to go back. Cody's ribs aren't too bad. Sonny's is off my list. Dying to try Sugar Boo's -- have heard great things about it from a few people. Adding the Eustis/Umatilla joints to my list to check out.

kittygilchrist 08-30-2013 06:29 AM

I opened this post just to see what you had to say, RW, thinking, "I'll bet she knows ribs"...I'm gonna be licking my fingers at Burke's.

skyguy79 08-30-2013 09:00 AM

I hate to make a negative post about a restaurant and don't do it very often, but I have to agree with those who indicate that Weston's ribs were let's say... less than desirable. A few days ago we got food delivered off of their to-go menu and I've never had ribs as tough as what I got. I had a half rack of the St. Lewis Ribs and without exaggeration too much, I felt like I was chewing on beef jerky or dry leather. This was our first experience with Weston and unfortunately it will most likely be our last.

On the other hand and to have something nice to say about Weston, I really liked the macaroni & cheese side I got. Also, my wife had the Santa Maria Black Tip Sandwich. She said it wasn't bad but not really all that good either. Perhaps we should stick with Oakwood since we've never had a negative experience in the several times we've had their food.

jblum315 08-30-2013 10:11 AM

We can go back and forth about ribs forever, but I still say you haven't had the best until you've tried Sugar Boo's in Mt. Dora

Neal2tire 09-01-2013 09:30 PM

Oakwood hands down

If you happen to run across a real NC barbeque place, please share!!! I had a telemarketer recommend a place in Ocala...not sure how we got on the subject...LOL, but it's True Grits, just off 441, on the north side of Ocala. Well, this lady had spent time in my hometown, so I was sooooo excited, thinking she might actually KNOW what NC bbq is really like. She didn't!! There was just a hint of the taste I was looking for, but other than that, just another pulled pork, loaded with sauce, and the slaw actually had radishes in it.

My favorite bbq, so far....and I don't eat it often...is the little take out place between Belleview and Ocala. Sorry I don't recall the name, but hoping someone else can add it. They have a sign out front for a $5.00 bbq sandwhich. The pulled pork is good, haven't tried the ribs, and the potato salad is outstanding.

kittygilchrist 09-02-2013 05:04 AM

Hey, what is NC BBQ really like? I can't imagine going to NC and asking around for Florida BBQ, so it must be special!

And so is Oakwood but they are the best for me so far.

Chain restaurants get a bad rap but when you think about it why are they chains? Because people go there so they open more!

But I'll try SugarBoos on your recommendation.

Has anyone tried the We Be Smokin food truck that parks on 301 and 42?
