thevillages.net
Can someone explain to me what this is. It isn't an ISP that is an option for HS Internet. It costs $8/mo for what? It seems to have select content. Is this the only way to get access to the content like golf reservations?
I guess I don't get it. Am I missing something. It seems like a racket. |
Yes, it allows you to make golf reservations ONLINE (tho' you can use the phone system for free). And, you can apply for guest passes ONLINE rather than going to a Regional Rec Center and filling out the form.
It also gives you an e-mail account! |

You can apply online for guest passes without using TheVillages.net, @aln. |

For me, it is worth the $8 to able to search for open times by course or by play time on either executive or championship course. I often fill in a threesome, so it is convenient to be able to quickly see what is open and where.
All the online tee time systems I have encountered in the past have been for a particular course only, so I had to log in to several sites if I wanted to compare availability at different courses. As mentioned above, the phone system is free, so there is a no-cost alternative. |

Well said PaPaLarry, We all chose to live here under the rules. So the alternative is if a person does not like what are the rules. Then feel free to leave. Find a better place with the same amenities.

I suggest you use the phone or walk-up for a month and it might give you a new appreciation for spending the $8. By the way if you're not going to be using it for a month, you can cancel and restart when you return. |

Just curious, at the exectutive golf course, where does the fees for the golf cart path use go to? Upkeep for the paths, or in Mr. Morris's pocket?

As for using the computer or call up option, it is a personal choice and up to the individual person's needs. Like we golfers say "Different strokes for different folks" |

The golf cart path fee is so far less than anywhere I have ever seen and is most likely used for the maintenance of the courses and the courses are very much used. Because of the excellent scheduling the courses are probably more used than anywhere I have ever been. I think I missed your point E-flyer. |

$8.00 well spent and I don't really care who's pocket it goes into as long as I am happy with the service received.

You are not required to use villages.net for a tee time. Use the free phone system if you want. It is your choice!

Gracie, you are truly the queen of TOTV! Keep it up! Mrs. Buggy has begun to read some of the threads on TOTV and she always gets a smile out of your comments. |
Personally, I will will be moving up there shortly and one of the first things I do will be to sign up for this service.
Don't like waiting either in person or on the phone. Would rather book when I want to. :gc: |
I think the point of the original post is why not just say that it costs $8 a month to book a tee-time online and you must use the service instead of trying to make it look like you are paying for an ISP?

Have you used the phone system? A real pain. Plus with the on-line system you get an email with the course and T time. You can also store any ID numbers of friends you golf with so you don't have to remember them or have a written list. I think it is a good use of $8.

Works for me
|
Do I like paying $96 a year for what was free up north, no. However, once you start to use the system, it is very simple. This time of year with the lower green fees, about $20 after 11am, and with weather forecasts constantly changing we never put in a request. My neighbor and I played Glenview on Monday and today were playing Lopez. We just go online a day or two ahead of time and pick out the 18 that we want to play and find a good teetime. In the winter when their is a lack of open teetimes, making an advanced teetime request isn't difficult either once you get use to the system.

It makes it much easier to schedule groups and to find availability and as Mikeod says to store everyone's numbers if you are making tee times for a group routinely. It ain't free, but it is nice. |
Also, to manage about 10,000 (yes, it's a good number) t-times per day would require quite a few more employees...(big cost increase)
|
I use my phone for my golf needs. Works fine for me. If you want convenience pay for it. It's your choice to spend 8 dollars a month.

Now, I'm a believer
I am convinced that I will subscribe to this web site when we get back in November. Thanks to all the input. Since being new and not having a group to play with, I will use this site to try and fill out a foursome.
Does anyone have any other suggestions as how to find guys to play with, both champion and executive courses? |
It's a great system. So civilized too!!!!
