Zimmerman Verdict
Zimmerman not guilty. Hope there is PEACE.
|
Congratulations to a fair, reasoning and brave jury!
|
They got the verdict correct as far as I'm concerned. Never less, George Zimmerman will be punished for the rest of his life for a crime that he did not commit. He and his family will probably be forced to move out of the area and he can expect to be harassed and possibly assaulted until the day he dies.

Wonder WHAT would have happened to both of their lives if this had not occurred? Would George Zimmerman find someone else to kill? Would Trayvon Martin go on to have a successful career and become a pillar of society? Most of us THINK we know. We might be surprised, and we might not. In situations that are very murky as to law and to common sense, we only have our own private opinions and the older we get, and the more we see things happen, the more I trust the wisdom of age. I know what I think. You know what you think. There are no easy answers and exceptions to all of the rules. |
Further proof that our criminal justice system cannot be driven by the wants of politicians perpetually running for office and pandering to certain groups whose minds cannot be changed by fact or reality.

Ditto. Our wish as well. Everyone should live in peace and not try to stir up riots and civil discord in the streets, etc. Or how about, "Get a job"........ For anyone interested, as was my husband....as to how many folks are incarcerated by percentage of the various races in the United States......just type in to your search engine: "Incarcerated in the United States" Wikipedia. If you keep scrolling downward there are many graphs showing who exactly is in jail...........the percentage etc. Also, info on prisons.... Or, type in "What percentage of black males are in prison" Wikipedia will automatically come up....... No one wants to hear it, but we've had a recent insurgence of city gangs who have come up to our little town to sell drugs......hook up with dumb young gals, move in with them and do their business. The police have cracked down on a large number of them. Just the other day, one came up from the city to Albany, N.Y. where he got a taxi cab to our town........a young "on the ball" cop noticed something wrong with the taxi's sticker..........and investigated. The cab had been told to pull into our local Chinese restaurant's parking lot which is where the cop apprehended a large amount of HEROIN. The city gang member is arrested under a huge bail............no need to profile them. You can see them. No one in this town was ever afraid to walk the streets when we were raising our family. All the police, detectives, F.B.I. in Vermont know they are coming up from the cities to sell drugs up here...........where they stand out in a crowd, let's just say. |

IMO the only people that will be interested in George Zimmerman a few weeks from now will be the same people that read The Enquirer. Although his attorney did say, in a televised interview, that Zimmerman receives threats and would have to stay in hiding "from those on the fringes". O'Mara said he has also received threats. Hopefully, Zimmerman's employer will give him his old job back, and he can get back to his old life. |

1) No! My best guess is that he would have continued with his unassuming life. 2) No! In fact if he hadn't been suspended from School three times (Pot possession and possession of burglary tools and thrown out of his Mother's house in Miami his chances for being a pillar of society might have increased to low rather than no likelihood. |

Just a couple of question if you can answer them as stated...
1. If you were flat on your back and a person was on top of you punching your face and you had a gun in your hand, what would you do? 2. If you were flat on your back and a person was on top of you punching your face and you had nothing in your hand, what would you do? Try to be honest. |
Here one for ya...
All else being equal if GZ would have shot TM in the leg and he survived, what charges would TM be facing? Aggravated battery? |

2. Try to throw the person off. I agree with the Zimmerman jury, however, a 17 year old kid still is dead with parents still grieving. Zimmerman was hardly in the right to use deadly force in this situation. There will probably be a wrongful death suit coming from the family of Trayvon Martin and I hope they get a jury as fair as this one. Doubt if Zimmerman will like that verdict. |
GZ doesn't have any money or assets. If he gets a $10,000,000 judgment against him a $500 bankruptcy will rid him of that debt.

Shoot in the air past someone sitting on me who is smashing my head into concrete after knocking me down with a punch? Might as well just give him the gun because he's going to take it away from me. Hypothetically, use me as the victim. I'm over 60 and female. Should I shoot into the air and try to squirm away? |

My perception of the population that participates on TOTV is changing dramatically. :(

That's a different situation for a woman. And from the trial it seemed like Martin pushed Zimmerman's head against the concrete maybe once or twice. It still is not clear to me when Martin knew Zimmerman had a gun? Was this in a holster? Tucked in his shirt and covered up by it? A stun gun would have been a much better weapon for Zimmerman to be carrying. |

A lot of people are probably reevaluating their opinion of The Villages, IMO. Thank goodness, Gov Scott was fired up and ready to go to prevent any demonstrations from taking place last night. Scott was the one who stepped up to the plate and appointed the special prosecutor, Angela Corey (R-Duval). |

[QUOTE=janmcn;708119]A lot of people are probably reevaluating their opinion of The Villages, IMO.
Why??? because we are human and have strong opinions, because we believe in the jury system, because we can see beyond the race baiting in this tragedy and look at the evidence. I highly resent the patronizing attitude that because we believe differently than you we must somehow be deficient and not what you think The Villages should be. I think the biggest difference between your thinking and the rest of ours is we welcome all opinions, not just the ones that agree with us. |

The one thing in this area of discussion, ie., those folks posting that really has irked me is the posters on here posting guilt and innocence BEFORE any trial and with no evidence and actually while the police investigation was still in progress. Folks actually ROOTING for one or another side as if it were a sporting event. I have read posts on here WAY BACK EARLY ON that were almost lifted from the tv screen and MSNBC...almost word for word. Folks telling others how to think and what to say. THAT bothers me about Villagers for sure, and you are so correct. Folks only care about one opinion and that would be theirs. Ask a civil question of a poster that has an answer that may make them uncomfortable they simply ignore such question. All of us have notions, ideas, beliefs and many of us feel strongly. You cannot change those feelings and that is not what I suggest. The problem is, we have no political board any longer but this has been a political issue and it should never have been...it should be about the LAW and nothing else. It is not over folks....not even close. Zimmerman may have been found not guilty but the chase will continue. I was living parttime in Tampa when this took place and so much discussion on the street concerning another racial killing in Jacksonville where a mentally retarded white man was beaten to death by 4 black males and they admitted it was because the guy was white.......CNN actually made mention of the case but never mentioned the color of anyone's skin or the motive in the killing. Those criticizing Villagers, and making dumb statements about questioning the folks who live here need to get out a bit. A very very small portion of Villagers post or read this TOTV, sorry....but it is just a fact of life. Because someone has a gun, legally.....why does that disqualify them as a Villager in some way ? Because someone believes in the neighborhood watch system......why does that disqualify them as a Villager. Because someone thought Zimmerman was not guilty and should now be left alone..why does that disqualify them as a Villager? Lots of judging going on that is for sure !!! My interest is the politics of this....I trust the judicial system...not perfect, but I trust that most times they get it right.......my postings were about the political interference into the investigation and the continued interference. I would have ignored this thing entirely but I know how the investigation was just plain taken off course by politics and that really bothers me...obviously more than most I guess based on the comments but if we allow it to continue and this has no left or right bias to it.......we really really have more serious problems in this country than I thought. If that makes me not qualified to live in The Villages, where I have been for 13 years....ok.....but I am not questioning anyone else as others want to do. I do not have that right as others seem to feel they do. |

Angela Corey

Alan Dershowitz from Harvard Law just stated during a interview w/Huckabee on Fox that Angela Corey is the worst prosecutor in the 50yrs that he's been in law practice. Now that's saying something!! He also thinks she should be disbarred..also that this case should never have been brought to trial and that they should've convened a grand jury, and he said it was a case of self defense.

The more we try to be "people pleasers" we simply lose ourselves....... Everyone is entitled to their own opinions as far as I'm concerned. Sometimes, we just can't decide.........or sometimes we can literally see and understand both sides.........that is a gift for sure. Up here we are more plain spoken and don't try to embellish the truth of how we actually feel. Phoniness is one of my pet peeves.......so I try to just say it like it is at the moment. |

Maybe GZ should've stayed in the car
Maybe TM shouldn't have been out buying 2/3 of the ingredients needed to make purple drank (Google Trayvon Martin Drank for explanation/definition) Maybe some high-profile outsiders shouldn't have made this a race issue Maybe the media should've been unbiased and responsible Maybe the Sanford, FL police chief who lost his job correctly performed his duties at the time after all Maybe the Miami Heat team photos in hoodies in support of TM was premature Maybe this, maybe that. Too many maybes and too many could'ves, would'ves, and should'ves...all combined to make the matter an embarrassment on so many levels. |
ain't it so, GM? and on goes the fallout...

I found this interesting and revealing. There were obvious political agendas to bolster and protect:
"The Florida State Attorney's office has fired information technology director Ben Kruidbos, who raised concerns about how the prosecutors in the George Zimmerman trial turned over evidence to the defense. According to Kruidbos' attorney Wesley White, the former IT director was let go Friday by the state's top prosecutor, Angela Corey, for allegedly violating "numerous State Attorney’s Office policies and procedures." Kruidbos, who testified in a pretrial hearing in the Zimmerman case in June, said that he had reason to believe that additional information found in Trayvon Martin's cell phone had not been turned over to the defense. Kruidbos said more than 2,000 photos from the phone were not shown to defense attorneys, including pictures of underage naked girls, images showing piles of jewelry on Martin's bed and photos of Martin blowing smoke. Kruidbos' termination letter stated, in part: "It has come to our attention that you violated numerous State Attorney’s Office (SAO) policies and procedures and have engaged in deliberate misconduct that is especially egregious in light of your position.” According to HLN legal experts, while Kruidbos' firing will not affect the jury's verdict, his testimony could be raised in the defense's request for sanctions. It could also be brought up in Zimmerman's appeal if he is convicted...." IT chief fired after raising concerns in Zimmerman case | HLNtv.com |

Neither of you got it or get me. I was suggesting that neither statement was likely, and that George Zimmerman was unlikely to kill again and that Trayvon Martin had some bad things happening to him including his choice of girlfriends and being thrown out of school. And the rest just kinda hurts. Being phony and people pleasing. I try to be honest and diplomatic. But I am from the middle of the country. Sometimes regionalism gets in the way of good communication. Using more words doesn't always get the job done and it does help to read to the end. And since I live here and have friends here and know their views and those views may differ from mine I try not to say things in a challenging or hateful way. |
