Favorite square entertainment?

We enjoy Dan Story Band, Scooter the DJ and Rocky and the Rollers? Who are your favorites?

livsea2 07-24-2013 05:37 AM

Uncle Bob's rock shop

Hands down.

Golfingnut 07-24-2013 05:38 AM

Rocky and the Rollers

CLARK BARRIOS ,any band he is in..:BigApplause:

bkcunningham1 07-24-2013 06:09 AM

My favorite entertainment is watching the people. The dancers, the line dancers, the two-steppers, the 90-year old man who breaks dances, the children, the couples, the singles, the groups, the smiles, the laughs, the golf carts...

mac9 07-24-2013 07:02 AM

By far, Petrina. Lively non-stop show AND she is a great singer!

Me too.

I haven't ever seen or heard Rocky and the Rollers. I HATE crowds and seat saving.

Dr Winston O Boogie jr 07-24-2013 07:51 AM

Uncle Bob's Rock Shop is the best. The Dan Story Band, Rocky and the Rollers, are all good, but it's getting stale. I've seen everyone several times now. It's time for some new bands. Three for the Road was good. I'd like to see them back.

Please get rid of the DJs and Karaoke singers, or what we like to call "button pushers". It's supposed to be live entertainment.

gregntam 07-24-2013 08:00 AM

Uncle Bob's Rock Shop is our favorite, a real live band playing music from 70s-90s. Not pre recorded music with vocals.

JIMROY 07-24-2013 08:33 AM

I like the newer bands:
Mpire, Rick Melvern, Old school Band, Musikology,
Snapshot, and of course Clark Barrios Band and Street Talk
as regulars............

John_W 07-24-2013 08:48 AM

It seems we only go if any of these are playing; Uncle Bob's Rock Shop, Yesterdaze, Cactus Jack & the Cadillacs, Dan Story Band, Street Talk or Petrina.

Petrina is the only solo act I can handle because she plays contemporary hits which I know nothing about, so it's like new music to me. Rocky and the Rollers are good if you only see maybe once a year. Clark Barrios I can handle after his first set is over, he thinks his first set at 5:00 that he should do a Frank Sinatra, Michale Bubla, Harry Connick Jr. set for the older crowd. Once that is over he is alright. Cactus Jack doing Born to be Wild was the heaviest song I've heard done, Yesterdaze doing White Rabbit was the most psychedelic. The funniest is the solo act, "Just Mike", he entertaining but that can only go so far. The most over-rated is Scooter the DJ, he's just a DJ playing songs I've never heard for the most part and he's not funny, but thinks he is.

Yet to hear anyone do Stairway To Haven.

Uncle bob's rock shop is the best. Mpire is also very good. If you don't have a drummer, don't call yourself a band, glorified karioke sucks.:BigApplause:

Petes 07-24-2013 10:25 AM

Petrina - Just full of fun.

sandybill2 07-24-2013 11:17 AM

Doc Holliday Band is wonderful---- Love them----really enjoy it when Jessie Daumen is with them playing the fiddle. Very talented group. Also enjoy Petrina--she is such an entertainer. My husband and I love all kinds of music from Blue Grass to Opera---and feel so fortunate to have such good entertainment at the Squares.

zcaveman 07-24-2013 11:59 AM

My favorite entertainment is the people dancing to the music and the line dancers (in that order). You cannot beat that!!

Z

spk7951 07-24-2013 12:37 PM

Petrina - love the variety and energy that she brings to her performances

For bands we like Mpire and Uncle Bob's Rock Shop

Thanks for the kind words for 3 For the Road, Doc!

If you're looking for an alternative to the squares, Larry Hubbard has started a classic rock and roll club that meets from 6:30 til 8:30 on the fourth Sunday of each month at Laurel Manor Rec Center. Entertainment is provided by Villages residents. BYOB and snacks.
A small group from the Beatlemaniacs will do a half our set this week. Larry will also perform as well as several other Villages residents.
There will be no meeting in August.

gatherer47 07-24-2013 07:14 PM

My favorite group is Village Harmony but they haven't been able to get to play the squares.Rocky will be using them on one of his shows and then maybe the powers that be might notice their talent and book them into one of the squares.Hope so.I like Rocky and the Rollers because they play the most music of anybody.Their first set runs from 5 to 6:30 unlike most groups who do 45 minutes and then take a break.Doc Holliday is great also as are Cactus Jack and his Cadillacs.

DaleMN 07-24-2013 09:07 PM

Most entertaining we have seen is the Caribbean Chillers.

LuckySevens 07-24-2013 10:42 PM

You are right Winston ,I don't leave my
house for Karaoke or lip synk, but I will be at the square spending my retirement funds, when a real band is playng,Rocky is good old time rock,Bobby Blackmon, great Blues, and who ever decided that"Mustang Sally"is a line dance ?

Bosoxfan 07-25-2013 12:25 AM

Uncle Bob's Rock Shop

They're the only band I'll go to see by myself. My wife isn't in to Pink Floyd& Led Zeppelin & most of my friends are older so Rocky & Cactus Jack is what they like. So I've been known to go alone.Classic Rock ...hope to see more of it in the future. The 60s are alright but I'm hoping it runs its course in the near future.

Parker614 07-25-2013 08:04 AM

Agree! Stick with "real" bands!! Glad 3 For The Road is finally back in August!

As a dancer, I look for the entertainment that plays the best music for dancing. We always get a good dancing group to see the Dan Story Band. They are playing 4 times in August so if you haven't seen them yet, come and check them out. They're playing...

4th SS
8th LSL
21 KB's
23 BW

We also like Clark and his various bands, Street Talk, Scooter (for the first hour or so) Mpire, Doc Holiday etc. We'd much rather see the live bands as well and it seems they all do draw a much larger crowd than the singles do with their pre recorded music.

Looking forward to hearing and dancing to the Gator Paw Band tonight for the first time.

Uncle Bob's Rock shop is playing tonight @ Lake Sumter Landing. It's market night and the weather forecast is beautiful.

DougB 07-25-2013 12:10 PM

Best band to play in one of the squares was Foreigner.

Halle 08-23-2013 01:11 PM

Our favorites are Bobby Blackmon and the 3B Band and Uncle Bob's Rock Shop.

We are considering going to see The Dan Story Band tonight at Brownwood, what type music do they play?

Golf-Tinker 08-23-2013 01:57 PM

The Lenny Wilson Quartet. Great jazz. Easy listening. They don't make the cut very often these days. Too many groups competing for too few play dates.

rubicon 08-23-2013 03:51 PM

I gave up on dancing at the town squares because the line dancers dominated the dance area for most of the night. It only grew more crowded as the village population grew. So the only attrition for me now is ambrosia.

Sooooooooooooooooooooo good

ydnar9 08-25-2013 09:33 PM

Doc Holiday Band. We always go when they play.
