How American is Cody's?

It's one of the more populated eating/drinking establishments in the Villages, and it's web address is none other than" codysamerican.com ". It proudly displays auto liscenses from all over the U.S. as well various branches of the military. So why does this all American roadhouse refuse to carry Major League Baseball. That's right. They refuse to pay the nominal fee of $30.00 a month, which would allow their customers the small satisfaction of watching their favorite team play as the world series draws closer. They show plenty of golf, and we all know how exciting golf is to watch, and you can watch soccer played by anonomous teams with anonomous players, but if you ask to tune in the New York Yankees, or Boston Red Sox, or Detroit Tigers you're out of luck. You see they're not interested in baseball or in you watching it at their All American Roadhouse. Now I'm just waiting for management to tell me nobody wants to watch baseball at their bar. That they only want to look at golf and soccer on all 15 T.V.s Our troops in Afganistan get baseball and can watch it if they want, don't you think Cody's could dig deep for 30 bucks a month and support the great American game? Let's send Cody's management a reminder that baseball is as American as you can get, and just maybe someone in Ocala or wherever their HQ is will get it too.

:D I enjoy watching baseball at home!! (This way, I can flip the channel, if my team is losing):D:D:D Plus, highly unlikely, I will slip on peanut shells on the floor! hehehe

I like to watch golf at Cody's. Im going this afternoon.

Bogie Shooter 08-11-2013 06:57 AM

Isn't this one of those "vote with your feet" issues. They don't give you what you want..........go some place else.

BarryRX 08-11-2013 07:05 AM

Not only do they not show baseball, but I don't think they serve hot dogs or apple pie! They have obviously been secretly taken over by communists, fascists, and militant Muslims. I sure hope the NSA is getting this!:a20::a20::a20:

I've only been twice to the new Irish Pub/Restaurant called O'Shea's. It's on Hwy 44 across from Brownsville. The first time I went, when I looked up they had my Orioles on TV right in front of me, I think I counted 14 TV's in the place. They've got a pretty big bar there also.

seems pretty american to me - they don't do it because they don't need to/have to! the place is filled without it, they save $30/mo, and the bar is not filled with folks nursing a drink and watching the game which makes room at the bar for those waiting for a table to grab a drink.

As a long time small business (restaurant/bar) owner, please allow me to relay to you that cable and satellite service providers charge sports broadcast services to businesses per seat or seating capacity. I am sure that the upcharge will far exceed the stated 30 dollars a month, which appears to be a residental rate. There does not appear to be a bias towards golf, just a sound fiscal decision based on current demand.
Incidentally, Cody's Original Roadhouse locations are franchises, so your beef may be with the franchise owner and not the corporate office in Clearwater.

I have the baseball package from dtv and it is more than 30 bucks a month. For a commercial establishment it is much more as stated based on seating capacity same as the nfl package.

The owner of our Codys owns 4 of them. His aren't franchises.

capecodbob 08-12-2013 07:36 AM

If I'm that interested in a baseball game, I stay home and watch it. Chances are the game I might want to watch won't be the one they have on in the bar anyway.
Plus there was a stat on TV a couple of weeks ago that stated you have to watch 3 hours of baseball to see 15 minutes of action. :icon_bored:

asianthree 08-12-2013 09:09 AM

we go to eat not stare at a tv with no sound..but just us

ouatiny 08-12-2013 01:26 PM

you might ask Codys if they carry Court TV as most ball players will be appearing in court headlinning Alex ROD i think the yankess will dominate the court tv

I co-managed one sports bar and owned outright another in the Northeast. I will whole-heartedly concur with two previous posters about the per-seat charge. he restartuant I managed was a very popular place and we had ALL of the events, inluding PPV Boxing and MMA events. Typically, a PPV Boxing match would cost me about $1500.00 for the ONE event. This was all pre-Satellite days, but I can only imagine the costs of the baseball package. O'Sheas is the only place I know of that has the entire baseball package, Cody's, Friday's et al do not.

Everyone has their opinion about what they like to watch, in an eatery or not. I am partial to soccer. I know teams national and international, as well as players. I rarely watch pro baseball, I'll watch the LLWS. Kids playing the sport without prejudice. Enjoy the eatery, the food, the fellowship, a good time was had by all.

I agree. Plus, when we want a quiet meal or one with friends in order to visit, we don't go to a sports restaurant. But when we're grabbing a quick lunch or dinner, it's nice to see what's on the sports channel tvs. We happen to love baseball and enjoy seeing the games while eating. You don't have to have the sound on to follow sports games.

But I didn't know what the price was for baseball channels for restaurants. Wonder what the football cost is, college and pro? Gotta be enormous, and I wonder if baseball would be a drop in the bucket compared to football. (love pro football too.)

tommy steam 08-27-2013 08:28 PM

Amazing they would not have a few TVs showing a ball game. I wonder why? Can't be the cost.
