Tebow cut by Patriots

Tim Tebow's short-lived career with the New England Patriots came to an end today when he was cut. It seems even the master quarter-back, Tom Brady, and the brilliant coach, Bill Belichick, could not help Tebow, IMO. Tebow will now probably have to go to Canada is he wishes to play pro-football, again IMO.

Is anyone really surprised?

Sure knew it was a long shot, but I was rooting for the kid....was personally hoping they would find something that could be cultivated.

I like Tim Tebow's values as far as I know of them but he still has to prove his worth in the NFL. He was good with the Denver Broncos for a while but what happened to him after that? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Tebow I sometimes feel that something else is going on here with Tebow. His stance on virginity and the like could put some people off as well as his wearing his religion on his face with the John 3:16 stuff. http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/...16&version=NIV

I am so saddened by this news. I am presently living in MA. and was hopeful that T.T. would end up on the Pats roster. Sadly is not going to happen. He appears to be such a nice young person who is not afraid to let others know what is important to him. I only wish for good things happen to T.T.

The circus is over

I like TT, but I am glad the circus is over. I hope he catches on somewhere (Canada) soon.

He played well at first for Denver and I too wonder what happen??? You would expect him to get better but for some reason he actually was worse. Mystery to me. Who knows he might do well in Canada and return to the NFL---that is not unheard of!

Like Doug Flutie perhaps? He came back to the NFL after the CFL and made it to the Pro-Bowl!

Seems like people have a weird sense of what 'played well' means.

His stats for that 'good' year in Denver:

Started 11 games - had a 72.9 QB rating - completed 46% of his passes - 1700 yards - had avg of 132 yards per game - threw for 12 td. All numbers are fair to poor for an NFL starter.

I wish him luck but he's going to have to get much, much better to make it in the NFL.

As much as I love Doug Flutie his NFL numbers were equally bad - even when he came back to the NFL.

You gotta wonder what Jacksonville is thinking. The guy will fill the stands. This is about economics, right?

This sports reporter made a good case for keeping Tim Tebow-- Tim Tebow's Past Performance Will Dictate His Roster Spot

At Denver, he did seem to do well in crisis situations in pulling his team from behind.

Still believe there is something else going on with Tim Tebow. Shattered self-confidence, team dynamics, etc. that is keeping him from doing better in the NFL.

janmcn 09-01-2013 08:01 AM

Tim Tebow sent out a really nice tweet yesterday thanking the Patriots owner and coaches for allowing him to be part of such a 'classy organization' and saying he will pray for their sucess in the future.

Right. In Buffalo which needs some kind of quarterback now.

the bigger surprise was that they pick him up to begin with. Seems like a real nice person and does have some talent, but as has been mentioned here he's probably better suited to the CFL. Nothing wrong with that. Look what it did for Doug Flutie.

I really thought that Belichick was going to try to turn him into a wide receiver or running back but who ever knows what is in his head.

I hope that he has a career in football somewhere.

Might not be in Canada either according to Warren Moon. Warren Moon -- Tim Tebow throwing will not cut it in CFL - ESPN

One of the talking heads at the dog park (Doggie Doo Run Run) Bob the Artist had said that Tebow does not have the throwing arm for the NFL and it looks like that may even be more of a factor for the CFL.

Bonnevie 09-01-2013 08:44 AM

I had hoped he would be able to do something to remain in the NFL. Was he resistant to changing positions? his twitter said he will be relentless in pursuing NFL quarterback.....

Not sure why people think, just because he's a good athlete, that a player can just choose to change positions.

Think about it for a minute - Let's say you think he could be a tight end - This year each NFL team has about 3 tight ends on the roster - that's less than 100 players total. That's 100 players in the WORLD who have the skill to be a tight end at the highest level. To say that a player who has never played the position could just switch and make a roster is a slap in the face to the hundreds of other players who couldn't make a team at tight end and were cut. You're saying that Tebow could just step right in and make a team over those players who played the position for 3-4 years in college?

I don't think it's as easy as some people make it out to be. Yes he maybe has a chance but he'd need to get a private coach and work on the skills it takes to undertake that challenge.

The world is littered with great athletes who just can't compete in that top 1/10 of 1% who make a team in the NFL.

Yes anything is possible, but not likely.

Agree with you. Was surprised the Pat's picked him up but thought if anyone one could help him reach his potential it would be this team, whether as a quarterback or in another position. He is a nice young man but that doesn't make him a great player. Hope his 15 minutes of fame isn't over. Hope he finds his stride and a new team soon.

Bonnevie 09-02-2013 08:02 AM

the analysts seemed to bring up the subject of a position change a lot....John Gruden said he'd want Tebow on his team though didn't not say as a quarterback
from what I understand about Tebow, he's very hardworking and team members look admire his work ethic

DaleMN 09-02-2013 09:01 AM

He was a good college QB; never will be adequate in the NFL.
