Do we have preppers here?
I'm just curious if some of you have taken steps to prepare supplies for any contingency in an emergency. It could be weather related, health, economic or totally outside our control. I know it's something you won't want to necessarily share, but generally, are you prepared for 3 days, one month, 3 months, 6 or 12 months? It would be comforting to know most of us have supplies for a substantial period of time should something happen. Perhaps we could share some "how to's".

Simple preparation
Thanks, Quircky for the link. "Senior Citizen" had wonderful sensible replies in that one link. The doomsday preppers are not who I'm talking about. It just seems to me that we all need to accept a mindset of being prepared for perhaps at least a week or two of being off the grid regardless of the cause. It's true the Mormans stockpile, they have regional facilities that prepare for long term food storage. There's one in Orlando. Once you have an excess you just rotate through it. But you are always prepared. That's the feeling I like. Don't want to be caught with my pants down, as my mom would say.

borjo, in case of what, are you thinking? most likely here is a hurricane takes out the power...and there's ample warning--
|
Houses in The Villages are not conducive to stockpiling a lot of stuff, outside of a few gallons of water and jars of peanut butter in case of a hurricane.
As Kitty said, there is always plenty of notice to shop for such events. |
Kitty, supplies in case of pandemic, earthquake, hurricane, illness, banks going under or chemical explosions. Could be worse. I don't want to or be able to provide for my neighborhood, everyone should take responsibility for themselves should the unforeseen happen. We save money in a bank for unforeseen expenses. This is just the same should the supply system be broken to our stores. Everyone differs on how they feel about this. Does it make either of us wrong? That remains to be seen. Let's hope we don't have to find out.

publix looks our for us by making us buy two of everything whether we want it or not.

Bottom line: Do all that a prepper is setting up to do in order to survive on earth and they will receive eternal hell fire for eternity. Now, on the other hand, if I was an atheist, I would load up on ammo also. I personally would prefer death to that. |
No. And after living in Florida for 16 years I ignore the
weather forecasters who love to talk about hurricanes that hardly ever hit. I always have "stuff" to get by but don't go out of my way to "stockpile" anything. I think I did that more when I lived up north in case of snowstorms! |

While general preparedness (extra water, non-perishable food, first aid supplies) for events like hurricanes or electrical outages is just plain common sense, some of these people are flat out loony. And unlike yourself, they often claim to be Christian but seem to have no qualms in killing anyone who appears to even be a threat to their cache. Then again, maybe they're just protecting all that gold the radio talking heads convinced them to buy? :D . |

Don't worry, be happy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we go without power sometimes 10 days at a time..winter not a problem..throw the food outside in a cage...run the fireplace...water is gas...but summer ya gotta cook alot of food in 24 hours...we have a commerical generator..so no problems for us..but i do love when a storm comes in and the grocery looks like they just had a going out of business sale
|
Since I have been in The Villages (4 years), the longest power outage has been fifteen minutes. I do have a few cases of water, lots of canned goods, and always keep the car gassed up. Not a prepper, just using common sense.
How about those folks who buy gold because money will be worthless? |

What??? If the worst happened the neighbor would not be coming over with his hand out -- his hand would have a gun in it and he would be coming over to take what you have, over your dead body if necessary.

I will break it down for those that are confused.
Supplies for two weeks = NORMAL Supplies for a year. = PARINOID No need to argue, it's simple as the above. |
thanks golfnut. I could eat two weeks from what I normally have on hand and have a pool. Guess i'm good then...
I AM neurotic about TP though, so I probably have a 4 month supply of that... |
Now's the time to invest in canned goods and shotguns !!!! :)
