How many visits to T.V. did it take?
I was wondering how many visits it took you to buy in T.V.?
We first looked in 2002, then 2005, did Lifestyle visit in 2009, Then bought in 2013. So for us it was 4 visits over 11 years! |
one day --we came, we saw, we bought 2005
We came, we saw, we bought...about 4 hours.
Coming in Oct hope its that easy
I think it depends a lot on age. We first saw The Villages and thought we were too young, saw again several years later and it seemed more younger people here, (or were we older) a few years later, found house style and lot and bought. Still working on permanent move. A lot to go through. Almost there. We will move all we want and leave rest until house sells. Seems slow here due to sequestration. And general fleeing of MD.
One visit, on lifestyle preview plan. Everyone already here that we spoke with was happy and confirmed that what you see is what you get.
We were here twice within a year and half before we decided
One.
Visited friends that were renting for their second winter. That was January 2012. We came back in February to purchase a lot. Moved in June 2012. Couldn't be any happier. |
Bought on first visit. It felt right on day one
Once to browse, took the trolley ride. Then to do the LSV. Then to buy. Moving in one month expect it to be all we hope for.
Only once for us!
Came for a "lifestyle visit" last year, came home to the UK and put the house on the market, we have recently sold and we hope to be there by November to buy. Yipppeeeee!!! |
1 visit
Trolley ride on a 4 hr visit:2010 / 5 day lifestyle visit:2011 / bought 8/31 - close 9/30! Yipeeeeeeeee!
purchased home on first visit last March, came to visit friends, we went looking at open houses everyday and bought a house even though my husband had never been there and only saw the houses on line. We have been down there 3 times, hubby going down in a week with a friend of ours and then we will be down in mid-December for 3-6 months.
:shrug:just one.
I didn't want to fall in love. but I did. |
1 visit--over Easter weekend--long enough to confirm that everything my sister has been saying for 7 years is true.
If I win the Powerball jackpot tomorrow night I will be in TV on Tuesday to buy a house. :).
One day to decide. Four days to buy a house.
First LSV Dec 2011 for 3 days. Second LSV in July, 2012. Bought resale on the third day.
We had not planned to purchase, just came to "look". Husband walked out of home in Duval and said "I really like this house.". I threw up my hands and said "we are done looking.". And we bought it. Not full timers yet but with each visit to our forever home, it gets harder to leave. We left TV eleven days ago and counting the days until we leave for TV - 14 more days to breathe the air and see the smiles of friends. |
Two...
First visit was a four hour tour, including the sucker bus (aka trolley ride).... at the end of a week of touring around various developments in Central FL. Said we needed to come back in the summer to check out the heat...rented a house for July...only took 7 days to decide this was right for us and find the "perfect" house. This was back in Summer 06 when they were only doing spec houses. Mr 07 was in shock the rest of the month.... he said "I thought we were only coming down to check it out". He has adjusted nicely. |

Came July 2012 to assure we ( i ) could stand the heat
Saw new designers w agent Fri found them too small Met w agent MON to see pre owned designersBought the 2nd one we saw that day, great price! So one visit. We have never even seen the TV commercials on television... Was all word of mouth When my hip 37 yr old Floridian cousin said we should come and see, that convinced us to make the trip. If a young person liked it so much, it must be nice. And sure enough, it is! |
rented twice before we bought
One.
As was said before...we came, we saw, we bought. Listened to everyone on TOTV and brought our checkbook.
Jan 2013 we bought Mar 2013 had Design Mtg May 24th, 2013 we closed! |
I think it was three times for us and buying a lot on the 4th.
The last two times we were able to see 466 conversion to 4 lanes completed and that Buena Vista was starting South of 466. The 4th time there were two or three villages underway, Bonnybrook, Bridgeport at Lake Miona and one other.....no Arnold Palmer yet! That was October 2003 when we picked out our and put down our deposit. Construction started right after the first of the year and we closed in May 2004 and moved in September 2004. Never regreted our choice, never looked back thinking what if, enjoyed every minute since then, watched TV grow from 35,000 to now almost 100,000.....and if we had it to do all over.....we would do exactly the same way and choose the same location. btk |
I love this thread! Please keep the posts coming.
It took us one visit and we were convinced. We came of Bellevue, Washington and things there are expensive! Living in the Villages, we find that we have a lot more room to do things because of the prices.
March 2012 LSV for 5 days, purchased a "one of kind" lot in April, design mtg July and closed October 2012! Living part-time for now.
We came for the first time in May 2004 to the Leesburg motorcycle rally. Hubby was retired but I still wanted to work. Told him this is where we will retire when the time comes. Spent 6 years looking, visiting occasionally for long weekends and did the LSV a couple times. A run in with breast cancer made me decide it was time to retire and get to enjoying life. Closed on our house in GA and was down here the next day and bought the day after that. No regrets!

drooney60 - interested to hear how you adapted to the humidity. We live in Kingston Wa & are looking into TV. Our friends here tell us we will find the weather too muggy. We're getting tired of the gray winters here.
We came for one day to rule out TV since we decided that we needed to be near the ocean. We returned later that week and bought a resale with a pool.
We were strong! We came, we saw, we played, we met great residents, spent time with a fantastic sales rep but we went home and THEN caved in within 24 hrs!
But we technically got home without buying!!! We were "sold" but hadn't admitted it!!! Now we wonder why it took us so long! Haha! |
At first it was real hard to wake up everyday in the morning to sun! Yes, it does get humid, but all you can do about this is stay next to a fan. It's also hard to get used to no mountains and trees. But in the long run, we think that we made the right decision. The villages is like Utopia. I'm sure you will enjoy it if you give it a chance. There is a ton of things to do here! When are you moving in?
Originally we did the usual thing, Disney World and other stuff. We didn't care much for Florida. We were going to retire to Pinehurst, NC with 8 Championship golf courses, great tennis facilities etc. Our friend who is so meticulous traveled all up and down from NC to Key West trying to find the right retirement area for them. When they decided on The Villages, we visited them for a few years, loved the place on the first visit but was wondering about the summer. Taken two LSV and finally decided to buy in late 2010 and bought in early 2011. Snowbirds for a while but became Froggies a month ago. Total 5 years. So far so good knowing now we can survive the summer here.
