Southern Lifestyles and Showcase Direct Closing

I know it's true, but has anyone else heard this? City Furniture bought them out and is taking over by November.

I heard the same thing. The store is sold!

Marigold 09-16-2013 05:58 PM

Not happy to hear this. I told my friends who are going to move here how GREAT the service is at both stores. On the day we closed all we had was an aero bed to sleep on while we waited for our moving van to arrive in four more days. We went to Southern Lifestyles and ordered a kitchen set which would be delivered in a month. Our salesperson , Sissy, asked what we needed. Since our moving van was coming soon, we really only needed something to sit on. Sissy had a kitchen set delivered that very day for us to use until ours came in. We purchased many things in that store.
Our Showcase Direct salesperson, Nathan is also one of the best. From the sales to delivery, our experiences have aways been top notch. I hope that it continues that way.

laceylady 09-16-2013 06:20 PM

Wow! So sorry to hear this. We furnished our whole house from Southern Lifestyles last year. I'm not from Florida. How does the new store compare to Southern Lifestyles re quality and beachy, colorful furniture?

ilovetv 09-16-2013 06:35 PM

It was bad enough when they moved Southern Lifestyles over to Canal Street and two different buildings, with the no-walls display look of a mattress outlet, and less than half the furniture on the floor to see and evaluate in person instead of guessing from a catalog.

To turn that beautiful Southern Lifestyles space into TV sales/marketing offices instead of retail or restaurant has dealt a big blow to the square. What are they thinking????

NOBODY likes the setup at the "new" store on Canal St. and some of the key salespeople quit. The last time I was in there, about 3 weeks ago, there were two young women and one young male standing around at the desk, in a gum-chewing and gossip session. The door to the janitor closet in the back hallway was hanging open with janitorial stuff literally falling out. When I mentioned to them this looked very bad, they laughed and went on with their chatting. This was not the Southern Lifestyles we knew by buying most of our furniture there.

I hope City Furniture is not a cheap outfit with crappy brands. And I hope it's true that as salespersons have said at Showcase and SL, that a new SL store would be built at Brownwood.

Villager411 09-16-2013 07:10 PM

I heard the Brownwood building is no longer. City Furniture is big in the Miami area. They carry lower end products and to me, it is not the beachy feel like SL. We have such a pleasant experience whenever we go in, I feel bad for all those nice employees.

I bought furniture from City Furniture in Stuart a few yrs ago and their furniture is beautiful, for those that love the Beachy Style (like I do) they have really good quality items. They are 1st Class, not to worry!

i am going to miss them

You think the developer is starting to pull up stakes?

... and another NO. He's an astute businessman, he still gets the rent from the building without the headache of employing people to staff it. I don't for one moment think he will allow a cheaper and lesser quality product to come into TV because if they fail he loses rent.

developer rented them space...when the downsize happened in LSL..it was due to the rent...now its a wait and see about a new company...furniture sales around the country are at an all time low...people now order furniture online...

No, they own all the leased commercial property and built a live-in customer base of 100,000+ who don't want to go elsewhere. They're sitting on a gold mine.

justjim 09-16-2013 09:42 PM

As TV moves closer and closer to build-out, I suspect you will see a number of changes.

maddie101 09-16-2013 09:47 PM

I don't see many designer collections on this site. I hope the store has more to choose from.

mac9 09-16-2013 11:00 PM

And just what happens to all of those "warranties" that they sold? One of their warranties is that if you bought 2 matching pieces of furniture and something happened to one and the fabric was no longer available, the would redo both pieces in the same fabric.

True, he will lose the rent money but will have a great business loss deduction. No lose situation.

jblum315 09-17-2013 04:04 AM

Sorry. Southern Lifestyles was one of the best things about TV. They furnished the model homes. They had your furniture ready to deliver the day you closed. I think this is a bad thing.

graciegirl 09-17-2013 06:27 AM

Sorry. I got a little carried away.

I see Bernhardt. Bernhardt is very high end.

Did you see Broyhill or more affordable lines?

Usually if a store can carry Bernhardt, they can buy and sell from all different furniture lines that anyone would want.

That's my worry too! I am sure they will tell us that City will take over the warranty but I doubt they will in the end.

City Furniture delivers the day you need it also, they did for me at my condo in So.Fl. Their stores are huge and any kind of price point for your wants & needs. I saw my furniture in Southern Lifestyles, btw.

Yes, I saw Bernhardt as the only true designer furniture. No Lexington, hooker, etc. I know exactly what I want and the current store carries all of it. I am just not ready to order yet. Yes, maybe they will special order.

Closing????

I was so disappointed when Southern Lifestyles moved, and now this???? I have purchased a number of pieces from them in the last six months & found that you could not beat their prices either on the web or from NC. If this rumor is true, thank goodness I bought from them before this happens. I also have one of their refundable warranties on a leather couch I purchased....will be interesting to see how these are handled!

asianthree 09-17-2013 08:52 AM

the online site has lots of dark woods and fabric...hope there is something light in the stores

buzzy 09-17-2013 09:55 AM

Never found anything to buy at the West Palm Beach store.

Steve & Deanna 09-17-2013 10:08 AM

We moved into an empty home a few years ago with our cat, a king mattress and a small kitchen table set, we shopped and shopped and decided to go to Southern Lifestyles. We decided on four different sets, dining and bedroom, and four different times, our sales lady came back to say that they were out and an order would take eight weeks. We ended up buying most of our furniture at Showcase Direct. The service was extraordinary as we returned several times. We finally did buy end tables and a coffee table at Southern Lifestyles and they too had excellent service. Fortunately, we are all set now but it's sad to see them go. I hope City Furniture will hire these people that served the other stores so well.

cbh1975 09-17-2013 10:21 AM

They're going away? Completely?

This is very disappointing news.

ilovetv 09-17-2013 11:27 AM

Well this certainly will send a lot of TV home buyers over to Babette's Furniture in Leesburg. They have most of the nice brands and varied price ranges that Southern Lifestyles and Showcase have, with free delivery.

They also have more of the furniture on the huge showroom floor so customers don't have to guess as much in a catalog.

Not a good way to keep our hometown, true "downtown" retail district intact.

sharoni 09-17-2013 11:33 AM

Anyone know a date? I guess my husband and I should be grateful our new CYV came furnished from those two stores. We did add a couple extra pieces from Southern Lifestyles and Showcase. Glad we bought when we did in April, with both stores changing and the price hikes on the new CYV with no discount...

justjim 09-17-2013 11:48 AM

Wife and I purchased a lot of furniture from Family Furniture U.S. 441 in Leesburg----it use to be Furniture Country and they are on the right side just before the Airport. A very nice store with terrific salespeople.

Portia 09-17-2013 11:51 AM

I just called Showcase Direct about the 5 yr warranty we just paid for on our new furniture and was told it would still be honored and that the staff that works there were all just told yesterday about the store being sold...

I had the same question. All post #1 says is "by November." This is not a date. It's an approximate time frame. It would be helpful to know if it's going to happen at the end of October or sometime in November. If November, will it be closer to the 1st or the 30th?

rubicon 09-17-2013 02:49 PM

It would be worth knowing if the sell included both purchase of assets and liabilities (warranty included)

cquick 09-17-2013 03:43 PM

I'm sorry too. I think their furniture is so nice and the salespeople are so helpful, and there are so many different styles to choose from.

gingersnap 09-17-2013 03:51 PM

We had items delivered from Showcase Direct about a month ago and the delivery boys mentioned then that City Furniture had bought out the "delivery" company they were employed by which was a separate company from the two stores. They had just been informed of that and were upset that they were going to loose their Villages perks. We were in Showcase Direct yesterday, if I had known this info regarding the store then, I would have asked about the extra warranty that I purchased on the sleeper sofa that I have ordered. I guess I will visit "Jen" our favorite sales consultant @ Showcase Direct for further info.

schrdr 09-17-2013 04:17 PM

We just bought a bedroom set at Showcase Direct. We are in Wisconsin and we were told that they would hold delivery until November when we return.

I haven't got a hold of my sales person but I am really concerned with this turn of events.
