World of Beer

I just had a flight of Belgium beers at World of Beer. They were delicious, but I must be allergic to them, because now I'm feeling a little phlegmish!

"Phlegmish" must be a Belgian word borrowed from the old Flanders. Does it mean full but happy!

Took some family visitors on the trolley ride yesterday. The guide said World of Beers is looking at knocking down the wall and expanding to the store next to it.

Good idea, because it is too small. There will be a huge onslaught of people over Christmas and into December. And at Thanksgiving....and Halloween.....and Columbus Day.....and every night in this lively place.

MikeV 09-17-2013 08:19 AM

Way to small and no way to put your name on a list. We stood in line to eat at the door. Food was OK for bar food.

asianthree 09-17-2013 08:31 AM

glad they are serving flights...great way to try many beers and not fall down

buzzy 09-17-2013 10:00 AM

Not impressed with the bratwurst slider. I think the pretzel roll spoiled it for me.

Anybody try the grilled cheese sandwich yet?

Do they have braunschweiger sandwiches with grainy mustard and thick onion slices on good rye bread?

I am making myself hungry. Mein Gott.

Too small

The bottom line is that it is way too small for the amount of patrons and it will just get astronomically worse in the winter. It already takes 45 minutes to an hour to get a beer, and that is if you have a seat. It is nearly impossible to get service if you are standing as you cannot get to the bar area at all as their is little walking room. We were very excited about the huge choices of beers, but it is frustrating if you can't get service or even a seat for an hour. They really needed to make it four times the size IMHO as I don't see how they can fix the service and wait problem now.

justjim 09-17-2013 12:19 PM

We haven't been there yet but went to one in Tampa area---it wasn't large either. For sure, will not wait an hour for a beer or a seat.

dewilson58 09-17-2013 03:46 PM

A place for a beer, not food. Our food was good, but not much of a selection to draw us back. I did enjoy a funky beer. I agree with a lot of the posts......way too small.:mmmm:

buzzy 09-17-2013 04:46 PM

Sounds like you could bring your own beer and mingle with the crowd, and nobody would be the wiser.

The cooler may give you away.

Might as well bring your own sandwich too. If someone asks you how the sandwich is, you can say, "It's very good, just the way I like it." :)

I'd suggest you not drink that Belgium beer, but then I'd have to waffle on my own opinion.

graciegirl 09-18-2013 04:50 PM

When you have the problem with a place too small it is a good problem.

Filled and buying, a restaurant or bar owners dream.

dewilson58 09-18-2013 05:28 PM

A dream can become a nightmare very quickly with dissatisfied customers.

ATTENTION !! I have a very Capitol idea for all beer lovers ( World ) and Otherwise..Go to the Beer Section of Publik their you will find a wide variety of beer.. Yes wait for it now, a very wide selection ( World ). Pick up as many as you want, then take a stroll down the "Savory" isle pick up your Pretzels/Chip/Peanuts now your all set..right..no, no not fast you say WHY ???? You want ATMOSPHERE Yes ATMOSPHERE Lot's of People, Noise, Crowds, Strangers, Sweaty Environment Yes.,Yes..

SOLUTION : Your Local Recreation Center/The Swimming Pool/ The Neighbors..All kinds of people....INVITE THEM ALL...YES, YES... Problem Solved !!

You now have a Neighborhood World Of Beer...That YOU, Yes YOU... " CREATED "

I come up with the most simple solutions all of the time..

Hey, how much is a flight of beers? Would that be a twelve-pack? Just askin'. We're Manhattan, Rum & Coke and occasional ale people.

dewilson58 09-19-2013 04:40 PM

Flight

If I remember correctly, a flight is about $8.

rubicon 09-19-2013 06:02 PM

I have to admit I don't know what a flight means?

I have to admit that a place that specializes in beer doesn't catch my fancy.

I have to admit that being too small is a good thing to me as it reduces the number of DUI's car and cart drivers in The Villages

I have to admit that being too small is a good thing to me as it reduces the number of drunks committing many foolish and risky acts.

I have to admit that being too small is a good thing because it makes The village safer and saner.

Perhaps the name of the establishment should have given you an indication of inventory criteria.

Went with the GF last Saturday night. Intentionally did not arrive until 10:30pm to avoid the early to bed crew. Nice manageable crowd with I would say less than 5% TV'ers .... lots of younger locals.

Tried a couple of good brown ales that were new to me (and I have sampled a LOT of them) .... GF was drawn like a moth to the flame to Cigar City Jai Alai IPA (always a solid choice) .... watch the last of the late/W. coast collage games and closed the joint down at midnight (I would guesstimate that we were 2 of 50 at closing)

Some issues with the wait staff ... but trust they will work that out. Saw that they have everything in place for some live music. Hope like hell they bring in good bands that play original music and not more of the cover band pablum that is the norm for the "squares"

Do not fear for the longevity of WOB .... they will do just fine.

This is The Villages. You could serve free lobster and Kobe beef and dissatisfaction would boil over.

stephsan 09-22-2013 01:54 PM

Now that's funny!!!

You got that right! As for me, I'm loving this place. Bottom line, go where you are most happy.:D

jbdlfan 09-22-2013 05:59 PM

Went to WOB last night at 6pm. Walked right up and got a seat at the bar. Instant service and the staff was fantastic. Had the pretzel(the size of your head) and pickle chips. Both were good. Tried several beers and all were great. Loved the beer mixes they provide. We will be back. By the way, it was definitely a younger crowd. I would say close to half were 20-40.

At WOB a flight of beers consists of 4 small glasses of different types of beer. If I remember correctly, the Belgium flight was $14 and the flight of local florida beers was $10.

lots of beer - not enough food selections

World of Beer is not a restaurant. Some of their locations have no food selections at all. This one is catering to The Villages crowd with a minimus selection.

First off it's craft beer, so don't expect Red sauce prices. before five bottles are discounted, after five drafts are discounted.
.

Golfingnut 10-20-2013 02:24 PM

I like beer to much to go to this establishment. I would need a co-signer to be able to pay the bill.:ho:

leftyf 10-21-2013 07:28 AM

We went and got a table immediately because it was only about half full. After waiting for about a half hour and nobody even came to our table, the 4 of us got up and left. The waitress came up to us on our way out and just said "I'm sorry." We won't go back.

hampton 10-21-2013 08:02 AM

525 varieties??? I went there first week of opening looking for a specific craft beer from New Hampshire (Smuttynose) I was disapointed it was not on the menu and did not stay. I understand there might be other ales out there as good but I was just looking for some back home taste.

It might benefit you to keep checking in as World of Beer rotates the beers that they offer. It also might not hurt to see if you can hook up your favorite brewery with World of Beer. With over 2,000 craft beer in just the states, it is hard to please everybody, all of the time.

This happens often in bars when there is no hostess to direct a server to your table, particularly when the servers are still in training.

dadspet 10-21-2013 10:32 AM

Got there Sat about 1 and outside bar was crowded but we found 2 chairs right away. Order a few mixed beers and waited a bit but it was a pleasant wait watching the crowd of people in the Sq on Sat. Beers turned out to be great but I'm pretty sure we couldn't order another on and drive home ( As a matter a fact the bar tender cut the younger girl off next to us when she had 3 beers and she was fine). Talked a bit with the bar tender > They have to go to 10 days of beer school, 300 started and only about 20 to 40 made it through. Bar tenders clearly know their beer. He did indicate that this was the only location that served food since they wanted to cater to the Villages. The sandwiches looked good (we didn't try them) the pretzel was big but pricey. Several people were trying the flights. If you tell them the type of beer you drink they will tell you their recommendations (and it won't be coors, miller or budwiser etc), and I got a feeling you won't remember what they said and it won't matter since they will probably replace it in a few days with something else you never heard of. They do have specials during the week and they change the beer menu every day or two days. I got a feeling the line waiting to get into this place in Jan, Feb , March will make them wish they made the Sq larger. Oh Don't forget to bring you CC, you will need it but I'm not sure you will mind it.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... I'd go there for that.

jimbo2012 10-21-2013 12:59 PM

Went twice, it's a nice place too small, beers are a bit higher except a few but it makes sense for what they offer and have to maintain in stock.

Ordered flat bread things they were very different, no consistency at all.

Two folks with us ordered another round they never came, waiter said oh they didn't come? they said never mind after waiting so long

The wait staff needs direction (I don't think there was a manager there) and training, just growing pains.

They need to ramp up quick for more customers.

I'll go back, but if it's crowded just walk over to CF
