Century Link, Prism or Comcast

I presently have Comcast but am intrigued by century link. My monthly cable bill is $210 bundled along with my phone. This is crazy expensive especially with all the channels and nothing good is ever on. Same ole stuff every month. I just would like some feed back on century link to see if I should take the plunge. Any help would be appreciated.

Got rid of Prism and Century link all together picture was not all that good and just inter net was 60 dollars a month with both I was paying 150.00 not good. Went back to Direct tv for like 40.00 and comcast internet for 36.00 granted that price wont stay the same forever but a lot cheaper for now and I got nfl package free with direct tv for this year. Also take a look at ROKU not easy to use but a lot for free you just have to know what you are looking for.

We, too, were getting close to $200 on our Comcast bill....we have the Triple Play Bundle and the "Digital Preferred" package......so many channels that we never watch. I called them and told them that I didn't enjoy paying for channels that are in Spanish (I don't speak it nor do I understand it). I watch maybe 10 channels and that is it. If you bark loud enough they will offer you a different package, maybe less channels, maybe the same package they offer new customers. In MY case I asked to be scaled back to the "Digital Basic" package which still gave me all of the channels we watch except for NATGEO. I haven't received a bill for a full month yet, based on the new package price, but making this change will reduce my bill by at least $30 per mo. In speaking with the customer service associate (more likely a customer retention specialist) I learned that Comcast offers certain "promotions" at different times and by calling them they can "check to see what promotions are available in your area at that time". It's a shame that calling them and complaining about the cost is the only way we ever hear about "promotions". All in all, we have been very happy with Comcast....love the quality of the TV picture (HD) and the internet is very fast. I don't need a landline anymore but getting rid of it will increase the cost of the TV and internet to more than we pay now. So, my advice is to call Comcast and complain....it just might get you a reduced rate. In my case my "deal" is good for two years at which time I was advised to call again!

Thank you all....it was enlightening. I will call Comcast tomorrow and really _itch! Less is best. Their internet is fast I guess. Faster than me anyways. It's just that the movie channels like HBO are always showing dumb movies. Thanks all. I hope to here more.

South of 466A, try Brighthouse

Comcast experience terrible!

I recently signed up with Comcast for internet and phone. The installation wasn't too bad, and things were working, so I decided to go for the triple play, adding cable TV to the mix. That's where things went downhill.

Comcast showed its complete incompetence with cable TV. First off, when they hooked up the TV, I lost the phone and internet for 24 hours. I'll save you the details, but the digital and HD boxes did not work, calling the 800 number cost me countless hours, and on top of that, the billing was incorrect. All calls were handled by India, and they would just switch me from one person to another. I had 3 separate technicians come to the house, and I made 6 trips to the Comcast office over a 7 day period.

I cancelled the TV portion, tried to return to my original setup at $39.99 locked in for 2 years for internet and phone. Problem was, they wouldn't allow that, since I added the TV (which of course never was functional). I was at least able to get the $39.99 for 6 months.

Emailed the VP of customer services, and got a response back saying how they always try to provide the best customer service. What a joke!:grumpy:

Interesting reading all these posts. Doesn't anyone have plain phone on twisted copper wire anymore?

Have that and Vonage VOIP for International free calling and with a DE number so my wife's DE relatives could call toll free. But now practically everyone has free domestic long distance. Got hint from friends we met on World Cruise, officially live in West Palm Beach, but really line in Bahamas. The got Vonage so her kids in Central PA could call her toll free. Now you can get an App to use to make free International calls on iPhone, or free calls anywhere on WiFi.

Talked to DirecTv, they wanted me to go with Century Link, but research showed me Comcast faster. Will need faster for phone, ROKU and streaming sound and video.

Called Comcast and after several frustrating calls someone wrote on my file that I was a troublemaker and wanted to cancel my service which I had planned to do. After that no one wanted to talk to me and gave me the runaround every time I would call I'd get hung up on. Tried to get Brighthouse but they aren't in Hadley. Came to the realization that I'm stuck with Comcast. Finally got them to give me a new package that is a better deal than before.

delima2000 09-27-2013 02:14 PM

We also had the same problem with Comcast.called the 800 number and got a very rude customer supervisor and was told nothing could be done. Then I called a Debbie Brainhard at 904 256-1800 left a message and received a call back from a very nice lady at the office near McDonalds on 441. She went over my bill and gave me a new package which is $30.00 less. She said that if I ever have any more problems that I should come into their office and talk to them directly. So far now I'm keeping Comcast.

We just switched from Comcast to CenturyLink because they were getting too expensive. We have the bundle and Prism complete with 150 channels, HD for life for $134/mo. We are very pleased with the install and the quality of the picture.

delima2000 09-27-2013 05:22 PM

Does that bundle include internet and a land line for the phone. With century link.

Lovey2 09-27-2013 08:06 PM

Had PRISM with Centurylink when we lived in SWFL and continued with it here. Except for a few minor issues initially, we have no problems. I have TV, internet and phone with unlimited long distance for $140 monthly. Had DirecTV before that, which my husband liked, BUT...that bill kept creeping up. I find now my Centurylink bill is stable and between that and cell phones I'm around $200 a month, which is probably as good ad it gets, and I got to keep my house phone, so this works best for us.

Anyone have any info re putting Prism (phone,TV & internet) on suspend/Vacation when snowbird returns to UK

jerseyvillager 09-28-2013 07:36 AM

TV

If you don't watch a lot of TV then just get the CenturyLink Internet or Internet plus phone if there is a deal. You'll need a wifi/wireless network in your home Then purchase a smart box, my favorite, and I have them all, is Roku for under $100. Then get a subscription to Hulu Plus for $8. a month. You will get all the major networks/shows the next day. And more movies than you'll ever watch. Downside you will not get local channels (yet) and you will not get live shows/sports. If you can live with that this is the least expensive set-up you can have. An added feature is that you can wrap in up and take it with for the months you are gone and use it up north - it is a little larger than a hockey puck.

I have a question about the internet speed from CenturyLink. The lady I have been talking to advised that the speed available to me would be 10 MBS. Currently we have Comcast and the download speed is around 16 MBS. Would this reduction in speed be noticeable in regular everyday online web surfing? Thanks in advance for any info.

If you love NFL football go for Directv. You can get every game on a Sunday. I think the first year is free.

Jaggy 10-11-2013 03:03 PM

did you know that the prism dvr is only digital and not high def?
yes comcast is more expensive than the other cable companies, but, you get alot more from comcast. not to mention picture and sound quality and the size of their on demand library. i,also, think that if you are civil to their csr's they will bend over backwards to help you.

Shimpy 10-11-2013 03:25 PM

We went from Comcast to Century and then back to Comcast. We watch a lot of movies and "On Demand" for Century was a choice of about 9 movies compared to Comcast of probably more than 50. Also the Century Link picture froze many times and required a restart, PITA.

No, I did not know that the DVR was not HD. That could be the deal breaker. I guess I'll call the CSR for Comcast on Monday and see if they will in fact "bend over backward". We have been Comcast customers for longer than I care to remember. That's what we had in VA before we moved and we have always been happy with the service. It's just that they DO keep increasing the rates.

We got Brighthouse also.
Have had it in Tampa and like them better then Comcast.

They should allow them to compete north of 466A.
Competition is good for consumers.

Direct TV has the best HD picture by far.If you're a sports fan Direct TV is the way to go.We presently have century link for Internet but are only getting 3 mbps for 39.99 a month. We'll be looking for an improvement in Internet but are very happy with Direct TV

Erijo 10-21-2013 09:38 PM

Comcast did the same nonsense to me when I moved here in Sept. '13. I spent over 7 hours on the phone with them, frustrated and angry at their customer service. They repeatedly hung up on me. After the first hang up, I would ask for the reps name and I'd number , I informed them that I am writing it down, so that if By chance they hung up on me, I had a name for my records. To make a long story short, after multiple transfers to other departments and subsequent hang ups after being on hold for 18-20 minutes, I googled the name and address of the CEO of Comcast and wrote a detailed letter to him directly. My frustration level was so high, that I went right to the top! I sent this letter last week, no answer yet.

BarryRX 10-22-2013 03:56 AM

I say this without any reservation.......Comcast is the WORST company I have ever dealt with in my entire life! From boxes that started smoking, to over 1 hour waits on the phone, to rude and incompetent customer service reps, the list goes on and on. I have caught overcharges on my bill a few times also. I now use them for internet only and have a vonage phone and use century link for cable tv.

BobAllen1290 10-22-2013 08:54 AM

Prism is a product offered by Century Link. They are not two different providers. Prism is only offered in certain areas of Century Link's coverage area, it is not universally available in TV.
