What was your first car
:pop:What was your first car? Mine was a 1961 Ford Falcon. Not a Barrett Jackson collector by any means. LOL It did keep the petroleum industry in business. Fill the oil - check the gas.

Re: WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CAR
It was a 1957 Plymouth. The engine was great, but the wind whistling through the floor board and door required my friends and I to shout at each other. I believe I paid $375 for it in 1965. When the noise got too bad, I bought a 1957 Pontiac convertible and the guy who bought my Plymouth put the engine in a stock car. The stock car raced for several years after that. That Pontiac had 3 2 barrel carbs on it and a chrome accelerator that said "power gas."

Re: WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CAR
1960 Ford Special (I believe that it was a no frills Fairlane). Black on red vinyl.
3 on the tree but i had to get out at many red lights to move the linkage myself! I tore the cross member out when i hit a stump in the woods. |
Re: WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CAR
When I was in high school back in the early 60's, I had a 1936 candy apple red Plymouth Coup with a rumble seat and running boards. It was a "chick magnet" sure brings back a lot of great memories, regrettably I sold it when I went to college.

I had a '73 Audi 100 LS in '77 - '79. If the outside temp was over 80 and you were making a left turn the horn would beep. The speedometer needle fell off. The passenger side window slipped off the frame and wouldn't close. If you got it up in mountains over 5,000 feet (like going to Lake Tahoe) you had to remove the air filter and cover so it could get more air. Other than that it was a great car. . |
1951 Hudson Hornet 2 door Coupe. Straight 6 engine that could move out faster than some V8 Fords of the same vintage.
|
A '51' Plymouth coupe..the polar opposite of a "chick magnet". Swapped even for a black '48' Ford...that was better.
|
I had a 1948 Buick with stick shift. It wasn't pretty but it got us around. We called it the Blue Goose. It burned more oil than gas. Some great memories.

First car
My first car was a 1955 Rambler Country Club. It was two-tone of cream color on the top and sea-green body. The car had the Continental kit of the covered spare tire on the end of the trunk.
|
First car was a 64 Olds Cutlass that was totaled 3 weeks after I bought it by being hit by a stolen car. 2nd car was a 70 Pontiac GTO Ram Air IV
|
1932 Chevrolet sedan. Bought it for $65.00. Had a part time job in a garage and spent all my wages keeping it running. Roof leaked, floor boards leaked so passenger got wet feet if we hit a puddle. Brake cables froze in winter. It was a winner but only way I had to get to high school. Ran it for a couple of years then traded it for a 1932 Indian Scout motorcycle.

My first car - '56 Ford
My first car, at age 18, was a 1956 Ford. Dark green, 6 cylinder, stick shift, roll-up windows, no power steering, no power brakes. Paid $150 for it. Drove it for 15 months and then (even after wrecking it once) sold it for $125 (right before joining the US Air Force).
$25 depreciation for 15 months of driving. Not bad. Try and match that today <g>. Gene ps: I was proud of my car, because I paid for it. Growing up on a small farm and getting only a $4 week allowance (farm work and all), it wasn't easy to save any money (dating on $4 a week?!). Ahhh-my '56 Ford! |
1949 Pontiac convertible, skirts, Olds Starfire spinners, lowering blocks and a gorgeous $29.95 Earl Shieb turquoise paint job. Wish I still had it.
|
A 1966 VW Bug. I got it in 1969 when all my friends were in muscle cars. My girlfriend was not a fan of the car, and a little embarrassed to ride in it. I didn't have it long as I was drafted that same year, so I gave it to my brother who turned it into a dune buggy while I was in Viet Nam. It's was a pretty cool conversion.

1950 Dodge with fluid drive, anyone remember what fluid drive was....gn

A 1949 Plymouth Deluxe (in 1964!). Loved that car. Never had a problem finding it in a parking lot. It was the highest car there.:crap2:

1966 Karmen Ghia. I could wind 1st gear all the way to 7mph!! Top speed of 84 mph. In the winter when you put the heat on, your right leg would be burning hot and your left leg freezing cold! The cramped quarters made olympic gymnasts out of girlfriend and me.

1955 Oldsmobile Holiday two tone blue and white.
I remember driving it wide open at 105mi, though not too often. It was a honey |
'63 Corvair Spyder -- factory turbo! Only car in America that could redline in 4th (that's 120mph -- did that once). Won many a 'streetlight gran prix'...and it got 25mpg. Miss that car!

First car was a 1960 Buick Skylark, midnight blue color.
My dad bought it brand new and sold it to me after he drove it two years. |
1956 Ford Crown Vic, Orange & White, paid $200 in 1963.
1954 Ford Ranch Wagon, Blue, paid $100 in 1963. 1959 Plymouth Belvedere Convert, White, paid $250 in 1963. 1963 Austin Healy Sprite Convert, Red, Paid $1500 in 1964. Went in Army in July 1964 - left them all at my dads house; my younger brother sold/wrecked them while I was gone. . |
My first car that ran was a 1961 Buick Special. Had a V-8, big four barrel carb, and a 3 speed.
Before that a friend and I bought a 1948 Buick Convertible. It had been my father's from 48-54. Somewhere along the line the car stopped running and ended up in a junk lot. We pretty much gave up before we started, it needed more time and money than we had. Pity - it probably would have looked like this: (even the same color) http://i367.photobucket.com/albums/o...8/DCP03220.jpghttp://i367.photobucket.com/albums/o...8/DCP03221.jpg |
1955 VW bug.
|
1962 Falcon with plywood to cover the holes in the floor and no heat. This was during the gas shortage of 1973 or was it 1974? All I know was that my father gave me a can of defroster for the inside of the windows and that I wore 2 coats and 2 pairs of gloves while waiting on line for gas!

1957 Volkswagen Karmen Gia convertible.
|
1965 Ford Mustang. Red with white interior. Wish I had it today.
