Walkers in a Roundabout - accident waiting to happen!

Today as I went west on Odell to Buena Vista (at Seabreeze) I saw some dangerous behavior. As I came 3/4 of the way around the roundabout to go left (south) on Buena Vista, as I came around the final section of the curve, at the opening of my inner lane to exit the roundabout, there were two woman walking IN the roundabout. They were not visible to me before getting close to them because of the shrubbery etc. in the circle's island, and I had to hit the brakes to avoid hitting them. They were taking their time walking in this roundabout lane, too.

Were the tunnels not built for multi-modal use and crossing, by walkers?? They were walking in roundabout lanes when they could have used the tunnels to cross where it's not even safe or allowed for golf carts with motor power to cross Buena Vista. They seemed oblivious to the dangers they were causing themselves and drivers.

Roundabouts are built to keep traffic flowing, not to have to stop because of pedestrians. It could have resulted in a pile-up of cars behind me, or worse, they could have been accidentally hit by a car, which I never want to have haunting me nor victims.

When I read your title, I thought this thread had something to do with Walker mowers. lol

What board are you referring to?

In 4 years I've never seen this. However, I have seen a lot of other strange things in the roundabouts including drivers going the wrong way. If I were going to cross Buena Vista on foot, I would do it well down from the roundabout. I would not use the tunnel. Some of the tunnels are dark and don't leave a lot of room for walkers. You're more likely to get hit by a golf cart because to driver can't see you when transitioning from sun to the dark tunnel. The Seabreeze tunnel already has a visibility problem on the Seabreeze side.

Some pedestrians seem to believe they are invincible based on their risky behavior.

In that same vein I saw a woman stop her Cadillac in the left lane on route 466 get out to pick up a turtle walking to the front of her car. What a set up to have be hit as a pedestrian with your own car

I also saw a woman stopped in the golf cat path talking on the phone.

I guess neither of these ladies were concerned about their safety or that of others.

I've seen this too, and have found it alarming. Not sure about the legality of it, though. On this subject, my wife disagrees with me. She finds walking through the tunnels to be even more dangerous. She's a walker, and I'm not. I think both are dangerous for walkers.

No. This is a CDD form of government.

You need to be informed about CDD'S and Boards. Maybe your not a Villager?

Its obvious I'm not a Villager as you already know this. Not pretending to be either.

My dream retirement location is Boca Grand FL, I love to fish! :-)

Didn't know if you were or not!!! That's why I suggested it. That answers the question, and maybe sometime you will be

I agree that the tunnels are very risky for walkers too, because of the darkness a cart driver's eyes have to adjust to. That's already been discussed on another thread recently. But apparently people think they cannot be accidentally run over, killed nor maimed!!

But to cross Buena Vista by walking IN the outer vehicular lane, at the exit point for somebody coming halfway or 3/4 of the way around the roundabout by car or truck (for whom the roundabout is intended), is insanity.

Why do people refuse to admit there are some things they cannot do safely on foot?

Too entitled to believe that anyone else matters but themselves.
Too arrogant to believe that the rules apply to them.
Too stupid to believe that anything can go wrong.

Well, maybe. But I also see some people who appear to think they are in a self-contained resort, like Kapalua, instead of a real community with businesses, and contractors buzzing around along with the residents. The other day I saw a couple riding bikes leisurely along 466A where the limit is 45 and traffic moves faster than that. They eventually glided across the lanes of traffic to turn left onto Morse against the red light. Not a care in the world.

As a start, a lot can be learned at this site: Village Community Development Districts

Way too nasty a response to someone who made an innocent assumption and supports this forum as an advertiser.

I feel, Bogie was only trying to educate him on how The Villages is ran, being he wasn't familiar, with the running of The Villages. I see no ill intent, what so ever. I'm sure he never meant it that way either.

Today a walker was on Cell phone, dog on a leash, and would not allow me in my cart to stay on the path, she made me to go into traffic, walkers rule??

ilovetv 10-02-2013 11:44 AM

Walking in a 2-lane, 30mph street with a designated lane for golf carts going 20 mph and bicycles, when there is a SIDEWALK right beside them.....it is begging for disaster.

But, these walkers or their survivors will be darn quick about suing the sober, law-abiding, but unlucky vehicle driver.

Does anyone actually know what the specific "rules" or statutes that apply to pedestrians in roundabouts?

GRCS

God's Rule of Common Sense. No Sidewalk...No Shoulder...Continuous Blind Spots

Some folks really don't think!!!!! The other day I was shopping in a large store (not in T.V.) where there was a woman chatting on her phone with an obvious stance of being oblivious to her surroundings. I was browsing amongst the merchandise when she'd appear just walking straight in front of me with my cart. I'd always have to stop so I wouldn't run into her. Finally I was seeing I had to watch out for her as she wove in and out of displays (it was a home furnishing store)...chatting it up, fingering items then going merrily along her way. I found we couldn't browse until this woman was out of range. It reminded me of a YouTube video of a woman texting while walking on a wharf and going right into the water! People do things (talking while walking) and more just being oblivious to their surroundings!!
