Golf cart gate in historic side
Just read in POA newsletter that Leesburg Regional Medical Center is paying to put in a golf cart gate with reader where your ID card will be needed to access passing through to go toward Lowe's and to come back in to The Villages. One of the Developer's contractors will be doing the work. No date given for installation. Not sure if I missed this posting so sorry if redundant.

Here's the article. See p.3 - article titled "Paradise Wall Status":

What we need at that new gate is a Dunkin's Coffee Kiosk. Yea....
|
$.50 per swipe:click: will be added at end the of the month to your amenity bill:gc:
|
The wall would have been better. Predict the gate will be struck down more that it will properly operate. PS Who hands out the ID cards for this gate and to whom are they handed out?

Will it have a push button to open like other gates?
. |
From the POA newsletter -
"It was announced that a Villages ID card reader will be used at the gate and that there will not be a push button option." |

If you don't have a gate pass for your GC you can go buy one. I think mine was $10.00. Well worth it.
|
I find the solution to my liking, but sometimes I am mightily surprised what upsets other people.

I would think there are going to be a ton of tailgating through the gate. One cart goes and the other follows close behind so that the gate doesn't close....if you time it in the right time of day people will be still getting in/out without being a resident or just not having their card on them.

it's all silly to me - but it does prevent anyone from fruitland park pointing a finger and claiming that other 'outsiders' have golf cart access' to the villages. |
i don't find the pass a problem...but that's just me:shrug:

As a former resident of a development next door, Villages of lakeside Landing, and the owner of a streetlegal LSV, and now a resident of The Villages, I really don't understand the reluctance to allow "outsiders" access. I drove down Rainey Trail and entered at Bonnybrook every day for over 5 years. Did I use TV cart paths? Yep. But I also spent thousands upon thousands of dollars each year at the country club golf courses, merchants throughout TV and restaurants. I was there during the very slow summer months helping to keep the businesses going. Decided I wanted more convenience so I bought. Win/Win in my eyes.

:agree: What's that they say about 20/20??? Once again those in charge think 2 steps ahead of the rest of us.

It this the same villages ID that the people at the rec centers have such a difficult time getting the readers to read? And they take the ID and hold it at exactly the correct distance and angle and it still sometimes is a frustration for them? And it is going to work better outdoors with people in golf carts trying to get them just right under the reader. Should be interesting. Perhaps they meant to write a gate card, not a villages ID card but the POA article does use the phrase "villages ID card reader"

Peachie.....How very true....everything you said here...I agree with you! |
In the last (6) months, I have been to "TV" less than (6) times, unless you want to count Publix, Panera's, etc..Your gate doesn't mean a thing to me. I do hope that (1) car vs (2) golf carts in a parking space works out for you small minded people when all the Snowbirds arrive. Unfortunately, there are many people that rely on their carts to get to medical facilities on the wrong side of the tracks that will be effected. I'm very happy I never acquired a taste for KoolAid.

Again, it is most bizarre that The Villages is being attacked because people who have purchased property in Stonecrest feel entitled to the rights for which The Villages resident pay. Good fences make good neighbors certainly applies here. The population of Stonecrest is able to access The Villages in the same manner that residents of Spruce Creek, Del Webb, Lakeside Landing and other communities outside The Villages perimeters. If you really like The Villages, there is always a property for sale so you could truly enjoy the lifestyle that comes with the Morse business model for development. May you enjoy your evening and, BTW, the Packers are playing da Bears tonight if you're looking for entertainment. |
