Golf cart speed
We just got our golf cart and were constantly being passed
by a lot of other carts. Are most people getting their carts to go over the 20 mph speed limit? |

A simple way to check your speed is with a GPS. It is easy to download an app on your smartphone or just take your mobile GPS out of your car. |

Golf cart speed
I think 90 per cent of golf carts can go over 20 and about 50 per cent of people drive them over 20. Driving on the roads there are speed traps set up but on the paths along Buena vista and morse you can go a little faster than 20 if you wish. No enforcement on paths because of private property.

I have found that going 90 to 100 mph in my golf cart makes it hard to turn.
From 80 to 90 mph it is hard on the windows. from 70 to 80 mph it is hard on the floor matts. from 60 to 70 mph it is hard on my hat. from 50 to 60 mph it is hard on my golf club covers they seem to come off. from 40 to 50 mph it is hard on bumps. from 30 to 40 mph it is hard on my eyes. from 20 to 30 mph it is hard on my breaks. from 10 to 20 mph I can see the flowers enjoy the ride and relax. |

Most carts do not go over 20mph - certainly not 90% My cart goes 20 and I get passed a couple times a week .
Sounds like your cart is slow if you are getting passed a lot. I would check the speed using a GPS and then contact your dealer. |
Other peoples' golf cart speed is certainly something I lose sleep over.LOL.

I asked at numerous golf cart shops if they could adjust my speed or tell me how to adjust my speed but they all said no. I downloaded an app that worked on my iPhone that said I was going 18mph which I thought was way to slow so I took matters into my own hands and looked on line for a video on how to adjust the speed governor on a Yamaha golf cart and reset it to a more appropriate speed. It was EXTREMELY easy to do. As an aside, the guy at Carts and Clubs said they set their carts to 24mph which personally I think is too fast but I think they also have a speedometer that is "standard" so you can see how fast you are going. Personally I don't want a speedometer because I don't want to think about my speed except to know that when my peddle is to the metal I am going the top speed I have preset myself and tested with my iphone app. |

What is done for those who go 15mph or slower????
|
My cart has a digital speedometer and I was doing 19 to 20 mph
and people were tailgating so I finally pulled over to let them pass. Was just wondering if I was the only "slow" one out there. I personally think it's fast enough so you can enjoy the pretty Scenery every where you go in T.V. (But must you tailgate?) |

My cart is probably one of the faster ones in the Villages but I don't tailgate , I don't pass until it's safe to do so. I m perplexed. Why is everyone concerned about me getting a ticket? Are you all going to pay it for me?

It is not a question of whether you agree with me unless you dispute the facts that a golf cart that is capable of going faster than 20 mph is an illegal unregistered vehicle and as such cannot be insured against liability. |
I think this is a misconception, you cart must go 20mph to travel on any road that has a speed limit of 35mph or less. now there is another law that states no company may sell a device (motor, programmer) that allows a cart to travel faster than 25mph. Now these cart paths may have different rules depending on the state or part of the state you live not sure which supersedes the other.
but to say a cart is limited to a single mph (20) seems a bit tight. Now how many of you same people have cars that exceed the posted speed limits posted on the highway? maybe you should complain about this also. Most LSV's including golf carts that were made for LSV use had a speed limit of max 25mph including the Villager which has been produced since 2001 or 2002. Now a slight incline may cause a cart with a small problem to slow and a cart with new batteries cables to go a bit faster and pass but the actual speed may be well within the limits of the law, you need to have the facts first (reality check) before complaining. |
Actually I also lose sleep over people saving chairs at the squares and other pointless items I have no control over. I quess I'm worried to death.

against anything that goes on in T.V. |
Steve is correct according to Florida law. All you have to do is google the law to see how Florida defines golf carts. If you are in an accident with your golf cart and it is set higher than 20 miles an hour you are not covered under regular golf cart insurance. Ours was set by The Villages Golf Carts. They absolutely refuse to set it higher (actually I think the maximum speed on ours is set for 19.5). They do this because they will not accept the liability for faster carts.

and the rest of us learn from them because we will be left out in the cold if we don't adapt. |
The people passing me were going more like 25, because
they passed and far out distanced me quickly. FYI. |

What if you were really going 15 now how fast were they going 20
its all relative do you have a calibrated speedometer are you sure your cart is working perfectly? |

You can have your cart's speed altered. Easily. But don't come cryin' to me. AND... Do NOT tailgate me. I carry a supersoaker. |

graciegirl do we really need to start the name calling shame on you, you should know better. |
graceygirl is this a picture of your cart its a par car lifted with larger tires, par cars have 400 to 500 amp controllers are capable of going 24 mph stock yours maybe 25-26. stock club cars and ezgo's have a 250 to 300 amp controllers and can be set at 19.6 if there is anything slightly wrong it will not do 19.6.
This is the picture you posted in the show your cart post 3 or 4 posts below this one. |

As one who has been a resident of TV for the last eight years, it appears to me that there are more folks going faster than 20mph than in previous years. I don't have an answer for the speed of golf carts any more than the speed of cars on Interstate 75. You drive the speed limit on I 75 and most every car and truck passes you. Maybe a sign of the times, no? Something to think about----if most people are ignoring the law----could it be a bad law? It seems to me you enforce the speed limit but it seems a "bad law"/unfair law" to ticket someone just because his/her cart can/could/capable of going more than 20mph. These carts we are driving are "way passed" what a golf cart was designed for anyway! Happy carting. |

Your question is? This is the one I drive mostly. |

My cart has an analog speedometer which shows my top speed to be about 19.5 MPH. I was being tailgated and passed so much that I decided to check it by using my handheld GPS. The GPS showed my max speed was right at 20 MPH. I travel on Morse Blvd. every day to check the mail, and have been pleasantly surprised to see a sheriff's deputy there twice this week with a radar gun. I was also pleasantly surprised to see a relatively young golf cart driver getting a ticket on Morse on Tuesday. I'm not sorry for the pleasure I'm getting from the sheriff enforcing the law, and I hope they continue.

I am riding down bueno vista multi trail at about 18 MPH. Saw a cart closing real fast, so I kicked mine up to 25 MPH. The guy went by me like I was parked. For me I enjoy the ride between 15 and 20 MPH.
