Publix or Walgreens Pharmacy??

Would like an opinion on which pharmacy that most of you use or think is the best Walgreen's or Publix?

Walgreen's always seems like they have long lines to drop off and pick up prescriptions and the pharmacists and people waiting on the counter seem overwhelmed.
Publix seems much larger and there never seems to be big lines to pick up or drop off prescriptions.
Would like to get some opinions on both of them so we can chose where to have our prescriptions up north transferred from.
Thanks TOTV!

Avista 10-21-2013 05:10 PM

We use Publix and are mostly pleased.

gomoho 10-21-2013 05:35 PM

We use Sams - suggest you price the prescriptions at different pharmacies to see who has the best price.

Publix has shorter lines because they sell exponentially fewer drugs. Walgreens and CVS offer the convenience of some 24-hour locations as well as availability all over the country, which, of course Publix cannot. You may find that having more than one prescription drug provider may make sense in both convenience options as well as cost.

We've been using Walgreen's but because of the insurance changes for next year we're shopping around. Sam's seems to have some good prices for the meds we take. We'd gone with Walgreen's due to it being a national company so when we traveled we had access to our items. But Sam's would be similar I would think, in that way.

villager 10-21-2013 06:40 PM

Used to us Walgreens, but every time I would go, they would give me absolutely horrible customer service. I always felt like I was interrupting them by giving them by business or by wanting to ask a question. Now use Publix. They make me feel welcomed and are always willing to answer any questions. In fact, they always ask me if I have any questions.

N44125 10-21-2013 06:44 PM

We use Walmart on 466. Service and price are great. Although I have not used, they will mail your prescriptions at no cost.

Deter1 10-21-2013 07:58 PM

I have used Walgreens because we travel. Just found out that Publix provides some antibiotics at 0 $ where Walgreens always charges for this type of script, ie amoxicillen. I shop Publix, so might switch over once I do some more price checking, but definitely will use them for antibiotics

Check out this Walgreen's list of drugs with prices to see if the medications you take are on it.

Here's the list for Publix. 90 day supply for $9

I used both Publix and Walgreens in Colony Plaza and was very dissatisfied with both. Walgreens had a clerk in there who always looked like she was a "deer in headlights". I spoke to the Pharmacist and told him of my displeasure but nothing was done about it. Publix didn't fill an antiobiotic prescription in a timely manner and never notified me of a delay.

I have been using the Walgreens on Rolling Acres in Lady Lake and love them. Their drive up window is handled very expediently and the pharmacist is a dream come true. He has been very on top of all my drugs and has literally called a doctor on the fact that an interaction with one of my existing drugs, would not be good. He's also always there to answer questions for me. I have sent a few people there and they are very happy as well.

justjim 10-21-2013 09:29 PM

Walgreens vs. Publix as a Pharmacy: Walgreens is national so I would go with them and they can fill my prescription while on vacation up north in summer. Publix main business is grocery---Walgreens is pharmacy. Need I say more?

Each location may have a "better or worse" pharmacist with personality but that is not the important reason to choose a Pharmacy.

Target may be another alternative to either and they are a national chain.

SALYBOW 10-21-2013 09:45 PM

Have been using Walgreens but...

Since I have hit the donut hole I am doing a bit of research on pricing of drugs. One drug I take is 4,00 at Sam's Target and Walmart but 10,999 at Walgreens. I am doing the Math,

Because of my health issues and the meds I need to take...I'm doing my homework already for next year as to the best pharmacy to take my RX's. For the same reason this "quoted" response.

Does anyone know if going the Canadian Pharmacy route is a more economical route to take???

jebartle 10-22-2013 02:48 AM

Another option is Winn Dixie

There price is $8.00 for 90 day supply....Initial cost of $5.00, which you get back in coupon for groceries when you have a Winn Dixie card

We use Sam's. I also check out Costco on every prescription too. I never tell anybody my insurance info until they tell me the price. Many times, especially with Costco, the prices are cheaper than my $10.00 copay if I buy a 90 day supply. Sometimes, even with a 30 day supply.

mfp509 10-22-2013 07:49 AM

I vote for Publix - have used Walgreen's and CVS and had so many problems. Never a problem at Publix.

aussiemom 10-22-2013 08:34 AM

Have always used Walgreens but changed everything over to Publix within the last couple months. Walgreens is out of a drug half the time, forgets to refill even though on auto-refill and not the friendliest staff. Went to Publix and found that 2 of my meds that I was getting 90 day supplies at Walgreens and costing me, if I went to 30 day supply it was free at Publix. Plus any of my antibiotics are free at Publix but not at Walgreens. Someone mentioned Walgreens is 24 hour service...............but those Walgreens are limited and may not be the Walgreens you use. Plus the Walgreens may be 24 hours, but the pharmacy isn't.

BobAllen1290 10-22-2013 08:50 AM

Everyone has a different experience, but I would vote for Walgreen's over Publix. If you don't go at the peak hours of 10a-4p the lines are not so bad, in fact I am often the only one of a couple of people there in the off hours. I've had 2 experiences with Publix on 441 and both times it was like they couldn't find their butt with both hands and a flashlight. Stopped going. Other Publix pharmacies might be great, but the one convenient to me is most definitely NOT convenient.

2BNTV 10-22-2013 09:53 AM

Walgreens computers are linked to each other so can go go to any one them to have a prescription filled.

We all have to do our homework with all the new medical plans out there and what each medications they have on their formulary.

Avista 10-22-2013 10:25 AM

I might go to Walgreens if they had a Blood Pressure machine.. Kind of ticks me off they don't have this.

This is way better than the BP machines at the drug stores and far more practical.

That looks like a nice one, and not too expensive. Used to,have one that never worked right. I may get the one you pictured.

JC and John 10-22-2013 02:43 PM

I vote for CVS. Have had no problems with them. Hubby always had some issue with his meds being filled at Walgreens back in Virginia. I have had issues with Walgreens at Colony never having my meds in stock and having to wait till they got them from Orlando or sometimes they failed to notify me they didn't have the meds and could not get a specific brand from the manufacturer. It was a med I had taken for many years before I moved to FL. Granted Walgreens can't make a manufacturer continue to make the stuff but they failed to tell me about it and did not offer to advise me or my doc what an alternative would be. Hubby and I use CVS now and since our insurance carrier uses CVS mail order pharmacy or retail store it is even better for us. Try Publix, if you don't like it, switch. Good Luck!

patfla06 10-22-2013 02:45 PM

Publix!

patfla06 10-22-2013 02:48 PM

p.s. My G.P. in Tampa has a sign up in his office stating
NOT to use Walgreen's Pharmacy because of so many
problems with prescriptions! FYI.

logdog 10-22-2013 02:54 PM

I'm a big fan of The Medicine Chest in LSL. It's more like a small town pharmacy where you can talk to the pharmacist if you have any questions. They also take the time to find you cheaper generics which the big stores often won't do.

manaboutown 10-22-2013 04:15 PM

In my experience Costco usually offers the lowest prices.

BeetleBailey 10-23-2013 08:43 PM

We have used both and found Publix to be much better.

:agree:

Wal-Mart on 466....the staff is very nice, cheerful and accomodating.

Like being able to call in refills 24/7..up to 5 days early without any problems.
Can choose.... extra-super fast pickup...
..............................super-fast pickup ...
...................................or just tomorrow.

PLUS if you need a RENEWAL on script....THEY call the DOC and get the
renewal for you.........the ease of using this Pharmacy is truly refreshing.

PLUS.PLUS...they call you and leave message when scripts are ready,
..................and tell you your total cost at pick-up.
You can opt-out of the call..if you do not wish for ringing phones at 9:10 a.m.
They must have night staff or something...their speed of fill is remarkable.

AND...if you do not need a seperate receipt from Pharmacy...
.......they allow you to pay at checkouts, if you are also shopping that day.

Not only all that...for those who are trying to do 3 days work in one day....
...they offer a speed pay lane...(you sign up in advance for this)...
you do not even have to wait in the regular line. Great for working moms, etc.

You can also use their Drive-thru at extreme West end of their parking lot.
You wait in the Queue just the same as you were in the store line.
Extremely nice for those with limited mobility..or a bucket full of grandkids, or just tuckered out.

I use the regular line and NEVER waited more than 4 minutes in over 4 years.
