p.s.
Just downloaded it to my Kindle. Thanks again. Great reading for Halloween....... |
lived with one in college! sorority rented a house out from under a fraternity one year...when the guys found out they told us we were not gonna be happy because of the ghost...of course we said pshaw!
well - we would sometimes notice the front door would rattle followed by the door to the second floor rattling, too. later we would hear the doors rattle in the reverse. we figured it was a draft - no big deal. other times i recall standing in the kitchen and feeling a cold, cold breeze pass me when standing near the basement door - figured it was a draft - no big deal. roomie and i rearranged our bedroom one day and when settled into bed that nite - every picture and anything else hung on the wall fell OFF - all at the same time! we said aloud, 'sorry', went to sleep and rehung the stuff the next day. thought we must be lousy decorators - no big deal. the big deal came the evening my date and i returned to the house with take-out and had just sat down at the small table/benches in the nook/butler's pantry between kitchen and dining room. we each heard firm footsteps on what we thought was the roof but probably the 2nd floor. WELL! the two of us - at the same time - LEAPED from the benches, flew thru the dining room and were out the front door before you could holler ghost! we rode around for what seemed hours and my dated finally returned to the house - pulled up dead even with the front door and told me he would call me tomorrow! like he**, i said! he did come in and did a boogie man check and left after the coast seemed clear. well - the guys were right - there was a ghost! came to find out that a one-time local councilman hung himself from the 2nd fl landing due to some town scandal he was involved it! it had to have been basil! |
On the eve of Halloween, who believes in ghosts ?
I do.... |
I see dead people
|
No, don't worry about the dead people, it's the live ones you have to watch..
|
Nope.

That was quite an experience. An unsettled spirit and unsettling experience for sure. I've seen and felt my share of ghostly apparitions.....but all of mine were friendly ghosts.......just momentarily "passing by" soon after their death....................like saying goodbye. All long stories which I've probably mentioned before. Only one had harsh "energy" but she had died an untimely death and wasn't ready to depart.....or leave her young children. But, I've never had an experience like yours..........enjoyed hearing about it. I used to have a whole slew of books written about popular ghosts seen in and around the Maine seacoast.........like Haunted New England........ They were all too factual to be made up..........and many people, like yourself, had experienced them............. We all have spirit form. When it leaves the body, sensitive folks can "feel" it or "see" it. Truth is stranger than fiction. But, as another poster said, and as my mom always said (and my grandmothers) "Only the living can hurt you". |
LOL. Ghosts? I hope I don,t see anyone I know say yes to this question. I gave up ghosts with my Weegee board when I was a child. I do;however, believe that being entertained with fun stuff rather than scary stuff is better for your health.

Both are good (fun stuff and scary stuff).......but this is Halloween after all.... My last , or should I say, memorable attempt at the Ouija board was back when we were 19 years old. All of our friends, including us, were engaged to be married........(the olden days)........I was at my girlfriend Kathy's house, planning her upcoming wedding, while the guys (our fiance's) were supposedly going out bowling......... Both of us were going to be in her upcoming wedding....... Just a long string of weddings among our group......everyone married young back then, at about 20. They were planning to be back before 9 p.m........but when they didn't show, we began wondering. She took out her Ouija board to pass the time and for some laughs. She was a good Catholic girl by the way. Neither of us "fixed" the message or anything......we just followed the implement on the board.......which our fingers were resting on. It spelled out PONDEROSA. Well, we both knew there was a show with that name on television. But it made no sense ........................yet. Then, it spelled out some other pertinent things that surprised the both of us. Long story short, when the guys returned home, they told us that they were really hungry while bowling and decided to stop by THE PONDEROSA RESTAURANT on route 46 (I think it was) in N.J. for a steak, baked potato, etc..........and forgot the time. They weren't that late. The Ouija board was right. I think Ponderosa was a new restaurant back then. All we could relate it to was the television show........ |
There was no TV show called Ponderosa. It was called Bonanza. Topless bar has a few of the same letters.
|
Quote:
Just the show......"BONANZA" as you corrected. Before, I was going to mention Little Joe Cartwright, etc. and Hoss, etc. Like I say, it was a long long time ago......but we near fell off our chairs when they walked in the door and said they had a late dinner at the PONDEROSA. Believe me, it was not us spelling out PONDEROSA. It was so accurate, plus a lot of other things it came up with. P.S. There were no topless bars in N.J. back then and these two 19 year old good Catholic boys would not have been allowed in a bar in 1964. We never drank either, as the drinking age was 21. We dated from age 17 till we married at 20. Still couldn't legally drink. Times were different back then. A week or so later, we all had dinner out at THE PONDEROSA.......... |
Haunted gettysburg tours
Welcome to Haunted Gettysburg Tours - The Premier Ghost Walk.
Haunted Gettysburg Tours This is one ghost tour I would LOVE to go on..... The last time we toured Gettysburg Battlefield, etc. was about 46 years ago, while living in New Jersey. Many other battlefields are also "haunted" by "ghosts" who died untimely deaths.......... |
Are spirits real?
Quote:
I'm enjoying that book that I downloaded last evening.........I began it immediately........saving the rest for tonight when we're waiting in the living room for the little trick or treater's to go door to door.......since it's going to be a showery evening........it might be a long wait between "customers".... Here is something else I just read........... ""Are spirits real? Is there any "proof" that ghosts and apparitions are NOT products of an over active imagination or wishful thinking? Is there really an afterlife, or is that something we tell ourselves to feel better? In this article we are going to take a quick and easy look at some of the best PROOF that paranormal experiences are real, and the implications they have for those of us who remain in the living as well. Care to know more? Continue reading as we take a closer look below!"" ""The TYPES of actual evidence is OVERWHELMING"" ""If ghost stories were ONLY the types you see on TV...it would be easy to write them off as entertainment, or imagination. But the truth is, there are so many different types of experiences with apparitions, and the "afterlife" that it's impossible to explain them as simple tricks of the brain."" ""There are literally MILLIONS of events like the ones listed below each and every year, and they all point to the same reality. (which IS, that this reality is NOT all there is!)"" ''After Death Communications : Crisis Apparitions (Spirits who appear to people many miles away at the moment of their death)"" ""Death bed visions : Near Death experiences (where deceased family and friends are seen)"" ""And of course, there are MEDIUM readings where information comes through that's impossible to explain away through conventional means, even if the skeptics, and debunkers want you to BELIEVE that the readings are simply good guesses, luck or outright cheating."" ""And remember, when you REALLY start to look at the whole spectrum of super natural experiences, you really start to see how many of them there are, and they ALL point to that very same place. "" Out of body experiences Remote viewing Psychic abilities Past life memories (especially those in small children that are later proven to be true) ""The truth is, there is way too much to list here. And they all seem to suggest that THIS reality is only a fraction of the spectrum of our spiritual awareness. And that MAYBE our authentic selves are really spiritual beings, trapped in the limiting confines of a physical body for a fixed period of time...and when that body disappears, what REMAINS is our spiritual selves."" ""(and that THIS self is who you really are...and what endures and persists AFTER death, and quite possibly, lives on forever!)"" All very interesting to ponder on a rainy chilly dark Halloween night. |

For the most part. |
I have had only one minor experience that could have been a ghost. And yes it was very possible. Growing up we lived in a house that was a former funeral parlor. Everyone in town told us the house had ghosts. Never believed it. One day my mom and I were sitting in the living room reading and the house was dead quiet. We heard footsteps walking across the second floor. Came out of the front bedroom, down a long hall, through parents and then my room and into the attic. Clear as anything it was a person walking. My mom, not believing in ghosts looked at me and said had to be the dog. We went back to reading and then at about the same moment, looked down at the fireplace hearth and there was the dog sound asleep. We both had a sudden chill, but didn't say anything.
Still have my doubts, but have had three people who's word and integrity is beyond question tell me their personal ghost story experience. And one has been repeated by many many others to this day. There is a place along a highway in NH where one of the three happened. Has to do with the ghost of an old women walking along the road. This happen to my dad when he was 18. So about 1920 or so. Today there is a restaurant right beside the road there. I was in there for breakfast a few years ago and the place was empty. I didn't know the owner at all, but this older guy was behind the counter so I thought I would just check out the story. I told him "I was driving up the road a few years ago and saw someone walking by the road. As I got near and passed her she disappeared right in front of the car. I jammed on the brakes and went back and looked to see if I hit her or something but no one was there" So I asked if there was ever a report of someone being hit or something right there? He just looked at me and said "so you have seen her to" He told me he has seen her at least 20 times and knows several others who have as well. He went on to describe her exactly as my dad had told me probably 50 years prior. So I am still not a true believer, but I do believe there is something we can't define out there. |
Speaking of ghosts (I don't mean to divert the thread, but I didn't feel my question warranted a new one), will there be any ghosts (trick-or-treaters) coming to our doors tonight? It's our first Halloween as residents. :^)

I do believe in ghosts, I do, I do, I Do!:(

I am a ghost!
If you don't think I'm a ghost, just ask yourself if you have ever seen me. No, you haven't. Why do you think I never show up a Crispers? :icon_twisted::eek:
Here's a true story: After my father died, I sometimes would work in a 15' X 15' workshop that we built together. One day while working at the workbench, I picked up his scent. It was a unique scent that he had while at work in his work clothes, not good or bad but just unique. Most days I couldn't detect it at all but every once in a while it was there. I just couldn't figure out any way to explain it. So, if it was his ghost, I guess that explains why I am a ghost. It might be genetic. |

There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio

WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE.........( HAMLET ) "THERE ARE MORE THINGS IN HEAVEN AND EARTH, HORATIO, THAN ARE DREAMT OF IN YOUR PHILOSOPHY......." Hamlet: Swear by my sword Never to speak of this that you have heard. Ghost: [Beneath] Swear by his sword. Hamlet: Well said, old mole, canst work i' th' earth so fast? A worthy pioner! Once more remove, good friends. Horatio: O day and night, but this is wondrous strange! Hamlet: And therefore as a stranger give it welcome. There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy. |

Repeated , in part, from my above post. No, it does not make sense. Deep?? Perhaps a good "suspicion" on Doug's part, but not what happened in 1964. They went bowling and then stopped to have a steak dinner at the Ponderosa Restaurant. Scout's honor. Ouija board was right on target. Even if the Ponderosa was a topless bar, which it was not, Ouija still would be correct. Doug has the wrong generation. There were no topless bars in N.J. back then and these two 19 year old good Catholic boys would not have been allowed in a bar in 1964. We never drank either, as the drinking age was 21. We dated from age 17 till we married at 20. Still couldn't legally drink. Times were different back then. |
I notice a connection between belief in ghosts and other conspiracies. Ho ho hum so typical.

It is also called clairscent; please see my original answer above this. CLAIRSCENT Clairscent (clear smelling) – To smell a fragrance/odor of substance or food which is not in one's surroundings. These odors are perceived without the aid of the physical nose and beyond the limitations of ordinary time and space. CLAIR SENSES This collective word phrase includes any or all types of psychic sensitivity corresponding to the senses: seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling, tasting, touching. Clair Senses in psychic terms are translated: clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, clairscent, clairtangency, and clairgustance. CLAIRVOYANCE Clairvoyant (clear vision) -- To reach into another vibrational frequency and visually perceive "within the mind's eye" something existing in that realm. A clairvoyant is one who receives extrasensory impressions, and symbols in the form of "inner sight" or mental images which are perceived without the aid of the physical eyes and beyond the limitations of ordinary time and space. These impressions are more easily perceived in an alpha state and during meditation, though many clairvoyants can obtain visual information regarding the past, present and future in a variety of environments. CLAIRAUDIENCE Clairaudience (clear audio /hearing) -- To perceive sounds or words and extrasensory noise, from sources broadcast from spiritual or ethereal realm, in the form of "inner ear" or mental tone which are perceived without the aid of the physical ear and beyond the limitations of ordinary time and space. These tones and vibrations are more easily perceived in an alpha state and during meditation, though many clairaudients can obtain verbal and sound-related information regarding the past, present and future in a variety of environments. CLAIRSENTIENCE Clairsentience (clear sensation or feeling) - To perceive information by a "feeling" within the whole body, without any outer stimuli related to the feeling or information. (Also see clairempathy) CLAIRSCENT Clairscent (clear smelling) – To smell a fragrance/odor of substance or food which is not in one's surroundings. These odors are perceived without the aid of the physical nose and beyond the limitations of ordinary time and space. CLAIRTANGENCY Clairtangency (clear touching) -- More commonly known as psychometry. To handle an object or touch an area and perceive through the palms of one's hands information about the article or its owner or history that was not previously known by the clairtangent. CLAIRGUSTANCE Clairgustance (clear tasting) -- To taste a substance without putting anything in one's mouth. It is claimed that those who possess this ability are able to perceive the essence of a substance from the spiritual or ethereal realms through taste. CLAIREMPATHY Clairempathy (clear emotion) – An Empath is a person who can psychically tune in to the emotional experience of a person, place or animal. Clairempathy is a type of telepathy to sense or feel within one's self, the attitude, emotion or ailment of another person or entity. Empaths tune into the vibrations and "feel" the tones of the aura. |

I will bet many wrong doers just deny things they have done by implying that the victim was too unimportant a target for them to bother with violating their rights. There is a very telling story about abuse of power and people getting away with it from the news last night on ABC on October 30 with George Stephanopoulos. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Stephanopoulos Check out the story about black lung disease among miners and the doctor who looks like he was paid to basically just do the coal company's bidding. http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/invest...ry?id=20721430 There certainly is a conspiracy involved in this matter if you look at the facts presented. Back to ghosts, I do hope that this doctor is haunted by some from the patients with black lung disease who subsequently died probably so that he could cash in a huge pay check by ignoring their conditions. How does he get away with this? Because he has an inordinately more amount of influence, money and power that than of his victims. |
Yes, I believe in ghost. Shortly after my husbands mother died we would be sitting in the living room and would hear a cabinet opening and closing in the kitchen. At first we had no clue what was going on.
The last few years of Toms mothers life all she ate was Lays potato chips so we think she was going in the cabinet where I kept the chips. I stopped buying chips for a few weeks and did not hear any sounds coming from the kitchen. I finally bought more chips and sure enough she started going back in that cabinet. This went on for about three months and then suddenly stopped. We think it was her way of letting us know she had made it to the other side. Now, I am not crazy but after my mother died she called and left a message on her answering machine. I still have that message and will never delete it. I asked her before she died if there was anyway to contact me, to do so. When I heard that message the hairs on my arms raised and chills throughout my body. It was eerie to say the least. Yes, yes, yes, I believe in ghost. |
I've always enjoyed hearing other people's stories and always thankfull they share their stories. I like to explore things I don't fully understand.
