Finally, It has been down for 5-6 weeks. The only way I can get my villages daily fix is to look at these cams. I have been emailing them every week asking about the "technical difficulty".

I just tried it and got the following message. Any idea why?

"The ActiveX Camera Control, which enables you to view live image streams in Microsoft Internet Explorer, could not be registered on your computer".

Are there other web cams? What are the URLs?

Re: Lake Sumter Web cam is back

You must have Active X blocked. Go to tools/options and turn on Active X if you wish.

Thanks for the info, I was wondering if we were ever going to get it back.

Re: Lake Sumter Web cam is back

It may not be that your activex controls are blocked. If you haven't used this new camera before you actually have to download new software. This new software takes pictures much faster and gives the viewer less of the jerky motion than the old software.

When you get that message see if your popup blocker is highlighted at the top of your screen. If it is click on that area and it will ask you if you want to download the activx control. Say yes and it will automatically download. Once the download is complete you should be able to view the picture. If you didn't know, they also have a camera in Spanish Springs. It is located on top of the building that used to house the Italian restaurant.

When we were down last time we had a conversation with our kids while they were on the net. They could see us moving and watch the goings on also.

Re: Lake Sumter Web cam is back

Enabling ActiveX didn't help. I disabled it and tried your suggestion Larry and it downloaded the ActiveX program. It's now working. Should I be concerned about having ActiveX loaded? There were several internet warnings popping up while I went through the process.

larrydube 08-28-2007 03:02 PM

Re: Lake Sumter Web cam is back

Hey Russ,

Not really. This is a software program that they now use so you get the smoother flow. Watch the cam in Sumter around 5PM when people are there for the 2 for 1 oops I mean for the nightly entertainment. They move in a much smoother manner. You have ActiveX controls already running. When you used this to respond to me some of the characters are moving and the <-M button is moving. The reason they are doing this is because ActiveX controls are built into this webpage.

On another note are you from the Boston area?

I live in Norton MA. I hope to be down in TV before TOO long but it will still be a couple of years at best.

I think you are right about not being Active X. My bad but i'm glad it's working for everyone now.

I had no issues so i wasn't sure.

Re: Lake Sumter Web cam is back

I got the same message that ActivX Camera Control couldn't be registered on my computer ... I'm glad someone else had the same problem and asked for help! I followed the instructions (thank you, thank you) and down loaded ActivX Control .... but there is no sound!! Is there supposed to be sound? I thought there would be music and laughter and rocking on!!

Oh, I just noticed, it is after midnight, could that be why? Or do I have do something to turn on sound?

Thanks all you computer wizards.

Russ_Boston 08-29-2007 07:22 AM

Re: Lake Sumter Web cam is back

I don't think there is any sound with those webcams.

larrydube 08-29-2007 08:20 AM

Re: Lake Sumter Web cam is back

Barefoot,

Russ is correct. There is no sound.

When we were down there in April with some friends, we called her son on her cell phone and had him get on the site so he could talk to her and see what we were doing. Kind of a cheap way to have your kids and relatives actually see that you are enjoying yourself. It is also a great way to show your friends what they are missing...... (make em jealous).....

Thanks! It worked! :) It was good to see all the palm trees! We'll be moving there in March, but plan to visit, again, in December and, hopefully, find our house. We signed our purchase agreement, yesterday, and the closing will be in a couple months. Woo Hoo!

Thanks, Donna! I'll be the one dancing up a storm! I want to look at the web cam this evening to see if there's anyone out there dancing in the heat! Right now, it's pretty deserted. But, I feel a little like a spy...it's weird!

larrydube 08-29-2007 03:09 PM

Re: Lake Sumter Web cam is back

You can zoom in, but you cannot move the camera. If you look at the one in Spanish Springs, they have it looking at the Rialto. They actually have to send someone up and move them manually. The zoom will make the picture get more out of focus. as you are not really zooming the camera but the picture on your screen. On the lower right corner of the picture you will see something that says 100%. Click on this and it will zoom in to 125% and so on....

Donna 08-29-2007 04:57 PM

Re: Lake Sumter Web cam is back

I can't zoom either... :realmad:

I can't help it but the prankster on my shoulder is whispering in my ear......nope scratch that.....SHOUTING in my ear. Who's got the nerve to make a sign with TOTV in BIG LETTERS.....and display that in front of the webcam at Sumter. Hummmm? Maybe do a little dance.....ohhhhh the possibilities.....

larrydube 08-29-2007 06:43 PM

Re: Lake Sumter Web cam is back

Donna and oshun....

look at my post just before oshun's post. on the lower right side it should say 100%. left click on this area and it will make the picture bigger.... not a real zoom but it will amplify the picture by first 125% and if you click again by 150%. if you click a 3rd time it goes back to 100%... good luck

Larry---- 767 days to go 4 hours 14 minutes... but who is counting ;D  :2cool: :hot:

They changed the view on the Lake Sumpter camera away from the square but moved the Spanish Springs one to the square. ???

I know it is 8:00 at night but they are both so dark!! I will have to try it in the day time.

That lower right hand corner mentioned by larrydube is part of Internet Explorer 7. I finally found it.

Thanks larrydube.

I do not know of any others. They will probably get one for the new 3rd square whenever that is done. I heard around 2010?

Russ, thanks so much for alerting us to the fact that there are cameras .. I didn't know. Sure wish it had sound, guess that's getting greedy. Can always play 60s music when I watch it. Now we will all lurk at home in the dark and cold, watching people at TV having fun. And then, before long, it will be our turn!!! Can hardly wait!! ;D

You can see how long the line is at the Rialto movie theater from the Spanish Springs web-cam. The Rialto is the building with the marquee which is just left of the Church on the Square. That is during the day though. Could not make much out at night. You get the sunset too from the Spanish Springs web-cam.

We could make big Ts and a V with people? The O would be a bit difficult? Do need a gymnast or at least someone rather in shape for the V. I suppose two very flexible people could make an "O".

Barefoot 09-03-2007 02:39 PM

Re: Lake Sumter Web cam is back

Taltarzac: I'll volunteer for the T if you can wait until October 26!! Altho I'm short, if you want a tall T I'll volunteer my husband. You might be hard pressed to find anyone flexible enough for the O .... Perhaps you can use one of the tires that Bam is painting white for use as a lawn ornament.

We would probably have to do this more than once because you never know when anyone is looking at that web-cam.

Reminds me of that Survivor where they had to get the attention of a plane by spelling out S.O.S. There are a lot of possibilities here as JohnZ pointed out in a previous post.

Re: Lake Sumter Web cam is back

The Spanish Springs web-cam looks like it is coming from a camera just above the Sevilla lettering on one of the corner buildings? Walked around that Square today with a yellow bandage on my left arm after donating blood at Florida's Blood Centers. Got a free Firehouse Sub for doing this. That's quite a meatball sub.

I will have to check and see if I can spot the Sumter Landing camera.

larrydube 09-04-2007 04:02 PM

Re: Lake Sumter Web cam is back

If you put the camera in Sumter at your back, and look up you will see it almost at the top of the building.

My wife says I am addicted to the villages. I have the TOTV short cut and the web cam shortcuts and am on here every day after work. a wishing and a dreaming that I was there with you all. Those web cams get dark and lonely fairly early.

The angle of both Lake Sumter and Spanish Springs' web-cams changed. Now, it seems to be going straight out rather than tilted to the right as it had the last day I looked at it-- September 5, 2007.
