Here I am talking about the Villas etc and all of a sudden our sales lady called us today...Gave us a good deal and we have a contract on a Designer Jasmine, site unseen and closed on our home at the same time. We are homeless and a bit nervous. Hey Kar Guy- We are neighbors--- Duval!!! Help me Rhonda!!!!

So technically you were never homeless, good for you DD, so it looks like you don't need the preview. I thought you were set on buying a villa. We also have a Jasmine, we have really enjoyed it, didn't buy sight unseen but we did close by mail which was different.

So you have a Jasmine????? How did you handle the dark LR? I didn't realize that would be a problem. Oh- Got a good deal AND a walk in shower!!! How long have you been in your home???? You know, give me the scoop!!!!

We bought in January 2005. As for the dark LR we had a large solar tube put in near the kitchen sink, it lights up not only the middle of the kitchen quite nicely (on a Sunny day you need to wear sunglasses* 8) in the kitchen) but also throws light into the dining room, we also put a small tube in the guest bath which lights up both the bath and hallway. I never really thought that the LR was all that dark, we have the stacking sliding door walls to the lanai, what do you have??

Darby...congrats to you; I certainly hope your realtor took and sent you lots of pictures (of the house, lot, views, floors, carpet, cabinets, neighborhood, etc) and gave you the full spec sheet on what comes with the house so that you have at least a 'virtual' picture of what you're getting into.

Are you still coming down next week to do the 'preview'...or in your case a 'post'view.

I'm so happy for you, Darby!! :) We looked in Duval back in June and it seems to be a nice location. It will probably be all filled up when we're ready to buy in December. That's great that you're all set!! Wishing you all the best in your new home!

DD, I've been too busy lately at work to contribute to TOTV but now you've got the usual decisions to make about furniture shopping. Most people who have shopped for furniture I think would agree that Southern Lifestyles in TV is no more expensive than the other furniture stores in Ocala. Keep in mind if you haven't shopped Southern Lifestyles that the store in Spanish Springs has different furniture than LSL. They try for the most part not to duplicate the furniture on display. You'll also get a 5 percent discount at SL as a Village resident. Good luck, your enthusiasm is infectious.

I hope we will be making a similar post the middle of next month. Not sight unseen however. You are very adventurous and we are envious. Two born and bred Yankkes just can't get up the gumption to do it your way. No matter we will still be bona fide Villagers real soon.

Hey Guys!!!

Thanks for all your well wishes.

LOVE THE SOLAR TUBE!!! Golf nut- don't know what kind of doors or really anything much at this point. We have the 15 page contract that we signed that brakes down the details but I have to either go to law school or become a general contractor to read it!!!!

:edit: yes this is scary!! No one in there right mind would buy something this important "over the internet". But then, who said we were in our right minds!!! We knew the Jasmine inside and out because of previous visits to TV and always wished we could afford Cherry Wood cabinets, walk-in showers, block construction etc. And when we saw the Jasmine start to climb out of our price range .........well, we turned our attention to the Villas and Ranch's. And after all of the warm feelings a lot of you have for your Villas, I will never look at one the same again. That was our choice before we got "the call."

Yup, we will still be going down next Wednesday. And yup, we will be wearing our Bronco hats so that we can meet some of you wonderful people that I have gotten quite fond of over the Internet!! (Karen, thanks for the call- Loved talking to you...Sorry I was so rushed!)

So happy for you. Sadly, you will be a distance from us in Tall Trees but I do hope one day that we can all get together at Sumter Landing and meet in person. Now, from the view posted of the kitchen with the solar light, I don't think that living room was dark ever. I think if you stay away from a dark paint, it will remain nice and light and bright.

Haven't seen a Jasmine but I am sure you will LOVE it. Some of our friends are in Designers and they are lovely. I never thought to ask what model?????!!!!!!

DD ... Welcome to the Village of Duval! You too, Bama, and all other new neighbors. I think you'll find you made a good choice with Duval. The people are great and I think the location is excellent. It's very convenient to the new Colony Plaza shopping area, Colony Cottage Regional Rec Center, the soon to open Truman Rec Center, Havana Golf Course, four executive courses, Leesburg, I-75, the turnpike, and, of course, all the new Villages expansion yet to come. Persimmon Loop and Day Lily Run are literally right around the corner. Since we moved here in March I watched all those new designer homes be built.

If I can assist in any way as you settle into the Villages lifestyle, give me a shout. I'd be glad to help. We have a Solatube (installed by The Solar Guys) if you'd like to see one. I also had them in our house in Wisconsin and think they're great!

By the way, Cayce looks forward to meeting her distant cousins Darby and Duffy! Have a safe trip next week. Look forward to meeting you.

I know our dogs are relatives. I remember reading about Darby and Duffy in a previous post. I just figured they were cousins, at least with your Cairn.

English - I would never say "Go Vikings" to you!! That would be like saying "Go Raiders" lol

Kar Guy- We had already fallen in love with the Jasmine but it was already out of our price range. Then our sales lady called and said there were two on the market that had been discounted. One on Persimmons Loop and the other on Gum (something) It was listed on the TV site for $216,000 which she said was already discounted. I had seen other new Jasmine for anywhere from $226,000 up to $260,000. Still I thought $216 was just a little out of our range. She checked and came back with either a $209,000 price or $26,000 credit at Southern Lifestyles. We took the $209,000.

Where we are now, we do not have a backyard although we do let them out throughout the day to run up and down the common area. Darby is really old (the westie) so all he wants to do is go to the closest tree, lift his leg and come inside. Duffy likes to run around for a few min. before coming inside. Duffy is out approx. 3 min. tops so you see, they are not outdoor dogs. We don't know what we'll do with that part, but we will be good neighbors, that I guarantee!! We walk them once in the morning and once at night to do their other business but ALWAYS pick up. We'll try to get them to go in our yard before we take them for their walk. Darby doesn't walk very far so we go to the end of the block with him and then back. Duffy we'll walk.

I think the only thing (I hope) that is a negative about the new home is that it faces East and West. (I heard that was bad, right?) Lanai faces West I think... ???

There is a new financial center going in (or is it already in??) that won't be far from the house and I was kinda worried about that, but the sales lady said we were far enough away so that it shouldn't be a bother.

Hey Duval.....Anything else we should know??? We are on Persimmon Loop.

We will be seeing our home for the first time Sept 5th. (That's scary) We will probably be tooling around the area on a golf cart to check things out the most of the time we're there so Duval... Don't think we are "casing the joint" and turn us in!! ;D :cop:

We will be arriving in TV on the 25th of Sept. Getting a room at the Holiday Inn or some place like that for one night and then close on the 26th. Our movers will be there on the 27th.

I am going to go on the Duval sight now and check in with our new neighbors.. See ya soon

Good luck on your upcoming move. Hope all goes smoothly. Don't forget to watch the Broncos on Monday Night Football this season. They have 3 Monday games and, as you know, at least one of those will show a snowstorm (not the one in San Diego, of course). The ski industry makes sure that the entire nation sees the snow falling. You'll be able to watch the games in the comfort of the Florida weather and smile knowing you've made the right decision. It's easy being a Bronco fan from afar.....I've continue to do it. And it'll always be Mile High Stadium to me not that foolish new name!

DD....I was out doing errands in the golf cart yesterday and checked out your new digs. Very nice!!! Nice size lanai, pretty neighborhood; lots of clear glass in the front door....depending on whether you vacuum/dust in the buff, you might have to do something about that. I assume your realtor has sent you photos??? If not, I snapped a couple of quick digi photos yesterday. It's a great location....no sewer plants, ultra busy roads, etc around you. You're also close enough but far enough from commercial property. Yes, the front does face mostly east and the lanai is west but you'll figure out how best to use it all. Good luck.

That was so wonderful of you. We didn't know about all that. And our sales lady did not give us any pictures. I saw the home on the TV site and printed out 1 picture of the front before they took it off the site.

Guys - If there is anyone out there still wondering if THE VILLAGES is for you...listen up!!!!! I have never met "Villages 07" nor do I know if it is a man or a women but they,she,he or it went to all the trouble to scout out our new place for us. AND TAKE PICTURES FOR US!! Congrats DD. Welcome to Duval. It's a great Village. And very close to everything now and in the futrue expansion. We are in NJ right now. Coming back for the winter on Oct. 1.
